Hamsters

You ask why I have a page on hamsters? Well, as a hamster owner, I suppose I just love them soooo much that, well, I decided to have a page dedicated to hamsters!
My hamster is a Syrian hamster, the most common type and I think is the cutest. Don't laugh, but my hamster is called Bubbles. Strange, you may think, but think what you want, I don't care (kinda).
Some people are extremely cruel to their hamsters by keeping them in a tiny little cage and then not taking them out for a walk or 2 a day. If you can, get a 3 floor cage, those are really cool. I've got one and it gives my hamster lots of room to run around, not to mention t fall down from. One of my friends hamsters broke its leg by falling off the top floor of its cage. That doesn't normally happen as all hamsters have a really thick layer of fat around their body (as long as you feed it properly) and my hamster jumped off my hand, about 1 and a half metres above the ground and nothing happened to it! (the reason it jumped off was because it was scared, as there was a strange noise occuring at the time)
If you're a real hamster maniac, you can build a hamster cage world, connecting many cages to each other with tubes and other things. This, however is very hard to clean, especially if your hamster is very messy, as some hamsters excrete all over the place. My hamster however was brought up from birth under its mother and humans and is therefore clean and very friendly towards homo sapiens but I still haven't built a huge hamster world, as I haven't the time. ("yeah sure, like you have enough time to make this homepage"-Joe's conscience) But the fact is, it costs money to keep a hamster, I, on the other hand, improvise. Instead of sawdust, I use shredded newspaper. Many people may think that this poisons the hamster if it chews the newspaper up, this doesn't happen. Always give your hamster fresh food such as carrots, cucumber, peanuts, lettuce, mange tout etc. Give it peanuts all the time as this will give your hamster the protein it needs and also the fat and energy. Also, take your hamster out of the cage as much as possible, at least once a day.

Did you know?

Hamsters in the wild run about 10 kms a night to search for food!

If you have a hamster you can e-mail me and send me any information you have on hamsters or comments about this homepage.

Well, bye hamster fans and keep those cute little rodents coming!
