Connectix Virtual Game Station

Here are the Playstation games (in my 50+ collection) that I've tested with CVGS so far. CVGS 1.1 and 1.2 were tested on a 300Mhz G3 Powerbook with a DVD drive. The 1.4 version is run on a 500Mhz G4 Powerbook. Unfortunately, the G4 doesn't have an ADB port, so I'm just playing by keyboard now.

Perhaps I'll order the USB version of the Kernel Productions JoyPortADB one of these days.

Two bugs I've seen in CVGS so far:

  • Can only read from slot 1 memory card
  • If you try to switch memory cards during the game, CVGS may crash when you try to save

Game TitlePlayable?ver.Comments
Ace Combat 2 Yes 1.1 Appears to run near perfectly. However, lack of analog controls makes it unbearable for me. :(
Armored Core Yes 1.1 I only played the first mission (to qualify as a Raven), but it appears Playstation perfect.
Bloody Roar Yes 1.1 Haven't played it much on CVGS, but appears to run well.
Bust A Groove No 1.1 Game loads, but the sound isn't in sync with the beat meter.
Colony Wars 2 Yes 1.1 Sound is choppy during briefing. Noticeable frame loss during game play. During land mission, terrain often disappeared.
Dead Or Alive Yes 1.1 Noticeable frame loss, but playable.
Dynasty Warriors No 1.2 Game loads, but characters move like they're immersed in molasses.
Ehrgeiz No 1.2 I haven't played this much on the PSX or VGS, but while things seem playable during practice mode, during the arcade game, things are much too jerk to be any fun.
Einhander Yes 1.1 Some slowdown when lots of objects on screen.
Evil Zone Yes 1.2 Seems to run perfectly.
Fighter Maker No 1.2 Opening menu loads, but games hangs if you select anything except for options.
Final Fantasy VII Yes 1.2 Some sound effects don't play (e.g. the swirling noise before each battle, spell casting, opening doors, etc).
Final Fantasy VIII No 1.2 Graphics and sound are ok for the most part, but status bars and menus don't display during battles.
G-Police Yes 1.1 In game sound skips sometimes. Another game I find almost impossible to play without analog control. Also, I wasn't able to save progress (which is ok, since GP provides you with passwords after you complete each level).
Guilty Gear Yes 1.1 Speed is fast and control responsive, but sometimes the sound flips out and gives you a loud warbling noise.
Loaded Yes 1.1 I ran around on the first level a bit and didn't see any problems.
Metal Gear Solid Yes 1.2 Some frame loss at certain points of the game.
Omega Boost Yes 1.2 I played through Zone 2 with keyboard controls. Completely playable, but it loses something without the dual shock. Also, since there's no way to trigger the L3 button with CVGS, you lose the 180 spin move.
Parappa the Rapper No 1.1 While the game loads and appears playable, but there seems to be a slight delay in registering button pushes....completely throwing off your timing.
Resident Evil Yes 1.1 I played as Jill and went up to the part where you fight the snake. No problems so far.
Resident Evil 2 No 1.1 Game loads and is playable...until you reach the RPD. Then it hangs.
Silent Hill No 1.2 Game loads and cinemas play, but the atmosphere is destroyed by big white rectangles surrounding Harry and various other objects. Too bad, 'cuz this is one spine-tingling, hair-raising game!
Soul Blade No 1.2 Horrendous frame loss
Space Hulk No 1.2 In-game voices are garbled so you can't understand mission briefings and what the marines are saying (which is pretty important when they die).
Star Gladiator Yes 1.1 The opening movie has a glitch, but when I went into training mode with June, the game seemed completely playable.
Tai Fu Yes 1.4 Seems to run perfectly, but I haven't played it much on VGS
Tekken 3 Yes 1.2 Some frame loss, but completely playable. No music during credits after winning game.
Tenchu Yes 1.4 Runs perfectly as near as I can tell.
Wild Arms Yes 1.4 Some times Rudy has a slight trail, but nothing that detracts from the game.
