Revenge of the Clueless (Mar. 4, '98)

I'm losing touch; I don't know the stuff that is happening. Recently, for example, I found myself in a conversation where there was talk about "South Park". "What is it," I asked, only to find out that it is only the most popular new show on TV. Apparently, it is the hottest thing online too, with an estimated 1000 websites devoted to it. And (this according to our local paper), a guy called Kenny dies every episode. Of course, not knowing about the latest hit TV show wouldn't put me off so much. It's just all the other crazy things that have been happening that I had no clue about.

The latest Indian elections for instance. In my home state, the Tamil incarnation of Mrs. Marcos comes to power all over again. And I would have sworn to you before the election that such a corrupt person had no chance of being elected. Now I'm trying to justify it saying that the voters didn't have much of a choice.

Obligatory rant: We should send the Department of Justice to investigate the politicians. After all, two parties is too much of a monopoly. When you want to kick one rascal out, you have to kick the other rascal in.

While typing all this out, I realized the irony: a search engine will probably return this page professing ignorance about "South Park" to fans searching for one of the other 999 sites. Call it the revenge of a guy losing touch with the real world ...
