The song "Marakech" (from the 1988 album Citron) has always been a favorite of mine, and the lines quoted in the picture above seem like a metaphor for the last 20 years of Seiko's life. It's almost unthinkable that some of her strongest work...the Forever and 20th Party CDs and concert tours, the highly emotional and personal Zepp concerts...could come near the end of her second decade as a performer. She rose to the top of a male-dominated industry and society...survived personal heartache and the unblinking eye of the media...to emerge happily married, radiantly beautiful, and a continued inspiration to those who have been fortunate enough to join her on the "magic carpet ride."
