In Honor Hohan Soken Sensei

Shihan Charles D. Garrett II Okinawan Shorin-ryu Matsumura Seito Karate-do

Shihan Charles has been practicing the art of Okinawan Shorin-ryu Matsumura Seito Karate-do since Oct 70.  Since returning from Okinawa in Sept 1972 Shihan Charles has continuously practiced, except during his Gillien Berre time period (Apr 78 June 78).  Returning from Hospital working out with a walker.    Bob Null seito, tried to defeat Shihan Charles just prior too his entrance to the hospital, and the first night return to dojo.  Shihan had no hard feelings, since he put his body into dojo to work out.  Sensei's should never be afraid to teach their seito too be better then themselves.

Shinshii Melchior Tecson

Shinshii Melchior Tecson  was just located in the last couple of months.   Found because of stereo speakers left behind in my home by, Uncle John, a Hawaii friend of my son's.   What a small World it is after all!  Tecson Sensei is Shihan Charles Garrett's Sempei.  Presently living in Seattle but working out of Hawaii.  He may become the Kaicho of SHOKA.   Since he is Sempei to Shinhan Garrett.  Awarded same certificates, to issue as Garrett Sensei.

SHINSHII CARL MAY

Shinshi Carl May, has been studying with Shihan Charles Garrett II since January 1974.   Used to be a World Class Gymnist, then got into the Martial arts for health.   Carl May Sensei, with large bone structure has some of the softest flowing moves, more so than any other seito under Shihan Charles.  Sensei May is also a Vice Principal at a Middle School, and teaches.  Shinshi Carl is into the arts for the Health, and confidence.  His katas even look like Hohan Soken Sensei's kata. Presently holds a  Go dan.

Shinshii Wayne Donovan

Shinshi Wayne Donovan started Okinawan Shorin-ryu Matsumura Seito under Shihan Charles in January 1975.  This individual is like a sponge, absorbing so quickly.  After 9 months direct training Shinshi Wayne had to move to New Orleans.  Two nights before he left Wayne was asked "If he was going to continue his Martial Arts, and if he was taught 3 more kata whether he would forget them or not".   Wayne answered "Yes Sensei, he would continue, and won't forget the new forms".   It was unbelieveable, he learned Pinnan Yon Kata, and Passai sho and Dai katas, in two days.   His last night I requested he perform all kata as fast as possible, without stopping between forms, just continuing motion.   He was letter perfect.   Moving to New Orleans the closest style to Matsumura he could find was Tong So Do Karate.   Still practicing his Matsumura forms and returning the following summers and practicing with me.  Several visits during the 80s, and then earning Sho dan in 83, then Nidan in 96.  Soon to open dojo in New Orleans teaching Matsumura Shorin-ryu.  He also took Nationals in Tong So Do karate.

Shinshii Charles D. Garrett III

Shinshi Charles D. Garrett III, has been practicing since the age of 2.  Even though his exercise started at six months old.  He was able to do 50 situps at a time, while he was holding my fingers.  Will try and locate photo, where while working out on log in mountains doing Chinto kata.  Today Sensei CDG III, is 245 lbs and does kata so beautifully soft for his size.  Important point of Matsumura Shorin-ryu karate!  Still living at home at age 22, but again he has Okinawan mother Haru K. Garrett, who is only 5' 2".  Charles san is 6' 2' or there about.

Yudanchi Shaun Ryan Garrett

Yudanchi Shaun, Shihan Charles II's number Two son.  Wasn't pushed as hard with karate, but very great Kumite!  Started at age 5 in 1984, and until high school completed.  Tall and skinny unlike his brother CDG III.  His karate just a little different than his brothers, but stronge.  Stronge because he leaded the mental concepts earlier in practice.

Shinshi Ector Roebuck

Shinshi Ector Roebuck; has a long line of history dating to 1965.  He started out in Shotokan Karate in Japan.  Then got in Matsumura Shorin-ryu in 1966 for almost a year.   Went to Viet-nam and  got into Taekwon do for two years.  Ventured to Tailand and continued his Taekwon don.  He is from the old school of pugging it up.   Head to head punching, not caring about getting hit.   Returned to Okinawa in 75 and continued his Matsaumura Shorin-ryu then changed to Kenshin-kan by Fise Kise Sensei for two years.   1995 Ector Roebuck Sensei started practicing  Matsumura Shorin-ryu under Shihan Charles Garrett II.  Presently holds a Yon dan.

Yudanchi Michael Jelinick

Yudanchi Michael san started Matsumura Shorin ryu almost two years ago now.   Was practicting Shori Ryu karate and Judo when in his teens.  Master at computer works, and analizes his Karate like a computer.  Searches high and low for concepts.  Shihan Garrett's first black belt to attempt Kagami yoni with out being told in Kobudo of Hohan Soken.

Shinshi  Jesse Hughes III

Shinshi Jesse Hughes III, is the First Individual out side of Honbu Seito that Joined SHOKA.  He also assisted in its naming, and now produces fantastic CDs for our association.  Shinshi Jesse started  Kenshinkan in the mid 70s, and worked in Law in Forcement: cracking a terriable rape case.    Shinshi Jesse also earned the FIRST Yon dan certificate issued outside of HONBU dojo.  During Oct 1999 visited for a few days of workout with Shihan Charles D. Garrett II.  During which time period, SHOKA was visited by Soken Gokai D0-Ryu high ranking seito, along with Beginners; from New Hampshire.  Shinshi Jesse has been a Great provider to SHOKA's growth.  Thank YOU
