Army made me grow up. I learned how to argue less and get along more with other people.
After three months of boot camp in island Pulau Tekong, I was sent to a maintenance base camp as a vehicle mechanic. The technical skills learned were useful, but meeting people from all walks of life opened my eyes.
National service may have interrupted my studies, but I came out in 1994 more determined to continue my education in the university.
