The Sailormoon R season is divided up into two parts, called "arcs". The first arc deals with Ail and Ann, two aliens who have come to earth in search for energy. The purpose ot this arc was to give the senshi time to regain their memories and powers, since in the first season, the senshi had all died and only their other selves (ie, Tsukino Usagi) remained. [Toei, the producers of the Sailormoon anime, had never planned on doing a second season, but it had been so popular with the public they caved in to popular demand.] The Second Arc begins when a little girl with pink hair and cone shaped odango falls out of the sky....and lands on Usagi's head then demands the ginzuishou with a gun! [but it turns out it's only a water gun] After that, Usagi goes home to find the little girl is now living in her house, and is claiming to be her "cousin"; and to Usagi's shock, anger, and dismay, her whole family seems to "remember" this little girl as their relative Chibiusa.... Not too long after that, Mamoru begins to have visions of a shattering crystal tower, with Usagi [Princess Serenity] inside it, and somehow comes to the conclusion that he has to distance himself from Usagi to make sure she'll remain safe and sound. New enemies, with black moon insignias on their foreheads, begin to appear, the first being Rubeus and the Uncanny Sisters--Cooan, Beruche, Petz, and Karaberas. After a few skirmishes, the senshi learn that the new enemy has been sent by the Black Moon family, who uses droids to search for "the rabbit" [Chibiusa!]. During this time of trying to figure out who Chibiusa is and where she's from, the senshi [excluding Sailormoon] receive power-ups and new communicators, which aid them when each senshi [again, excluding Sailormoon] has a showdown with their Uncanny Sister counterpart. [It goes Rei-Cooan, Ami-Beruche, Minako-Karaberas, and Makoto-Petz]. Rei is the first, and when she faces off against Cooan, they find that Cooan isn't that evil after all, and Sailormoon is able to heal her and convert Cooan to being a human. The same happens when Ami is pushed into battle with Beruche, and in the next episode, when Petz and Karaberas are given a powerful stick that enhances their power tenfold, the senshi first blow up the stick using their combined powers ["Sailor Planet Power!"], then they return to find that Karaberas and Petz are willing to be healed as well. After the four sisters become good, the senshi's next hurdle is to defeat Rubeus.... Chibiusa, who hasn't ever really been nice to Usagi, finds out that Usagi is Sailormoon and steals the ginzuishou from her. That leads to the final battle against Rubeus, and they defeat him with Chibiusa's help (!). Soon, they learn that Chibiusa's from the future, and has traveled to the past so she could aid her mother, who somehow got frozen in sleep. The senshi also discover that the strange toy that Chibiusa always carried around [Luna-P] is really a communication device...a device that allows Chibiusa to talk to a mysterious new senshi....Sailorpluto. A new enemy comes, Esmeraude, also trying to destroy the senshi and capture Chibiusa. Finally, it comes time for Chibiusa to decide the senshi need to journey to the future to TRULY help her mother, and so they go....but it's not easy. They first are confronted by Sailorpluto, and it's revealed that she's the Guardian of Time....but she allows them to pass. They fight a droid, and barely make it to what Chibiusa calls home....30th Century Crystal Tokyo, a heavily damaged city, but was once quite beautiful, with the crystal palace at the heart of things. At the Crystal Palace, they find out about Neo-Queen Serenity [Usagi's future self] and King Endymion [Mamoru's future self] and how Neo-Queen Serenity founded Crystal Tokyo. [extremely funny scene: Mars freaks out when they find out that Chibiusa is really Mamoru & Usagi's future kid!] Sailor Moon is then kidnapped by Prince Demand (Who's the prince of the Black Moon and rules the Black Moon family) Demand has had an obsession with Neo-Queen Serenity for a long, long time, and since he can't have Neo-Queen Serenity, he decides to settle for the next best thing: Sailormoon. After kidnapping her, he attempts to brainwash her into loving him, but of course, Mamoru's the only one for her [=)] Mamoru, frantic to find her and rescue her :), manages to track her down, and when he finds her, he tells Demand off in a majorly ticked-off tone. :) So Usagi is rescued and off they go, back to Crystal Tokyo, and they find that Chibiusa has been lured away by Wiseman, the one who's been manipulating the entire Black Moon family all along. Wiseman brainwashes Chibiusa, and she's filled with so much dark power that her body matures and she becomes Black Lady....whom Wiseman wants as the future queen of the Black Moon. This makes it very difficult for the senshi, who don't want to hurt Chibiusa, but can't allow her to hurt them. The Dark Moon Family goes back to present-day Tokyo, and the senshi follow...resulting in a skirmishes between Black Lady and the senshi. Finally, a sphere of dark energy is released so Wiseman can bring forth a powerful dark entity from another dimension, and the sailor senshi use their "sailor teleport" to get inside... Inside the black energy dome, Sailormoon gets seperated and Demand tries to hypnotize her again, but after three failed tries Wiseman appears to kill off Demand. They fight, and Wiseman suddenly lashes out at Sailormoon [who's watching all of this and being quite vunerable to any and all attacks] when Demand takes the blast for her (!) and shatters Wiseman with his last ounce of energy. A sobbing Sailormoon holds Demand, and Demand thanks her for teaching him about real love....then he dies. Wiseman manages to piece himself back together; then he starts to attack Sailor Moon, and attempts to brainwash her into joining his side by showing her false images of Tux Kamen and Black Lady kissing, and telling her that they hate her, that everyone hates her. Sailormoon, however, manages to just avoid Chibiusa's fate by remembering the small Chibiusa, the one that pleaded for help so her mother could be freed, and when she breaks free of his trance, Wiseman disappears, and she is able to rejoin the other senshi..... They arrive at a platform outdoors, where the wind whips around wildly and Wiseman is the master of the show..... He appears, laughing evilly, saying it's too late, they can't do anything about the darkness he'll unleash. Black Lady appears too, and she tells them she will destroy them..... The stage is now set for the final confrontation. Black Lady attacks all of the senshi, but none of them will fight back. She then tries to hurt Sailormoon by frying her with energy....but Tux Kamen takes the blast for her, and Black Lady is confused. The senshi tell her that when you care for someone, you don't want to hurt them. Black Lady ignores them and continues with her assalt, and Sailormoon joins hands with Tux Kamen, shouting, "Moon Crystal Power!"... In the future, the same light engulfs Neo-Queen Serenity.... Sailormoon suddenly appears as Neo-Queen Serenity [totally shocking all the senshi + Tux Kamen] and tells Black Lady it's time to remember her childhood. She uses the ginzuishou to show Black Lady her true memories (Wiseman won Chibiusa to the dark side by implanting false memories into her mind, and those memories made her to believe she was all alone) and Black Lady remembers; but Wiseman quickly makes Black Lady forget those true memories, and Black Lady begins to attack again, and for a moment, Sailor Moon and Tux Kamen despair... Then they remember the advice that they had about joining together their love; and together they try again to purge Black Lady's false memories. This time it works, and Black Lady runs to Tux Kamen + Sailormoon (they're all inside this column of pink-red light) And when the column fades away, it reveals a sleeping Chibiusa in Sailor Moon's arms (very cute scene--they look like a family!) Then Wiseman attacks Sailor Moon, and a column of grey winds surround her.....and when they fade away, Neo-Queen Serenity stands there again, eyes defiant and ready for battle. She activates the power of the ginzuishou and begins the battle against Wiseman. In the background Chibiusa begins to cry, knowing that Sailor Moon could die, and if she did, it would be all her fault. One of Chibiusa's tears becomes the ginzuishou of the future, and suddenly, Chibi-Usa realizes when the ginzuishou of the future disappeared when she went to touch it, her body had absorbed it! Chibi-Usa holds up her ginzuishou and she suddenly wears a princess gown similar to Princess Serenity's [shocking everyone else] and she joins Sailormoon in attacking Wiseman. The other senshi contribute their power, and Wiseman is destroyed for good. Later, Chibiusa leaves for home, and each of the senshi give her a piece of advice (Minako reminds her not to wet the bed anymore!). Usagi and Chibiusa look at each other, not knowing what to do, until they run to each other and hug tightly. Chibiusa tells Usagi, "Thank you...mama" then leaves. In the future, things are restored to the way they were, and Chibiusa runs through the grassy hills to find her mother, her father, and the four senshi waiting for her; and she runs into her mother's arms with a glad cry as Neo-Queen Serenity says, "Welcome home." |
