A Dark Overture
Queen Beryl was on her knees.
"How, did you fare, Beryl?" a sharp female voice tore through the pitch-black room. There was a single beam of faint blue light at the very front of the room, and it revealed a vague feminine silhouette. It was the silhouette of the Queen Metallia, sitting upon her throne. "Did you find the four generals just like I ordered?"
Queen Beryl kept her head bowed low to the ground as she spoke. "Yes, my liege. They seem to be worthy enough to serve you."
The vague lips curled in an evil, twisted smile. "Excellent," she said simply, her long fingernails scratching against each other as she clasped her hands together. Beryl could sense in her voice that she was pleased, and seeing as that it was her chance to ask a question, she opened her mouth.
The Queen Metallia rudely interrupted her; "Now that you've seen the four generals, Beryl, then your mission must be clear to you…" she told her servant expectantly, her voice suddenly becoming stern in tone.
Beryl broke out in cold sweat. "Ah, ah--" she stammered helplessly as she struggled to find her tongue. "Forgive me, my liege, but I do not know." The Queen Beryl squeezed her eyes shut in anticipation of a severe punishment. Fortunately for her, Metallia was aware that she had not given her slave full instructions, so she proceeded to do so.
"You are forgiven," Metallia declared authoritatively, standing up from her throne. She waved her hands in a circle once, and a crystal ball appeared out of nowhere. She sat down once again as she let the crystal ball did all the tale spinning.
The crystal ball showed the kneeling Beryl the four general fighting in a war alongside Prince Endymion. All five were on horseback, and they were leading the army to attack the enemy.
"This is the Prince Endymion, as you may have known," the Queen Metallia told her servant, sensing that the sharp eyes had softened upon the sight of the prince. "The four generals are his protectors, and they go wherever the prince goes."
Beryl nodded to show her comprehension. She was immersed in the scene that filled the crystal ball. With slightly glassed over eyes, she watched as her dear Prince Endymion wield his sword skillfully at the charging attackers. Her heart stopped when she saw soldier coming from his back, and was about to strike—
Then Jadeite countered the attacking soldier with his sword. The Queen Beryl breathed a sign of relief, in spite of herself as she watched Jadeite deal a fatal blow to the unfortunate soldier. The Queen Metallia took note of her relief, and proceeded to narrate, "That is the first general, Jadeite. You saw him at the masquerade ball earlier tonight. It has been said that he was the serious one among the Prince's generals." Beryl watched with full attention as she watched the general skillfully fight the other enemies. She could very well see the potency of his fighting skills as he covered Prince Endymion's back.
The scene shifted to focus on Nephrite, who was busy fighting as well. If she wasn't wrong, he was holding a child in his arms, and after finishing all his foes, he brought the quivering little boy to safety on a high mountain ledge. He patted the quivering child gently on the head and seemed to reassure him that he'll come back to get him down.
"This is Nephrite, the second general, " Queen Metallia explained as the Queen Beryl watched him jump swiftly down to resume his share of the combat. "His powers are immense, but I have seen his lone weakness." Beryl looked up curiously. "What is it, my liege?"
Metallia's voice rang with craftiness. "It has been said that this general's emotions seem to overpower him on some instances. That might be a useful fact for you, Beryl."
"Yes, thank you, my mistress," Beryl bowed slightly, and continued to watch the ball as it showed her a different scene this time. She saw the generals Zoicite and Kunzite discussing something as the battle raged on about 500 meters from where they were. General Zoicite was holding a diagram, and he pointed to a certain part of it, while Kunzite looked at what Zoicite was referring to, the enemy base about half a mile from him near the east. After nodding their heads in agreement, Zoicite rode away from Kunzite for about 10 meters, leading Kunzite's horse along, too, then looked back to watch as Kunzite was trying to summon up an ample charge. Moments later, a determined Kunzite was surrounded by a strong battle aura. In about ten seconds, he released a blast that went straight for the enemy base, and, in an instant, it lit up in flames. Zoicite had an arrogant look on his face as he watched the enemy besiegers panic and retreat. Meanwhile, Kunzite stood there, wet with sweat and utterly exhausted, but with a triumphant look on his face. General Zoicite rode over to him, and together, they watched Prince Endymion and their army cheer in victory.
The Queen Beryl looked impressed. "Those are the generals, Zoicite and Kunzite. Zoicite has been known to be the strategist of the group. "It is true that he is brilliant, but his vanity is weakness," Queen Metallia explained with a very rare slight tinge of amusement in her voice. The crystal ball revealed Zoicite whipping out a silver comb and starting to comb his hair overconfidently while Kunzite looked on at the damage he caused without as much as a blink.
"Kunzite, the fourth general, is the most powerful," Queen Metallia continued. Queen Beryl looked at her expectantly, waiting for her to tell what weakness the fourth general had. The Queen Metallia paused.
"I will leave it upon you to find his weakness," she finally said. Queen Beryl nodded as she waited for further instruction.
"And now you will find a way to get them assimilated to the dark kingdom. I am counting on you, Beryl, for I will not settle for anyone less than the generals. They will be the perfect servants, with their ample knowledge about the Moon Kingdom, their immense powers, and the trust both the Moon and Earth Imperial families have placed in them. Have I made myself clear?" The voice was beyond stern and uncompromising.
Beryl fell to the floor once more on her knees. "Your will be done, my mistress."
