Partake of the mermaid's flesh, the legend says, and you will be granted eternal life and youth. But when you become tired of immortality, what becomes of you?...
I am seeking information and pictures of various Chinese (aside from bootlegs) and Italian releases of any Mermaid saga items -- comics, graphic novels, VHS, DVD, merchandise, etc. etc. If you can help, please e-mail me at chibischala ~~at~~ yahoo.com with "Mermaid" somewhere in the subject line so I don't delete your e-mail as spam. Thanks! ^_^The Mermaid saga is a collection of dark, psychological stories by Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma 1/2, Inu-Yasha, Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, and much more) centering around the legend of the mermaid's flesh. The stories sometimes take place in modern-day Japan and sometimes in ancient Japan.
Mermaid flesh is said to grant eternal life, but not all can withstand its potent effects. Those who fail to gain immortality become hideous, mindless, destructive beasts called Lost Souls.
Yuta is a 20-year-old man who ate mermaid's flesh 500 years ago and is searching for a way to become mortal again. Along the way, he rescues 15-year-old Mana from mermaid crones who were planning to eat her to regain their own youth and beauty.
Together they travel around Japan trying to find a way to regain their mortality. Along the way, they meet other immortals who, tired of going through the suffering in which their loved ones slowly die from old age, leaving the immortals by their lonely selves, have finally cast away the very emotions that make us human. Will Yuta and Mana eventually come to the same end as those other bitterly lonely immortals?
