Seiko
performs "Aoi Sangoshu" on Japanese TV (December 1983)
As you can see, Seiko the performer has
begun to blossom. Compare this to the previous page and you will
see that the formal, polite girl who performed "Hadashi
No Kisetsu " a year and a half earlier now wants to dance...and
dance...she seems to be more comfortable on the stage, and it
is if she wants to own it...during the course of the video, she
is up and down and all around. Seiko decided very early in her
career that she would establish a connection with her audience
and not merely be a passive performer.
If you
are a Seiko fan and don't own "Bon Voyage: Best Of Clips
And Lives" (it's the source of these pictures), I urge you
to buy it. It really is a beautiful overview of her Sony years.
As a bonus, the 1995 Seiko "pops in" from time to time
and comments on the clips that are being shown. Many people want
to collect Seiko's videos and ask me "which one should I
buy first?" My answer: this one.
On a technical
note: those of you familiar with Seiko's earlier videos know that
the lighting was often very light or very dark...and in this case,
both. I decided that the "historical significance" of
the pics outweighed the technical difficulties, so I hope you
enjoy them.
