The picture on the left (EYES ONLY DO NOT COPY) is my own drawing of Nozomi/Cure Dream. Special credit goes to Toei animation for making this series possible.
There are other Pretty Cure heroes since 2004. The first series was Pretty Cure which featured Nagisa/Natalie Misumi as Cure Black and Honoka/Hannah Yukishiro as Cure White. The first series has also been licensed by 4Kids Entertainment, but there is no full cast, or a set date for the English dubbings and what scenes will get tweaked, in order to keep the series as a family friendly program. In December 2008, Toei Animation & Canadian cable network YTV made an agreement to show all 49 episodes of the first Pretty Cure series on YTV in Canada in early 2009. This is the first time that an anime series was picked up by a TV network in North America. The second series was Pretty Cure Heart where Hikari Kujou as Shiny Luminous, teams up with Cure Black and Cure White. The third series was titled Pretty Cure Splash Star, starring Mai Mishou as Cure Egret and Saki Hyuuga as Cure Bloom.
The fourth series began in 2007 as Yes! Pretty Cure 5 and featured 49 episodes and a movie. Because of high ratings in Japan, a second series was produced entitled Yes! Pretty Cure 5 Go Go!, which began in 2008, and would feature a 48 episode series, plus one movie, which will continue right to January 25, 2009. On February 1, 2009, a new Pretty Cure series came out in Japan because of the continuing successful ratings on this anime series. It's entitled "Fresh Pretty Cure" and featuring three new super heroines named Cure Peach/Momozono Love, Cure Berry/Aono Miki and Cure Pine/Yamabuki Inori, along with Chiffon and Taart.
There will be a Pretty Cure All-Stars movie coming out on March 20, 2009 featuring all the Pretty Cure girls from the first series all teaming up together.
Pretty Cure has been used to promote their products during commercials in Japan, as well as having special Pretty Cure items at McDonald's restaurants and having Pretty Cure 5 GoGo featured for a Japanese restaurant chain called Joyfull.
Be sure to set those VCR's, DVD recorders or PVRs, as YTV airs Pretty Cure Fridays at 7:30am Eastern & Pacific and will replay the same episode later in the day at 3:30pm and the next day at 7am Eastern & Pacific. So watch Pretty Cure, because you'll be wanting to watch the show over and over again. The voice stars from this series are from the Calgary region, as the recordings were done at Blue Water Studios in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
There are many clips of Pretty Cure 5 over the past year performing from Japan, including Milky Rose, where they had great audiences when they all perform. Let's hope that a major company will license the show for North America, so the anime series can be dubbed in English and maybe get local cities to do Pretty Cure 5 live shows during the summer months. Unlike the shows in Japan, North America will take the "Cosplay" route rather than the "Kigurumi" route for live on stage performances.
