Throwing techniques

Nage waza or throwing techniques are based on those of the Kito School. Nage waza are divided into two categories:

• tachi waza(standing techniques)
• sutemi waza(sacrifice techniques)

Tachi-waza

Tachi waza are sub divided into three categories:

• te waza(hand techniques)
• koshi waza(hip or waist techniques)
• ashi waza(foot techniques)

Sutemi-waza

Sutemi waza are sub divided into two categories:

• ma sutemi waza(supine or back sacrifice techniques)
• yoko sutemi waza(side sacrifice techniques)

Gokyo no Waza

The Gokyo no Waza {Five Groups of Instruction} are the first forty throws as developed by Dr. Kano. They are divided into five groups, each group includes eight representative techniques.
