Hello Doug,
The last time we talked, it wasnt on such great terms. For that I feel I
must apologize, I hate leaving things that way. I had left without a word,
and left whoever wanted it, a sinking ship. Alot of things have happened
in that last little while, both good and bad. I have made quite abit of
headway in the last few months. I have also been keeping close tabs on how
things are going on in Undernet.
I've come into the channel twice since I left, both times to log the
channel for a weekend. The first time I got about 70 hours worth, this
time I got about 100 hours worth. Needless to say, I think the channel has
slid downhill. I'm not the only one who shares that opinion. At first I
bitched alot about it. Then once I sat back and realized whats happened,
then I saw the real picture.
Doug I think the group has lost their direction. They dont seem to care
anymore. I left #martial so you guys could have the freedom you wanted to
do things how you saw fit. Altho I have been informed your still using
alot of my groundwork. Which I think is fine. Altho I think its time to
clue you in on a few things.
1. The channel ran smoother when things were handed out instead of
volunteered for.
2. The huge infrastructure is completely unneccessary, it was created to
appease certain individuals.
3. Clear cut short term goals that are not hidden from the general public
should be decided and made public.
4. Too much excess baggage is left laying around, #martial works much
better as a lean mean producing machine.
I could go on and on. Its all general common sense. People have recently
started to ask what I have been doing. Well I have continued what I had
started. Now I call the group the "Martial Society" its a non-profit
organization dedicated to educating, promoting, and hopefully improving the
quality of Martial Arts out there.
Doug alot of people have asked me to start another channel, some I dont
even know. I refused them for one simple reason. I promised you I wouldnt
compete with #martial. I always had hopes that the two groups would be
re-united sometime in the future anyhow.
Martial is my baby. No matter what name it goes by. I have spent the
last half of a decade coming to realize what it really is. Okay to put it
simply, martial is me, its my way of thinking, my way of life. When you
take a step back and watch things you'll see that over the last 2 years,
when #martial did well I was in a great mood, and things went fine. When
things werent getting done I was a raving lunatic.
Here is what I am proposing Doug. I want to come back and blow the whole
damn thing out of the water. Start from scratch, but this time we'll know
what not to do. Since people have been finding out about the society they
have been asking to come over to the society. I dont like that. As I said
earlier I had always planned to re-unite the two groups.
However this is not a power grab or anything of the sort. I still want
you close by. Even tho we dont agree on methods, I had always respected
your opinion. Toobad it took me flipping out on everyone to bring out what
your really thought of the situation. So now, knowing what we both know.
And seeing that #martial is a lame animal that needs to be put down so
another can take its place.
I want to make #martial what its supposed to be. Something useful,
something productive. I have tons of little ideas to put the workers on so
they feel useful and like they mean something. Martial is a refuge for
people who are searching for something, searching for acceptance, and
looking for something worthwhile to be a part of.
Your ops are leaving, and yes while new ones come in your old ones are
leaving thats not good Doug, I know you can see that. Without your
foundation to hold the structure upright it'll just sink into the dirt.
Your channel is continually knocked down in other channels, in the
newsgroups a couple months back people called it a #martial flophouse now.
A place where armchair critics rule.
Doug I wont kid you all of that steams me to no end. Martial stands for
integrity, knowledge, and the desire to learn. Altho I cant see that
happening in that environment, where the ops spend more time in other
channels, in queries, and in chats. I was shocked to see how clicish the
channel has become, new people are generally ignored, and the "prefered"
people get lavished in hugs and hello's and such, nothing wrong with that
as long as the new users get plenty of attention as well.
Doug we dont agree on methodology, I fear thats because I didn't trust you
guys enough. Rightfully so I have been burned several times now over the
past couple years. I think its time that I told everyone what Martial is
really about. If you think that its worth a try, that we can work a decent
solution out, I really want to get things back on track. I can easily do
it without the channel and its users. I would just rather not.
I had hoped that I created a group that would be able to grow without me
around, unfortunately I only see it existing, not changing and growing like
other living things do.
So I think this is enough for now, if your interested at all lets talk
about it. I'd like to destroy #martial "as is" and rebuild from scratch
simpler, more effective, something that says "under new management" :)
Doug I am willing to use our differences to create a better group for
everyone else. I want to come back as the top dog, I'm in a much better
state now, and I think I have a really good plan to get these guys
motivated. If you are interested, you know how to find me. I would rather
merge the two groups rather than see people leaving #martial. The society
was never meant to create sides... It was just the natural progression
from where I left off.
Altho I have seen that Lars has decided to compete with me, why that was
neccessary I won't know until I have had a chat with him too. His project
will never compete with what we have going now, I have professionals
working for me now. Alot of things have been done in a very short time...
I think you'll be impressed once you see it all in action. :)
Respectfully,
Richard
