Time Pressure (Oct. 28, '98)

The days when I could holler across the corridor to set up a marathon bridge session are now over. The three fellows with whom I used to play those late-night bridge games are scattered around the world. I tried to set up an Internet game with them but found that I seem to be the only one with time on my hands.

In the meanwhile, though, I have discovered a group of folks in Norman who play bridge twice a week. Once a week is on Friday mornings and my employer usually expects me to work then. The other time is on Sunday evenings. I went one Sunday, found a temporary partner and played for over three hours. The game was good, my partner was friendly and we did rather well for two folks playing for the first time together.

I thought I would be going very often. "Twice or thrice a month," I thought. It hasn't worked that way. I've gone thrice in the last three months. It looks as if, all my claims to the contrary, I am feeling time pressure too.
