REVOLUTIONARY GIRL UTENADespite the lively colors, and comic reliefs here and there, Revolutionary Girl Utena is the story of an eccentric heroine lost to a world of mystery and intrigue. If you think Neon Genesis Evangelion was a masterpiece, then Utena is a must to see. Don't let the "Cartoony" style fool you. Utena has its share of unusual characters, mind boggling plots and imagery ready to keep us wondering about life and death.

The very first question that struck me was, "Why so many symbols and images of death around young people?" Don't let the fancy and glamorous look of Utena blow you away or you'll miss what the whole series is about. Even if I've only watched the first 4 episodes and a few clips here and there... (hehehe... ^_^*... Anyone generous enough to send me copies? anyone?) Utena is a must see! You definitely should not let this anime pass you by!
According to some rumors there are already two movies of Utena out (already?). As it happens, the series has been showing in Japan for quite some time, and yes, quite popular too. If you are new to anime, or is one of those otaku people who loves to solve mysteries... I'll say it again, go to the nearest video shop and get your copy! There are times that you might have to watch Utena several times before you actually get what is going on...(well, how many times did you hit the rewind button while watching Evangelion, surely not just to look at Rei's beautiful face...)

people may find weird about Utena is its surreal feel. A
good example would be the Shadow girls, the two girls who
fill us in on the story. They neither play part of
Narrator, or character of the story (a greek chorus). Symbols and imagery play a very important role on Utena so watch everything carefully... (See!!! you should've listened to your English teacher!!!) |

Over all, Utena is a really, really great anime! I'll try my best to keep ya folks updated. It's pretty hard to find Utena resources around here since she's just started to land on US shores. If you have any resources on Utena as well, you would be deeply appreciated if you would share it with little ol me... ^_~!!!
