Ranma Saotome

Meet Ranma Saotome
This is Ranma Saotome, the main character of the
series. When he was young, Genma, Ranma's dad,
took Ranma on a decade long training mission to
improve his martial arts skills. It worked well,
but Ranma's personality suffered. As a result,
Ranma is a very proud individual and doesn't like
to lose or let other people make decisions for
him. He wasn't too happy to have a fianceč chosen
for him anyway, much less an "uncute" girl like
Akane. Constantly insulting her with weak insults
like "uncute" and "tomboy", Ranma gets hit more
often than he should. The only reason he insults
her the way he does is because he really has feelings
for Akane, he's just too proud a person to admit it.

Other than his ego, Ranma has another problem.
While training in China with his dad, Ranma fell
into Nyannichuan, Spring of Drowned Girl. From now
on, a splash of cold water turns Ranma into a female
version of himself. Ranma hates his curse and is
always looking for Nanniichuan, Spring of Drowned
Man
, an assumed cure. Ranma has gotten used to
his curse, and changes into a girl for various
reasons that would be too embarrassing to do as a
guy (like eating lots of ice cream, learning to
figure skate).

Ranma has another curse too, his greedy father.
Genma has arranged many other fiancečs for Ranma,
usually food or money is involved. As a result,
Ranma has Ukyou and Kodachi as fiancečs. The only
fianceč he got on his own was Shampoo, and even
that was an accident.

As if Ranma didn't have enough problems, he also
is an acute galeophobic, thats is, he is deathly
afraid of cats. Why, do you ask? Well, you can thank
Ranma's dad for that. When Ranma was young,
Genma put Ranma through the ancient training for
Cat-fu fighting. It involved straping the trainee in
fish sausages and throwing him into a pit full of
hungry cats. Genma, unfortunatly, didn't read the
next page of the manual, which said that this
training was banned as it causes severe psychological
trauma. Oh well. The only good side to this problem
is that when exposed to cats for too long, Ranma
fights the fear of cats by mentally becoming one.
In the Cat-fist, he's nearly invincible.
