桃十字 FAQ

黄十字 What is 911 CYBER CLINIC?

911 CYBER CLINIC was created for the well-being of the Japanese residing in foreign countries, especially those have the following symptoms:
Homesickness
Culture Shock
Identity Crises
Problems with Inter-national/racial/religious/ethnic Love Relationships

This site is NOT affiliated with any medical or religious organizations, but a small, personal(but powerful) web site for the Japanese(sorry, at least right now) to stop by and talk about their problems or share interests.

Problems won't be handled by medical professionals, instead, discussed among ordinary people who are interested in the issue. Some visitors to this page might have experienced/solved the similar problems as you have. For those who seek the professional help, the site has a list of Mental Health-related pages as well.

If you have a problem, or if you think you can help someone, just post a message on the bulletin board! (Yes, you can be a "doctor" for someone who's in trouble solely by telling what you think about it!)
We do not limit the visitors to the site, ANYONE IS WELCOME (except commercial advertisements and X-rated matters). Your post can be serious or trivial, "Hi, I'm bored. Drop me a line." is acceptable.

黄十字 Why are the pages written in Japanese?

Although many of the visitors to 911 Cyber Clinic would understand English, all pages are written in Japanese since the main target of this page(well, at least at present) is the Japanese-speaking people.
If you are unable or uncomfortable writing in Japanese, you are welcome to write in English. If you are not an English-speaker yourself, try some "broken" English like I'm doing right now :-)

黄十字 How can I display Japanese fonts (in "Non-Japanese" environment)?

Newsgroups such as alt.Japanese.text or alt.Japanese.misc are good places to ask how to set up English/Japanese bilingual environment.

黄十字 Do you know someone who is Japanese?

Are you hosting a student from Japan? Are you dating someone from Japan? Are you teaching ESL classes? Do you have a co-worker, a neighbor, a classmate or a friend who has a spouse from Japan? Do you deal with a Japanese person on business-bases?

...Anyway, if you should know a Japanese person, please recommend 911 CYBER CLINIC to him/her! It is a known fact(read some psychological journal on homesickness) that people tend to conceal they are homesick, being afraid of labeled as "wimps." You cannot tell if a person is really suffering or not. This page provides private and light "treatment" ...might be the place for him/her! So, recommend 911 Cyber Clinic!!

Please note that 911 Cyber Clinic is a self-help and group-discussion way of reducing the stress related to homesickness and culture shock. 911 Cyber Clinic does not guarantee that a person will fully recover or become anxiety-free.
The page also links to FUN sites and HTML lesson sites in Japanese, so it doesn't hurt to try!!

If a prospect reader doesn't have access to internet, please feel free to print out the pages for him/her (but reproduction is allowed for this purpose only!).

黄十字 Do you know Homesickness resources?

I am looking for Homesickness-related resources in any forms (Web sites, Publications, Videos etc.), in any languages (preferably with English introductions).
Also, does anyone know good university, institute or faculty that researches homesickness?? I'd REALLY appreciate it if you could
email me. Thank you!
