Business Proposal (Part 3)

By: Hunter

Norman Osborn had been called to City Hall for reasons he had not been told over the phone. His limousine pulled up to the steps the mayor had come out to meet him. Norman was now curious as to what was so important that the mayor was meeting him personally. As Norman stepped out of the limousine the mayor immediately greeted him

“Ah, Norman Osborn glad to see you, please follow me we have important business to discuss, Today may be your lucky day”

Norman follows the mayor through the large doors of City Hall, down a long hallway and into a large office.

“Norman I called you here today to discuss your future, As you already know this my last term in office because of my fading health and my wife wants me home more, and I believe that you should be the next mayor of this city”

Norman looks up from his papers in front of him “Why would you pick me to be the next mayor?”

“Because of your genius thinking skills Norman you would be perfect for the job, just think about it this opportunity ok?”

“I will, I give it great thought”

Norman rose and left the building. As he steps back into the limousine he tells the driver to go to Osborn industries. They shortly arrive and the limousine stops in front of the large building, Norman enters the building and heads for the goblin hideout contained within.

“I have no time to be the mayor” Norman thought to himself “I can’t even get ride of Spider-Man let alone be the mayor of such a large city”

“That reminds me I still have to destroy that cursed web-head for the humiliation he’s put me through, He has already put the Chameleon and Mysterio behind bars and he’s almost caught me on both accounts.” Norman thinks to himself.

Norman didn't dwell on that thought for too long. He had other things on his mind. Mainly, planning for his next encounter with Spider-Man.

Norman burst through the doors of his lab "Oh, crap..." he thought. “I’m behind schedule on the testing of the new chemicals”

"Glad you could join us, Norman. I wouldn't want to waste your precious time," Norman’s lab assistant scowled. He was of medium height, with black hair, which was cut short. Not the kind of guy whose bad side you want to get on. Norman slumped into his seat behind the control panel.

“Watch your mouth Johnson, you work for me remember!”

"Since you made such a grand effort to make it here on time," Johnson said, sarcasm saturating every word, "perhaps you'd like to help me perform my next experiment." The rush of air in Norman’s lungs reversed itself. He tried not to stutter, as his humiliation became even more public.

"Johnson I told you to shut-up I expect you to do so "Norman replied with raising anger in his voice. Everyone looked up from his or her work but no one said anything.

“Yes sir” Johnson hated when Norman yelled at him. He always yelled at him for nothing. Even worse, it reminded him of his parents, who would be sure to be angry with him if they found out if he lost his job because he couldn’t handle being yelled at.

Norman made his way down to where James was going to mix two chemicals. Two dangerous chemicals. Norman smirked James looked nervous. It seemed James didn't know whether it could hurt him or not, and didn't care. He refused to believe something like this could kill him.

"Just hold this test tube while I pour the chemical in this beaker into it. But don't spill the test tube's contents. It can do some damage if it comes in contact with skin." Norman said motioning to the test tube.

The thoughts of that made James even more nervous. He hated making mistakes. His skin crawled, as thoughts of his own mortality became more and more rampant.

When Norman began to pour the chemical, James flinched. He couldn't help it. It was not turning out to be a good day, a realization that was enforced by the sloshing sound of chemicals leaving a beaker, but not entering a new one.

"AAAGH!" James cried in pain as the chemicals burned his hand.

"You clumsy oaf!" Norman yelled. "Get down to medical care immediately! We'll discuss how you're going to clean this up later."

"Great. Something else to worry about," James thought, as he staggered out of the lab.

Norman quickly left the lab after James disappeared behind the doors and changed into the Goblin suit.

“Now to find the meddling insect” Norman thought to himself as he jetted through the opening hole in the ceiling above him.

The Green Goblin hovered enveloped in darkness, a feeling now familiar to him. He knew Spider-Man would web-sling by here this seems to be a usual spot to find Spider-Man

Norman waited for what seemed like hours.

“Blast where could Parker be?”

Back at Osborn Industries.

James walks into medical care “Um.. You’re not going to have to cut off my hands are you? I’ve kinda grown attached to them” James said looking down at his burned hands.

The nurse shot a cold stare at him. She was a med student, and James had some qualms about her experience with this kind of thing. With his luck, she was probably there for extra credit so she wouldn't flunk medical school.

"Heh-heh. It was a joke."

The nurse continued to stare.

"Ice queen," James thought.

"Well, the burns aren't too bad," the nurse said. "Let me give them a little treatment and you can be on your way."

The nurse dabbed some treatment on James’s burns.

"GAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!" James cried. "That stings!"

"Well, we could just cut off your hands."

Phil stared at the nurse.

"It was a joke," the nurse said as she turned around.

"It was a joke," Phil said to himself, in a mocking voice.

"What was that?"

"Um...Howdy, cowpoke?"

The nurse rolled her eyes.

"Yep. I am definitely the world's biggest dork," James thought.

"Hey, what're these?" James asked about a couple of prongs that caught his eye.

"Wait, don't touch--"

James touched one and it sent a jolt of electricity through his body.

"--those," the nurse finished her sentence. "We're experimenting with shock therapy," she explained.

"Ah."

"Let me have just one more look at those...burns..." the nurse trailed off as she looked at James’s hand.

"What is it?" James asked, worried.

"Your burns...they aren't as bad as before..."

"A result of the treatment, right?"

"No, that was just supposed to clean up the chemicals and prevent infections. Hmm..."

"What do you mean 'Hmm'?"

The nurse thought for a moment.

"Touch the prongs again," she finally said.

"But..."

"Just do as I say."

James grabbed the prong again and another jolt shot through his body.

The nurse looked at his hand again. "The burns have almost completely healed!" she said, astonished.

Back in the shadows where Norman waited a red and blue blur had past Norman’s now tired eyes.

Norman threw immediately a pumpkin bomb, which exploded a few feet in front of Spider-Man.

“What the..?” Spider-Man asked himself in shock. “The Goblin”

“Alright Norman show yourself,” Spider-Man yelled in no particular direction.

“Right here Parker!”

Norman came out of the shadows, but Spider-Man’s sense had warned him where the Goblin was. Norman was caught off guard as Spider-Man spun around.

“Blast! I keep forgetting about that spider sense of his”

“Hey Gobby! Here’s Web in your eyes”

“Ahh!” Norman yells as his vision is temporarily blocked.

Norman rips the webbing from his eyes and throws another pumpkin bomb in front of Spider-Man.

“Can ya catch a ball Peter?”

The bomb explodes directly in front of Spider-Man sending him plummeting to the ground

“Guess not”

In Part 4—Spider-Man is trapped somewhere and he and the Goblin are in for a large battle and someone is going to lose big time.
