Visas

Restricted entry and transit: Holders of Israeli passport will be refused admission; so will any passenger holding a passport containing (valid or expired) visa for Israel and those holding a stamp indicating an Israel-Joradn border crossing. All holder of South Korean passport, Taiwanese Passport and female nationals of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand must obtain prior approval from the Passport and Immigration Department in Syria before entering the country.

Passport: Valid passport required by all except nationals of Lebanon holding valid national ID.

Visas: Required by all except nationals of Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. In countries where Syria does not have an Embassy, citizens should apply by post to nearest country where there is a Syrian Embassy.

Cost: Single entry 34 pounds, double entry 68 pounds. These fees apply to nationals of the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia. The cost of visas for other nationals varies: consult the Embassy for further information.

Types of visas: Tourist and Business (single - valid for 3 months, Double and Multiple - valid 6 months). Transit visas are not required by those who continue their journey to a third country within 24 hours by the same or first connecting aircraft without leaving the transit area. Document for the next destination, including visas (where applicable) and tickets with confirmed onward reservations must be held.

Validity: Tourist: 3 months; Transit: 3 months; Business: 6 months. All visitors who stay more than 15 days should contact the Immigration and Passport Department.

Application to: Consulate (or Consular section at Embassy).

Application requirements: a) Completed application form. b) Passport. c) 1 Passport-size photograph. d) For business visas, company letter stating nature of business. e) For tourist visas, letter indicating the itinerary in the Middle East and stating the number of journeys into Syria. f) Fee. g) A stamped self-addressed envelope. Working gays require 3-4.

Temporary residence: Application to the Syrian Immigration Department, Damascus.
