The ABC of Kizuna Yaoi Miscellaneous Manga, Anime, and Doujinshi Kizuna is the work of the Japanese artist Kodaka Kazuma. Volume 1 of the manga was first published in 1992 by Seiji Biblos Co., Ltd. As of Jan 7, 2001, a total of 7 volumes of manga have been published, so on average, there is one book released every year. Like any commercially published manga in Japan, Kizuna is serialized in a magazine, in this case a bi-monthly magazine called BeBoy Gold, and the volumes of manga published are collected from the magazine. Before Kizuna was commercialized, the author probably has done some work with the Kizuna characters in the form of doujinshi. Kizuna has also been made into 2 OVAs (Original video animation), each of about 30 minutes. These OVAs have been released in the North America, and Kizuna seems to be the first anime of the yaoi genre that was commercially released in the N. America (Yun Kouga's Earthian really doesn't count, as people still refer to Chihaya as she). As we speak, the 3rd Kizuna OVA is in the making, due to be released in March in Japan (English version? Who knows when ...). The Story Kizuna is made up of a series short stories. Each story is complete and self-contained, sometimes two short stories would make up a complete plot. These stories revolve around the life and the relationship of a couple of lovers, and are not necessarily based on any chronological order. The most featured couple in the manga is Kei and Ranmaru, they are the major players in the story and most of the plot is based on their relationship. The second couple is Masa and Kai, they also show up a lot in the manga together with Kei and Ranmaru, while a few stories are dedicated only to their past. Rather late in the series, Tashiro appears as a friend of Masa and becomes the bodyguard of Kai. Tashiro's lover is J.B. and the author has given us a glimpse of their past in a few short stories. Tashiro and J.B. probably won't be frequent players in the Kizuna series, and Masa and Kai's relationship will be more and more prominent in the future.
