Ranma 1/2 is a story about a boy named Ranma Saotome. He and his father go on a training trip to China to better their martial arts skills. In a accident , Ranma and Genma fell into cursed springs. Genma fell into a spring of drowned Panda, he turns into a panda when he is splashed by cold water. Ranma also has a curse, but he turns into a girl when splashed by cold water. Ranma arrives in Japan with his father because Genma has promised Ranma to one of his friend's daughters. Since fate always seems to mess with Ranma, he and his father arrive in transformed bodies. After meeting in the bathroom, Akane finds Ranma is actually a boy. When learning that Ranma is half-girl the daughters begin making excuses to not marry Ranma. Akane is pushed into being Ranma's fiancee, even though they don't seem to like each other.
