But for the Grace of God (Mar. 26, '97)

A not-quite-sane friend who bought shares in both Silicon Graphics Inc. and Oracle Corp. in the first week of Decemeber 1996 claims that he is an "Even Steven". Decide for yourself from the stock charts.
From CNN last Friday:
Arkansas' Republican governor Mike Huckabee refused to sign a bill on disaster relief because it called tornadoes "acts of God." Huckabee, a Baptist minister, asked that "natural disasters" be used instead, saying it disturbed him "to attribute a destructive and deadly force as being an 'act of God.'"
There are alleviating circumstances. Arkansans didn't exactly vote this guy in as their governor. Rev. Mike, who was merely the Lt. Governor, replaced Jimmy Guy Tucker. The right honorable Mr. Tucker, of course, had to vacate office to become a guest of his state's correctional facility.

Who are we to laugh any way? Remember the Oklahoma congressman who found the movie Schindler's List titillating ? Well, according to our local newspaper, his constituents fully supported him. So, when I read something like this, my immediate reaction is to thank heavens -- but for the grace of God ....
