Phase Mux is a combination(Mutilation?) of Palladium's Phase world with a simpler system based off of Lee Gholson and friends' Elflord System. In the beginning, the players are based on one of two different ships. The ships have a rivalry and tend to be sent on missions of opposing sides. The first ship is a military vessel, Epsilon's Hand. The other is a mercenary ship, Kane's Will.
Besides the occasional conflict of battling on opposing sides, Epsilon's Hand tries to keep the peace by; holding down uprisings, chasing pirates, and fighting off Alien and Demonic beings. The crew of the ship vary widely. There are Mages, Psionics, but mostly regular beings that pilot advanced power armor. Perks of being involved in the military include free replacement and repairs of equipment and medical care. Of course you live in a more restricted environment as well. Anything you find or confiscate will also go to the military. You don't keep it.
Kane's Will is a mercenary ship. That being so, the crew works for pay and bounty. There are times when the ship may run into trouble when it is not looking for it. Those are the times when it is hoped the salvage of the effort is worth the expenditure of time, equipment and life. The perks of signing up with Kane's Will is that you get to keep a good deal of the salvage you acquire. You also are able to modify your equipment. This makes the unit seemingly rag tag. But in reality, it tends to work out for the best. A few problems are that you have to cover your own use of ammunition and repairs or replacement of your equipment. If you can't cover it yourself, you might be able to persuade someone to give you a loan.
The universes out there are filled with things that the average man both takes for granted and also may never understand. There is high technology. There is also Magic and monsters from nightmares out there as well. Aliens can be friendly or, like the Splurgoth, sadistic and bent on their own profit.
