One day in the office where he's working he got scolded by his boss. Ouma always has been weak on courage in the office even though Nanase, a girl in the office that fell for Ouma, tells him to get a backbone. Who would think that a dorky pushover would fall for a cute woman like Nanase? Even Nanase asks herself that question sometimes. All of a sudden, a worker in the office has been accused of embezzelment. This guy is Ryuichi Murikami. He was stealing money from the company he was working at so he could build a life with his girlfriend Keiko Yamamoto.
The next thing that happens is that the company has been talking about an embezzelor in the company and all fingers point to Ryuichi. Before anything could be done, someone finds Keiko Yamamoto hung on a flagpole with a noose around her neck, taking away any fingers of guilt away from Ryuichi. In a strange twistof fate, Ryuchi escaped mortal law.... or did he?
Ouma confronted Ryuchi on the highway with a swarm of ravens. Later, he passes judgement on Ryuchi for perjury... a 4-inch nail pierced through his tongue. The Judge of Darkness revealed himself as someone who passes judgement on those who escape the laws of mortal men. With him, he keeps a book of the laws of the dead with a book, made of human skin. With that, the Judge can communicate with the dead. The Judge also passes judgement on Ryuichi for embezzlement and conspiracy to murder, death by suffocation. A large piece of paper wraps around Ryuichi, blocking away any air. Ryuichi, blinded, fell down in a ravine and died instantly.
Do you know what happened to the money that Ryuichi stole from the company? Well, the company's president, Kawamata (He looks really weird, for he has really big eyes with a large forehead... looks like an alien from outer space.) used the black money to make a hit on his best friend who was at the time, stationed in South America. That is what Ouma discovered while meditating with his book.
Therefore, Oama targeted Kawamata for this inconceivable crime. Somehow, out of nowhere, a man who claims to be a Defense Lawyer of Darkness appears and offers his services. Kawamata didn't buy it, even when the Defense Lawyer gave him an anti-evil talisman, which fended off an attack by Ouma. The Defense Lawyer offered his services later for $500,000. (The Defense Lawyer of Darkness is despised for this, for he always offers his services for very lofty prices.)
This leads to a battle with the Judge of Darkness and the Defence Lawyer of Darkness. Every attack the Judge made with his book was all countered with the Defense Lawyer's gloves. (The Defense Lawyer's gloves are made of human skin, like the Judge's book.) Since they couldn't resolve their differences themselves, the Judge summons Enma and the rest of the Ten Kings of Hell in a court that would put "The State Vs. O.J. Simpson" case to shame!
In the court, all was going well for Kawamata until he got to close to Enma's mirror. kawamata's reflection in the mirror then confessed to the heinous crime. His mirror image passes judgement for his crime, death by asphxiation. Nanase, who was in the hallway, walked into Kawamata's office to find Kawamata dead with his hands viced around his neck.
This ends a battle with the Judge of Darkness and the Defense Lawyer of Darkness for now. However, if there is ever someone who escapes the laws of mortal men somethere in the world, they will be there to make sur that justice will be passed, living or dead, no matter what.
