Adolf Character Bios
There's a few more characters than this, however they are all just piddly minor characters. I only concentrated on the really important ones.
1st Appearance:Book 1, Chapter 1.
Sohei Toge: Toge is pretty much the hero in "Adolf". Or at least one of them. He can also be a stubborn dickhead alot. At the beginning of the book he's a reporter covering the Berlin Olympics but after his brother uncovers documents on Hitler's birth that would crush the Nazis, Toge's life gets turned upside down. The Nazis and their Japanese allies constantly try to get their hands on Toge's documents and put him through hell to do so.
.
1st Appearance:Book 1, Chapter 3.
Adolf Kaufmann: While you could say Toge was the hero of the story, you could also say Adolf Kaufmann is the villian. Or at least one of them. Born in Kobe, Japan young Kaufmann was constantly harrased by his peers because he was half Japanese, half german. He befriends a boy who sticks up on Kaufmann's behalf, Adolf Kamil. However, Kaufmann gets sent to Germany by his father to become a Nazi cadet and you see how much he changes through the story. He becomes an loyal friend to Hitler and a SD officer which is quite strange because at the begining he is an affectionate innocent boy and by the end he's a power hungry monster.
.
1st Appearance:Book 1, Chapter 3.
Adolf Kamil: Moving right along, we find our second Adolf. Kamil was jewish boy who was born in Kobe and befriended Kaufmann. (As I mentioned.) Anywho, throughout the book Kamil is always trying to be a true Japanese. His theory is that he was born and raised in Japan and speaks Japanese so he's as Japanese as Hirohito. Of course he's not accepted because he's ,racially speaking, "not one of them". Throughout the story, he writes to Kaufmann and the consider eachother friends, and for a while after he becomes a Nazi. But since they are so different from when they were friends, the end up enemies.
.
1st Appearance:Book 1, Chapter 1.
Adolf Hitler: I don't think our third Adolf needs any introduction. One of the most bloody dictators in history is the center of attention in "Adolf". In the story Hitler's grandmother was jewish(which may be true) and which makes him just as bad as the Jews according to Nazi law. What makes matters worse for Hitler is Isao Toge(Sohei's brother) and a buncha commies found out documents prooving he has jewish blood in him! This proves to be a pain in the ass for Hitler and constantly sends men out to destroy the dcouments.
.
1st Appearance:Book 1, Chapter 2.
Acetylene Lampe: Lampe is the first man who tries to retrive the secret documents on Hitler from Toge. As a ruthless member of the Gestapo, Acetylene as no problem in killing a large number of people including Hitler! But for everything he's done he does have a human side because he really does care for his daughter, Rosa. As Chief agent in the East Asian department he goes to Japan hoping to kill off Toge and get his hands on the documents. He fails and for the rest of the book is sort of a background character who pops up sometimes, but makes a big impression.
1st Appearance:Book 2, Chapter 6.
Meiko Nikawa: Meiko is the daughter of a Japanese police officer. Her father and Toge become friends and he crashes at the Nikawa's house for a while. She develops a crush on Toge and end up living together for a while. Tragedy strikes when her father is killed by Herr Lampe and only Toge is there to comfort her. Later on, her little crush vanishes and she falls for the communist son of an MP, Yoshio Honda. Yet she's left heartbroken when he is murdered.
1st Appearance:Book 2, Chapter 6.
Inspector Nikawa: The original "good cop". He was introduced when he questioned Toge for an arson. Nikawa's wife was killed after the Kanto Earthqauke when riots broke out and people were killed indiscriminately. After that he swore to uphoad law and order and became a cop. He and Toge become friends and Nikawa tries to help him find the documents on Hitler, but is killed by Lampe.
1st Appearance:Book 1, Chapter 4.
Inspector Akabane: For every good cop, there's a bad cop. Akabane is a true asshole in every format. As an officer in the Japanese Secret Police, he abuses his power and is in charge of rounding up communist rebels and antiwar activists. Miss Ogi and Toge are his favorite targets whom he tortures and put through hell quite often. He gets Toge fired, has him evicted and still taunts him. He ends up going insane and is hired by Adolf Kaufmann to help him kill Toge, Kamil and Ogi in one stroke. However Akabane meets his fate after a bomb raid that kills him.
1st Appearance:Book 3, Chapter 3.
Elisa Guthiemer: When Kaufmann is enrolled in the Hitler Youth, one of his jobs is to distribute "Star of David" badges to Jews. One day when he is out, he comes across a young jewish girl and becomes very fond of her. He overhears that the jews in that area will be sent off to ghetto so Kaufmann snuck her and her family out of Germany and sends them to Japan. The next day Kaufmann participates in the roundup and finds out only Elisa made it to Japan. Her family stayed to transer their bank funds. Without hesitation or mercy Kaufmann sends them to the ghetto. Meanwhile, Elisa made it to Japan to live with Adolf Kamil and the two eventually fall in love and marry. Even after Kaufmann tires to drive them apart.

Sachi Honda: At the beginning of the story, Sachi is already dead. However, she was an extremley important character in the series. She turns out to be a communist spy and a geisha named Kinuko and part of the organaztion that uncovers Hitler's origins. A set of five Richard Wagner statues had a hollow base containing the docuements about Hitler which Isao Toge possesed. Having one of them, Kaufmann's father (a Nazi) goes to Japan, becomes infutuated with her and murders her but in vain. She doesn't have the docuements and her radical thinking inspires her nephew has we'll see.

.

Colonel Honda: Honda is an MP Colonel who pops up every so often. He has a crush on Yukie Kaufmann and is very defensive of her. He is very distant from his son and shoots him when he finds out Yoshio betrayed Japan. Honda also puts Toge through hell getting him fired from job after job after finding out he likes Yukie. In the end, Kaufmann finds out that Yoshio buried the documents under a tree on Honda property. Kaufmann has MP's dig it up but the documents were then worthless because Hitler was dead the day before. Honda, actually helps out Toge and Yukie but commits suicide afterwords.

And in doing so the Secret Police labeled her a Red. Ogi is an active participant in trying to get rid of the Nazis which gets her into trouble alot.

Wolfgang Kaufmann: Wolfgang Kaufmann is one of the the first men the Nazis send to get the Wagner statue and the documents. While Lampe tears up Germany for a while, Wofgang searches Japan. To do that he becomes involved with Kinuko and eventually kills her. But the jokes on him! The statue is a dud because Isao has the real one. He dies when he catches Pneumonia.
