| The Tora Shizoku (House Tora of the SCA) was founded in August of 1998 by three members of the Tiger Bujinkan Dojo, whose ideals were to create a warrior household of former dojo members and others who wished to promote the Bushido warrior's code within the SCA. The three founding members of Tora (Damashi of Tora, Kage Neko & JinYoshii of Iga) set out to create some guidelines and such for the new house. Neko & JinYoshii approached Damashi with the idea of being the Clan leader (Damashi had been the head instructor of the dojo) and an idea of using the kanji for Tora as a house badge. Damashi drew up a version of the symbol which JinYoshii then tooled in to leather to make the house banner. Our first official war was Fall Potrero 1998, and we have been going strong ever since. Kage Neko no longer plays with the SCA, and JinYoshii has passed away (Rest in Peace, my friend!), but Damashi is still the house leader and almost all of the original members are still with us. Our house strongly follows the four oaths of Bushido (a samurai code based on Confucionist thought) and most members are involved in a combat art of the SCA [Heavies, Fencing, Equestrian, etc.] Our house colors are black and white, and the badge of a member is shown as the kanji for "Tiger" (tora) shown as white on a black background. There are three reconized levels of membership within the Clan: The House leader (Saikoushidosha), House members, and house pledges. An honorary title of kibousha (interested party) is given to those who wish to join the house but have not yet pledged. Below are those who have been accepted in to the ranks of our household. |
