Important Information for all users of Undernet's #martial chat channel.

Brief Summary:
Richard McCarthey (a.k.a. Kyoshi, Guro, Palikero, and a few other IRC nicknames) founded the martial arts chat channel, #martial, on Undernet in February of 1996. Mr. McCarthey had big plans for the development of this chat channel and did quite a lot of work on it. He laid the foundation for what it is today. Mr. McCarthey was not happy with the progress toward his ultimate goal. He felt it was his fault and that he had shamed the channel even though his most loyal workers did not see it that way.

He decided that he must leave in shame. In approximately February of 1997 he gave up ownership of the channel to one of his workers that had been with him since April of 1996 and who had worked his way up through the ranks to the second highest position. The person he gave the channel to was Doug Thomas (a.k.a. DrillMstr).

Mr. McCarthey had not been seen until recently. He showed up in the channel under the IRC nickname of Palikero (which we had never seen before - at least not that I am aware of). I do not know if he contributed to any conversation during his two visits but he told me in an e-mail message that he logged everything in the channel for approximately 170 hours total between the two days. On Sunday 27 July 1997, I received the e-mail from him stating that he wanted the channel back under his ownership.

The pages that follow contain copies of some of the messages that was sent concerning things stated above. I am presenting them in whole so that everyone can see the plain facts and decide for themselves what they would like done with #martial. It is not complete at this time but will hopefully have as much information as possible on this subject. I have gone through a severe hard drive crash and may not personally have the all of the info at present, but I will have it up as soon as I get it and hopefully before our channel meeting on Friday 1 August 1997 at 8pm Central Daylight Time.

I am doing this so that the people of #martial can decide for themselves what the future of #martial will be. My only concern is the good of the channel. The channel does have some problems but we are willing to do our best to eliminate them. Please do not be fooled by anything that any of the involved parties have written. Read it carefully and then re-read it. I want you to decide what to believe or disbelieve.

The links below will take you through all of the available pages.

Thank you for your time and for being a part of #martial.
