Artist, writer, philosopher, programmer, gamer, and poet. Place the word frustrated in front of these words and you get a pretty good impression of what the author is like.
With his little talent for art, music, and story writing, he hopes to someday put his meager abilities to use in a game people will enjoy playing.
He disdains most educational systems and quit school before graduating. After two rather short jobs and two rather short relationships, he has returned from the city to live at home,
and ponder his miserable life while fueling his dreams with episodes of Star Trek: Voyager and the occasional mug of instant coffee. He fondly recalls those days when it used to be a pitcher of coffee.
He worships the creative genius of Squaresoft, the musical genius of Nobuo Uematsu, and loves anything scientific that stretches the imagination. Always a dreamer, he loves to
escape into the worlds of C.S. Lewis, Orson Scott Card, and Raymond E. Fiest, among other authors.
He currently stays in his parents home in Angeles City, Philippines, hoping that he can hone his skills enough to be noticed, sitting in front of his computer most of the time,
dreaming of golden sunsets, clear blue skies, and crisp morning air.
Gamer is a word that calls to mind a figure hulked over his Playstation controller or PC keyboard-and-mouse, playing games until the wee hours whilst ogling at the latest battle system they've invented over at Square.
Coffee is a Gamer's lifeblood, and bloodshot eyes are worn as insignia. David is not much of a Gamer but is a true admirer of games as a triumph of nerds over the rest of those jock-scratching people. Hehehe. A classic gamer, David collects and archives old games he has enjoyed, along with old games that he never knew about before.
He has a tendency to hog his Pentium II 400 all to himself. He relatively recently upgraded to a Voodoo3 2000, his first real 3D accelerated card. He likes to hold on to old, proven hardware and keeps his computer the way he bought it as long as it works fine.
His first computer was a Commodore 64 and has recently found more reason to be proud of this ownership when he learned it was the first multichannel, multicolor personal computer (it was based on hardware similar to Nintendo's Family Computer, but had ROM BASIC).
Darwin Lopez seemed like your regular guy. Perhaps a bit too old to be in 3rd year college. Always dressed in checkered polos and dark jeans, he always seemed to be carrying a big book about computers. Those hacker-wannabe types. He talked of Bulletin Boards and emulators, how you could play Nintendo games on a PC. Dave logged onto his first BBS from a list Darwin lent him. There were files, there were emulators, there were no ROMs, and things went slow for a while. After the BBS craze came and went, the Internet became widely (and relatively cheaply) accessible, and promptly took over Dave's life.
1998 was the Golden Age of Emulation when console emulators came to their fore. ROM sites popped up all over the place and Dave enjoyed many good games and translations of beloved Japanese RPGs he never thought he'd get to play in English.
Life came full circle when Dave decided to try his hand at ROM hacking/translation. Although he has yet to finish his first patch, he fully well knows he is capable of learning anything set before him, provided he has the will, the skill, the knowledge, the Internet, and a good cup of coffee.
Darwin, wherever you are, live long and prosper.
