CARPENTER AVENUE SCHOOL ALL-SCHOOL PICNIC, SEPTEMBER 30, 2007 (by Michael and Hiromi Chang) The Carpenter Avenue School annual all-school picnic was held at Beeman Park on Sunday, September 30th, 2007. This year the picnic featured a variety of sports, fundraising activities, and refreshments. Notably well-organized was the Hands Across Carpenter program, which was started back in 2002. Inked with children’s names and the year they were created, each beautiful tile is used to decorate the school. Each year the fundraising activity collects anywhere from $1500 to $1800 for the school. (Pictured are Kim Small, Jennifer Trent, Sue Brooks, and Sandy Roth). Debra Van Tongren and Wendy Schiffer were seen cooking up some fresh (and free!) popcorn. Debbie Bodo, Pricilla and Scarlett were already planning ahead, preparing a banner for the Halloween carnival. Tonni Ratcliff was spotted cheering for the venerable Shop at the Mall program. Eilene and Ethan Krakover offered watermelons and raffle tickets to benefit fifth graders. Bill Brewington and Pam Epstein were found hard at work filling the “thousands” of water balloons that made their way to the battle ground showcasing the students’ water balloon slinging accuracy. According to Mrs. Parth, who was in cheerful spirits and seen pictured with Tracy and Jordan Shaffer, it’s been a number of years that Carpenter Avenue School has held its annual Kindergarten picnic, followed a couple of weeks later by the All-School Picnic. “Thanks to all the volunteer parents for making this a success. It looks like everybody is having a great time.” 1
