seen trough the eyes of a "Farang"

I took these pictures during several trips to Thailand between 1989 and 1995. Recently I selected the 100 favorite slides from the thousands of slides I brought home from these trips and had them burnt on a CD-ROM.
You are free to use these pictures for non-commercial purposes as long as you don't remove my copyright notice. But if you publish any of these pictures, I'd appreciate it if you at least let me know you used them.

Bangkok ()

Visit the golden temples of Bangkok, and the calm areas where Bangkok still has the flair of a small Thai village.

Travelling around

See with open eyes the beauty of this country and its friendly people.

Thailand's ancient capitals

The old ruins are still alive, and they have a very peaceful flair. Take your time and stroll though (Ayutthaya) or (Sukhothai), watch monks and Buddha statues in the tropical heat.

The North

See (Chiang Mai), the Rose of the North; see the hill tribe people in their colorful costumes, see a little boy ride on a buffalo's back.

River Kwai and Death Railway

See the famous River Kwai Bridge (remember the tune?), or have a day off and float down the river on a raft.

The Islands

Just lie on the white sand beach with us, sip a Mai Tai, watch the sunset and dream on...

The Northeast /ii-saan+/(Esarn)

This part of the country may be poor, but it is certainly rich in Khmer culture and abundant in its people's friendliness.

About me

My name is Martin Kraemer, and I live and work in Munich (The Oktoberfest City) in germany. That makes me a "Farang" by definition (Western people are usually called Farang by the Thai).
I was born in 1957 (that was the year 2500 of the buddhist era) and am a professional software developer for a large german computer firm. At home I have two computers, both have an 'X' in the name of the operating system they're running _{(No, that
is NOT Xindows)}
I know and love Thailand since 1989 and have since then been visiting the various parts of the country in 5 trips of 5 week each. Pattaya, however, has never been the target of my trips, and indeed did I never set my foot to this village, which however seems to be for many Farangs the most important part of Thailand. I cannot understand why: The country is so beautiful, even in the remotest corners there is so much to see and -especially there- are the people so friendly, so what makes Farangs go to an ugly place like Pattaya (yes, I went through Pattaya once on a bus to Rayong, and to me it looked really not so beautiful).
My wife (she's german, too; we're married since july 1996) loves the country and travelling as much as I do and always joins me on my trips. Maybe our sons Julian and Jakob will join us next time, too....
