DrillMstr's Opinion

What follows are my personal comments and opinions about the current issues facing #martial:

When all of this is resolved I plan on making these pages available to the #martial public but not quite so prominent on my web site. I feel you all have a right to know what's going on. I am sorry I could not locate previous e-mails but when I do, I will put them up.

These pages that I have put together are not intended to hurt any one in any way. Mr. McCarthey created #martial and I do feel he deserves something for that and all the work he put into it. He also sent to me another e-mail that I will not post here, not because I am trying to hide something but because he marked the subject as "Personal note..". He and I are going to do our best to work things out.

Others have also put a lot of work into the channel and our web site(s). I have great respect for the insight and dedication that Mr. McCarthey has toward improving Martial Arts. However, I do feel he is somewhat unrealistic in his desire to achieve his goals in the time-frame he has established for himself. I feel that what he wants to accomplish is going to take time and needs to be done right. If it is done as quickly as possible then the quality will suffer and it may just all fall apart at the seams.

What I want for the channel is to be a place where anyone can come and discuss Martial Arts, make friends, find answers to their Martial Arts questions, and to be a part of improving Martial Arts as a whole. I want it to be a place where rank and style are not significant except to give others an idea of who they are talking to. I want our workers to be able to answer any martial arts question or to at least be able to inform people where to find the best answer. I don't believe that the channel can maintain a 24 hour/7 day a week Martial Arts only discussion without driving itself into the ground. I enjoy the friends I've made in #martial and often I would rather cut up with them than talk Martial Arts. If the conversation turns to Martial Arts then we join in and try to contribute what we can.

Everyone in #martial needs to realize that the people they are talking to have different experiences, beliefs and backgrounds in Martial Arts and that they can learn from those differences. All I ask is for everyone to try to be open to those differences and to not attack them.

I would like this channel to be the best source for Martial Arts information on the internet. You don't have to do anything more than you already do but if you would like to help make it the best then we sure could use the help. If you have comments or suggestions for the channel we would be glad to hear them because this is your channel, the ops and I just try to take care of it.

One last thing I'd like to say is, #martial has the potential for making some good contacts and connections. If you treat people fair, honest and respectfully then maybe it will pay off down the road. I personally don't like burning bridges behind me. Also, you will get out of it, what you put into it.

Thanks for your time,

Doug Thomas (DrillMstr), #martial channel manager
