Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon (Pretty Soldier Sailormoon) is a shoujo anime based on the manga by Takeuchi Naoko*. Sailormoon, spanning five seasons for the anime and eighteen volumes for the manga, has become popular world wide: it's been translated into English, Cantonese, and German, to name just a few languages.

Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon begins with the awakening of its heroine, Tsukino Usagi*. With the guidance of her talking black cat, Luna, Usagi transforms into the pretty soldier Sailormoon to fight the Dark Kingdom, the enemy in the first season. As the season progresses, Usagi is joined by Mizuno Ami* (Sailormercury), Hino Rei* (Sailormars), Kino Makoto* (Sailorjupiter), and Aino Minako* (Sailorvenus), along with Minako's white cat, Artemis. Their mission is relatively simple: find the maboroshi no ginzuishou (the illusionary silver crystal) and the Princess of the Moon, and assist the princess to defeat the Dark Kingdom.

These first five senshi, commonly refered to as the "inner senshi", are joined by various allies (like Sailorsaturn, Sailorchibimoon, Sailorneptune, Sailoruranus, and Sailorpluto), and of course, fight various enemies (the Black Moon, the Death Busters) as the next four seasons [SailormoonR, SailormoonS, SailormoonSuperS, and SailormoonSailorStars] progress.

*Names of characters are written the Japanese way, with last names first.

This is the Saga of Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon. As Usagi proves over and over again in her midnight battles (Starlight), it is her sweet, innocent love for Mamoru and the others (HoneyMoon) that heals her wounds and keeps her going (Therapy) through the darkest of times, and the love and friendship they give her in return (Kisses) that truly transform her into the soldier of love and justice, Sailormoon.

Even though BSSM ended February 8, 1997 - over a year ago - Usagi-tachi lives on, and what they represent will be eternal.
