3/13/05 - Akazukin Cha Cha RPG - ツヅケル!

Whaaaa - It's been three years since I started this project?!

I've restarted this project in the hopes that before I hit 30, and in the unlikely event that retrogaming will die out, I will have contributed something (important?) to humanity. I have located some of the script's pointers and verified that changing them does indeed change the script. The kanji has been 100% mapped, and the script has been dumped completely.

Ryoko Ayanami (aka bunnychan), famed translator of several pieces on Animelyrics, has agreed to translate the script for me. Hopefully, the script will be translated quickly, and we may see a beta patch coming out soon.

In return, she's requested me to help her translate the GameBoy Advance RPG GetBackers, or failing that (and upon unending pain of death :)) help her find someone who hacks GBA ROMs.

Yes, in a strange turn of events, a translator is now looking for someone to hack a ROM.

Interested parties (willing to save my neck) may do well to mail me!

2/16/2005 - RagSource

I am releasing the source code for RagCam, RSMImp, and the new Sprite Viewer under the GNU General Public License. The source is sparsely documented. Ragcam is still very much a beta version.

RagCam includes the libgrf source code, which also uses the zlib compression library, to open GRF files directly. Yes! No need to extract data.grf anymore. You can view the maps directly from the grf.

RSMImp is based on the 3D Studio Max 3DS file format importer, and as a result still contains a lot of 3DS specific code.

SprView is my SpriteViewer also refitted to read directly from GRF files.

8/5/04 - The Ultimate PSX Gamepad Interface

Oh no! Another PS-to-PC hack? Ok, Ok, let's face it... the Playstation is definitely outdated...

All the more reason to rip off the front of your console and stick it on your PC! Watch your friends ogle and drool with envy as you take your Standard Playstation ControllerTM or Dual Shock Analog ControllerTM and plug it into the front of your PC and play your favorite PS, SNES, GBA, Famicom, heck, even Commodore 64 games with the air of nonchalance of an ultimate classic gamer.

The Good News:

  • Looks cooler than a gamepad cut and spliced into a 25-pin parallel port connector.
  • Takes power from the system's +5V power rail.
  • Allows two controllers to be connected at the same time.
  • Less wiring protruding from the back of your beloved PC.
  • Instant support for reading/writing memory cards through Memory Card Captor Sakura. (And possibly future support for PS2 cards?)
The Bad News:
  • Well, I did mention that you need to rip off the front of your Playstation Console...
  • Rather decreases productivity. Well, you have been warned.

Instructions up soon...

6/13/04 - Desktop Poring and other RagTools

New Desktop Toy
Are you really bored, busy or lonely? Download this desktop toy, to keep you company while you sit there in front of your monitor.

Warning: Poring's repetitive sound may drive you crazy.

Just in case, you can turn the sound off, by right clicking it. And when you get bored of it, you can go ahead and kill it with a standard double-click attack.

More Ragnarok Tools
I've decided to put up the Ragnarok tools I've been using. One is a sprite viewer, whic allows you to look at all the 2D objects in the game, including character animations, attack effects, monsters, npcs, and icons and emoticons. This is where I get my motherload of Ragnarok goodies that I then use to create RagnaParaphernalia like the Desktop Poring, and animated cursors. The other app is like RagCam but for RSM files only. It shows you the 3D model's in-depth information, such as number of vertices and faces, and even displays the textures used. For you 3D and Ragnarok enthusiasts out there.

Ragnarok Battle Pets?
On a final note I've been thinking of creating a Ragnarok Desktop Toy that is kind of like a tamagotchi. You take care of your pet, feed it, play with it, and... pit it in battles with other players online? Battles will be P2P, so you'll need to know your friend's IP address. What do you think?

Halls of Valhalla
On a second final note, I'm also thinking of making a Ragnarok-like chat-only application that doesn't use 3D. Something like Raymond E. Feist's idea of a Hall of the Worlds, with parts of the void leading to Honest John's, a place where people of different temperaments can mingle. It'll be a 3/4 view, with the same character sprites. Ops will be barkeeps or innkeepers, and there will be online games where you can earn or lose zenny. Backgrounds will be rich hand-drawn and hand-painted, ala Saga Frontier 2. Hopefully we can find someone to host the servers for free...

Now it really does sound impossible.

Ragnarok Rendered
The Ragnarok RSM/GND import plugin for 3DStudio MAX is a plugin I wrote using the same base code as RagCam to allow 3DSMax users to open Ragnarok 3D models use them in their own animations. I used the plugin to create these stunning shots:

Night falls on Comodo PVP Room The HMS Alberta leaves port

RagCam Update I've also updated RagCam, and added a GUI.

8/23/03 - OpenGL wrapper for Voodoo users

8/23/03
Note: RSMView is now known as Ragcam. Voodoo users can now use Ragcam! Download 3dfx's OpenGL wrapper here and extract it into the same folder as Ragcam. There is a HUGE speed increase for Voodoo cards,as it bypasses Micro$oft's slow software mode. The downside is that you don't get the fog effect using this wrapper. (It was created during the last days of 3dfx) If you're not using Voodoo, you don't need this.

8/17/03 Ragnarok Ownz!

I've been hooked on Ragnarok Online. For those who've been hiding in their bunkers these past few years, its the most Massively Multiplayer Online RPG. Its sweet.

Anyhow, I found a utility that lets you view the town and field maps of Ragnarok,as well as the individual 3D models that are found throughout the game. It was... functional but lacked user friendliness. Luckily, the source code was freely available and even more luckily(?), I was able to modify it to my taste. Here it is, the Ragnarok World Viewer. Take a different perspective on Ragnarok... :)

Download: RagCam Updated

Please read the instructions, and make sure you have a good 3D card, the Ragnarok installer, 1.4GB free hard disk space, 128MB RAM, and a fast CPU.

Look at the detail on that! This was taken using on my Voodoo3 2000, 128MB RAM, Pentium II 400MHz. (Voodoo not recommended, OpenGL cards like GeForce should be used.)

7/30/03 The Gallery is back up

I've put up the gallery again.

You can find it here.

On that happy note, I've been playing too much Ragnarok Online... I think I'll put my RO art up as well.

7/7/03 Ouch!

Yeah, Its been a while.

My 40GB Seagate hard disk crashed (partially my fault, the BIOS was set to boot into Drive D) and most of my emulation stuff and whatnot was lost. Including the Cha Cha translation hacks. Never fear, the project is not dead.

I hope to get back on it ASAP and revamp my site while I'm at it. Until then, Keep in touch, and keep sending in those mails! I really appreciate your feedback, and I love to help where I can!

Ciao!

By the way, the BlogSpot is finally up. Feel free to drop by...

12/29/02 C3 Cosplay Pics

Happy holidays to all!

Here are some of the pics I took at the Culture Crash Comics convention on December 22. I learned a few important things about photography since then:

  • Shooting directly at a subject whose background is a glossy surface that reflects the spotlight behind you will darken the subject, unless you are using spot metering.
  • Cheap film will ruin the quality of your shots, no matter how good your camera is.
  • People will stick their heads, arms, and other body parts into the frame at the most convenient moment i.e. when you are snapping a shot.
  • Photographers at the local photo developer will take a fancy for people's rolls of film and take them home without further notice to the owner of the film.

When I get my hands on that guy I'm gonna...

At any rate, here's a few of the pics (the ones that were good enough for posting).

12/14/02 - New Playstation Memory Card Utility!

Merry Christmas to all! And here's a gift for all the visitors!

PSMem is a program I wrote that allows you to view and edit memory cards. It also has a unique search feature that allows you to look for a particular savegame INSIDE memory cards! The search feature will look through all the memory cards in a folder, and match a savegame against data you are looking for. Useful if you can't remember where a savegame was stored.

A must for Playstation emulator fans. Try it out and tell me what you think!

Go to download it at the emulation page.

Akazukin Cha Cha RPG Translation - HAJIME YO!

Ender here.

I have just started working on a translation project for Akazukin Cha Cha RPG. If you're interested in helping, please mail me.

You can see the details of this project here.

Random Update

I appreciate all the people who've mailed me about their emulation problems, so just keep sending them in! I'll try to update more oftern, but I'm thinking of rebuilding my site.

I'll be adding a programming section, where I will upload the source for my current WIPs. If you want binaries, I could compile them, but I can't verify that they're ABSOLUTELY 100% bug- and virus-free. But they ARE free, and hopefully useful. Since I'm working with VB that'll be most of it.

Til next update, keep bringing in the mail! Ciao!
