Still, my experience with free software has not been very good. The whole idea of a bazaar is very good when you need to develop software; it just isn't all that good when all you want to do is to use it.
So, free software is good when the users are all technical folks -- it is good for compilers and text editors. Free software is horrible when it comes to user-interactive stuff. And typically, configuring and installing free software is a painful experience.
So, all this talk of Linux burying Microsoft? Won't happen. Microsoft might bury itself, but it will be for wholly different reasons. Such as that in a world of open standards, proprietary software may not stand a chance. Free software may make a better story, but open standards are what are driving all the change.
