Landing near a small town, miles away from the gigantic city, Shon decided to rest. "This should be far enough from them." Shon's stomach began to growl. "Its time to eat." He walked into the town with a sense of peace. A smile crossed his face as hew saw two children chasing each other. It reminded him of the Syll and how happy they were. A sweet aroma floated past his nostrils turning him from his path to the left. He walked right up to an open window where the sweet scent was coming from. His mouth watered as he looked at the sweet smelling, odd shaped objects that were in front of him in front of him. It had been several weeks since he had decent food and he had to admit that the Syll food did not smell like this.
"Hello. May I help you?" a voice as sweet as the scent broke his hungry trance. Shon found him self looking in the face of a very attractive older woman. He started to blush. "Uh I was smelling, I mean I was walking and I got hungry and I" he was flustered and the woman laughed. "You know it's been a while since I have had anyone to talk to since my Tashi left" She looked at him closely "and you look so much like him that it is scary. What's your name?" "Shon Yun." "Pleased to meet you I'm Mae." Rrrrrrrrrrr. His stomach rumbled loudly and his face turned beat red. "Oh my," she chuckled "it sound like you need something in your stomach. Why done you come inside and we'll find you something to eat." She opened the door beside the window and Shon walked in. "Have a seat I'll fix you something for that growling stomach of yours."
"Thank you." He looked around the humble house and saw pictures of someone that looked remarkably like him. It appeared to be her son. He immediately thought on Yun again. A half an hour went by and she made a spread that would have taken five large men a good at least an hour to polish off.
It took Shon fifteen minutes.
Mae stood speechless. Never had she seen some one eat so much so fast.
"This is Great!" Shon exclaimed with a semi full mouth. "Can I have some more?"
"Uh, sure. Let me get started on some more food," Mae replied looking at the seventeen empty dishes. This is going to be a long day.
"Thank you for the food, Mae it was delicious."
The day went on and Shon and Mae had a nice conversation and Shon went on his way. Mae was happy to have some company, although the young man did seem quite delusional. The first conversation I have had with a person in a while and it's a young man that claims to have come from another planet. I guess I had to humor him." OH MY GOD!"
A dish crashed to the floor as Mae saw that same young man on the on the news.
With a full stomach, Shon walked down the street looking at the different people and watching as they did their everyday chores. His attention was directed to shouting coming from the building. He looked up at the sign.
Shoten Kai Dojo.
Whatever a dojo is, it looks and sounds interesting.
A left punch was dodged and countered by a kick, knocking the attacker away to give him some breathing room. Ro stopped thought of his next move as his quicker much stronger opponent away. The sensei looked on as the students fought. His gaze was averted to the entrance to the training hall as a young man walked up a stood with a smile on his face.
One of the instructors approached Shon. "May I help you?"
"I would like to train with here."
"I see. What is your name?"
"Shon Yun."
"Well it is always good for someone to constantly learn however, our dojo is full right now."
"But you haven't even tested me yet. Isn't it customary for you to test someone wanting to enter and learn?" Shon was hoping their customs were no different from the Syll. He guessed right.
The instructor went to the sensei and whispered in his ear. The sensei then stood and held up his hand to stop the match. Ro and Kaji stopped and looked to the door, as did the rest of the students. Shon stood there Awaiting the word to proceed. He sensed two or three ki's that were strong but not as strong as he was used to dealing with, in fact the highest one was the sensei. Souja was stronger than these people are when we first fought. This is going to be easy but I have to be careful I don't want to hurt them like those robbers. But I must stay focused.
The sensei nodded to Shon and he walked to the center of the ring looked to all the students and then to the sensei and stood in a defensive stance.
There might not be much that I can teach this one. His stance is strong and his ki is higher than all the rest. The senior student stepped up and bowed to the sensei and readied him self for the match. This guy has a good stance. Let's see if he really wants to join us.
This guy has enough confidence to fill this building. I hope it doesn't cause him to make mistakes.
The hall was silent. "Begin!" the senior student went on the attack. His punches were the fastest rivaling the sensei in speed and strength. The newcomer easily dodged them. Kick. Dodge. Doubled up punch. Both were dodged. Shon dodged each skillful attack as if they were telegraphed. Is he reading me that easily? This is impossible! The sensei looked on with no sign of delight in his face even though he was impressed with this young man. This will cause a stir among the students if Dai loses. I should stop this. But I know Dai will get in a few shots.
Shon went on the attack but he used just enough speed and power to make his opponent rethink his actions. His attacks were fast but not to fast for Dai to block. Dai blocked several of the punches and was hit by a kick that sent him to the floor. He stood wiped rubbed his chin and smiled. He started another volley of attacks this time he switched his style up hoping to catch the newcomer off guard. Shon saw the change and adjusted his defense. The duel went on until Shon overextended a punch and was brought to his knees by an uppercut. The duel was over. Dai bowed to his sensei and looked to his defeated adversary with a superior look in his eye.
"Well done. What is your name, young man?"
"Shon Yun."
"You have a place here now." He looked to his first instructor and asked him to get Shon in his training gui.
As they left the hall, the instructor looked at Shon.
"You threw that fight didn't you? Why?"
Shon kept his surprise to himself and replied, "For the same reason that you don't stand as the head of this training place. You are stronger than the Sensei."
"But you are Stronger than all of us" Shon stopped. How could he know? "Why do you wish to train here?"
"Just to train and learn more. Even though I am strong I don't know everything."
"Fair enough. We are entering the Budoukai next month and you might be our representative."
"Budoukai?"
"A tournament where the most skilled fighters compete to see who is the best. I am sure you'll do well."
Shon smiled to himself. Maybe I will see one of the masters in action maybe, even compete against one.
"I look forward to it."
Two weeks passed and Shon gained popularity with the other students. This didn't sit too well with Dai. Seeing that he and Shon were evenly matched from the go, the sensei paired when they practiced holds and bars. Practice sessions got more intense as the Budoukai got closer.
Dai was sure he was to be the one to represent the Shoten Kai, after all he was the Junior champion for several years running and this new guy was not about to ruin his chances to compete this year. This new guy was older than he was and the others seemed to like him a little too much for his taste. All his life he was the best at everything, popular and respected by all he knew and this Johnny-come-lately was not about to screw his plans.
Shon was a little bored with this school. Although he liked the students, it was clear that they couldn't compete with him. This also included the self-centered senior that was constantly trying to make him look bad in front of the others. Even though Dai was stronger than the other students were, he didn't have one quarter the power that Shon had. It was now clear to Shon that he had to let Dai know just how weak he was.
Dai was thinking of a way to take Shon down in front of the others. He watched him meticulously during the last weak and found something he thought he could use to his advantage. He smiled as he looked to the balance trainer. Dai grinned evilly.
I've got him now.
With two Bo staffs in hand, Dai walked to Shon who was assisting two students with a kata. He smiled tossing Shon a Bo. "Let's go." Dai walked off Ro and Kaji looked at each other and both replied to the action. "Oh man." Shon looked at the two with a questioning look. "What?"
"Dai wants to challenge you and he's determined to win," Kaji answered. Ro promptly added, "Yeah. When he gets like that he's pretty tough to beat. This should be good." Shon sighed and followed Dai through the dojo to the balance trainer. Word spread like wildfire about the challenge. It had even reached the second sensei. As he reached the balance area it was beginning. This will be interesting.
"Dai, what's this about?"
"Just a friendly match" Dai jumped to a mid height pole and smiled, "Unless you're not up to it."
Shon smiled turned his back to the poles and backflipped to a pole that was five steps away from Dai. Cracking his knuckles, he stood on one foot holding his staff at the ready. Dai started in with series of well-placed shots attempting to make Shon lose balance. Shon blocked each one easily, never setting his other foot down. Dai next series of attacks were focussed on making Shon move and lose his footing. This was clear to Shon and the sensei. This guy has no clue; the sensei thought to him self as he watches Shon effortlessly parry the attacks by the senior student. The duel began to get heated. Dai started to speed his attacks. Shon placed his other foot down and started getting into the challenge. They moved atop the poles with the grace of dancers. Their movements were as beautiful as they were deadly. The students stood there with slacked jaws, amazed at the speed.
Shon and Dai seemed to be in another world as they dueled. With staff in his right hand, Dai lunged at Shon blocking his swing with his left forearm. Dai smiled evilly as he grabbed Shon's staff.
"Gotcha."
Pulling on both poles bringing Shon closer to him, Dai flipped kicked him in the chin. All those who stood there winced as at the strike. The next thing that happened was amazing to everyone. Shon was thrown back by the blow and was sure to fall to the ground. He maneuvered his body to where he could see the ground. He landed on his left foot, did a handspring, which vaulted him over several poles, landing with his right foot on a pole in the corner of the area. His balance was shaky. On instinct he let his tail loose and regained his balance. Placing his left foot on another pole, he stood ready for what was to come. Eyes were wide and staring at him. Dropping his staff, Dai stared at him in disbelief.
Shon stood smiling ready to beat him senseless. His stance relaxed as he looked at Dai. "What's wrong, Dai, you can't believe anyone is better than you?" He heard the murmurs of the students. He looked around to see that everyone was staring at him. He looked around to see what was wrong and notice in the water in the pond behind his that his tail was out. He then realized why they were looking at him. He remembered what the Syll did when he showed up with his tail out.
This is not good, not good at all.
He wrapped his tail around his waist and jumped down from the poles. The students gave him a wide berth as he passed them. His mood turned from playful to somber with each step. A menacing look came across his face as he turned to see all of them staring at him.
"Don't hate me because I am different. I was born with this and it will be a part of me until I die. If any of you want to try to hurt me then bring it on!" He stepped into a defensive stance as he finished his challenge to them. They all took a step back. None of them moved to accept his dare. The first sensei had no look of disdain or disgust on his face. He stood there watching the students waiting to stop any whom would attempt to fight him.
This is too sweet I knew they would react this way to his tail. Now its time for the kill. "I knew it!" Dai said as he landed on the ground. " I knew there was something wrong about you! And you dare to come in the dojo and make a mockery of it and us? Who do you think you are?" he walked up to Shon stepping into a ready stance. Dai swung at Shon with all his speed and strength. Shon caught his fist and looked at him with a look of contempt. He squeezed Dai's hand and balled up his other fist. As he swung his fist was caught in mid swing. Both of them felt a sharp blow to chest knocking both of them to the floor. Both of them recovered to see the first sensei standing between them.
The first sensei moved between the two of them with his hands spread wide between them. "You two know where to go for this." He looked at Shon and smiled. "This will not be fought here."
Smiling evilly, Shon looked at Dai "Let's go. Unless you are not up to it."
Dai walked past him with a smirk on his face. "This is going to be easy." "I couldn't agree more" Shon said as he exerted a little of his power as Dai walked by him. Dai Stopped in his tracks and trembled at the hint of the power.
As they wet to the main hall both Dai and Shon stood facing each other. Dai was unsure of himself now, but would not give up face to Shon again. He Stepped into a stance and waited for Shon to do the same. As Shon looked to the first sensei, he was wondering why he was not the head of the school.
Who does he think he is ignoring me like that? "HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" Dai charged in with his full speed and attacked Shon with a Flurry of punches. Though it may have been to fast, it looked like slow motion to Shon, who just dodged every kick and punch. With each dodge, he hit a spot on Dai's body that was covered by his technique and defense. They separated and Dai fell to his knees. Dai winced in pain, as he seemed to lose consciousness.
Shon walked to him squatted next to him lifting his face. "I could have taken you with one punch the first day we met. You never had a chance against me, you probably never will. Find me when you get stronger."
The students gave him a wide berth as he exited the ring. The only one that didn't move for him was the first sensei. He stopped next to him not looking away from the exit. "There is nothing more you can teach me here. No one here can even touch me, not even the sensei. You are the strongest here and I would like to test that strength one day."
The first sensei smiled, "We shall see. We shall see."
Near Mt. Paoz, the air was thick with energy. Thunder clapped continuously, echoing throughout the range.
There wasn't a cloud in the sky.
"KAAAAAAAA!"
Here it comes.
"MEEEEEEEEE! HAAAAAAAAA!"
All I have to do is hold on and block it.
"MEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
Goten stood his ground hoping to handle what was coming. He smiled evilly and waited for it.
"HAAAAAAAAAAA!"
A blinding flash of beam of energy rushed towards Goten. The young Saiyajin waited until the last moment to react. He phased out of the path of the huge Kamehameha wave. Hoping to catch his father off guard, he phased behind Gokou attempting to knock him to the ground. Goten's blow missed its mark as Gokou flipped and kicked him down to the ground. He fell to the ground catching landing on his hands and knees, leaving a crater.
He stood and blocked a kick and was sent flying again, as he wasn't ready to take the blow. He recovered and sat where he landed.
"Dad, this is too much. There is nothing out there that is going to hurt us and if there was you wouldn't let that happen."
"And that's why its up to you and Gohan to train as hard as I do. Plus, the Budoukai is coming up and I want you to do your best. You know if I compete Vegeta is gonna join in and he'll make Trunks compete to." "But nothing has happened in seven years," Goten complained, "and besides you promised me I could go and see Kaji and his sister today." Gokou had completely forgotten about going to the Shoten Kai Dojo and it would be nice to see his old Kuririn again seeing that he and No.18 did live in the city west of that village. "Good point. I guess we're done for the day." "YESS!"
"Come on. I'll race you back to the house." Goten powered up to Super Saiyajin level and shot off like a bullet. Gokou stood there for a full minute, knowing that Goten was a good distance away. Goten pushed a little more power and boosted his speed. He's not gonna beat me this time. He looked back to see his father hot on his trail. He gave a little more power to boost his sped to maximum. Looking ahead, he saw the mountain that Gohan punched him through. I'm almost there. Gokou blew past him leaving him to flail around in his wake. As Goten landed he saw his mother bringing wood out to the tub where they took baths after training.
"Goten, don't you even think about going in the house in that filthy training gi. Videl and I having guests and I am not cleaning up after you and your father."
"Yes, mother."
"Did you do, your homework?"
"Yes, mother."
"Good. Are you ready for your exam on Monday?"
"Yes, mother."
"I swear running around after you two every day is too much, I think I'm losing my mind."
"Yes, mother."
A chip of wood went flying catching Goten in the head. "I heard that!" Chi-Chi said as she tossed the wood on the fire.
Later that afternoon, Gokou and Goten arrived in Tam.
"I'll meet you at Kuririn's later on, dad. I won't be too long."
"Ok. I'll see you soon" Gokou flew towards the west to his friend's house. Walking into the town, Goten stopped in his tracks as he felt a high ki level. He thought nothing of it seeing that it was in coming from the direction of the Shoten Kai. Must be Nao. He strolled in to the town greeting all the people that he passed. As he got closer to the dojo, the ki he felt was higher than Nao's and possibly higher than his own was.
The closer he got, he got uneasy. What his dad said stuck out in his head.
There might be a day that I might not be around to stop the threat to our home. It will be up to you, Gohan and the others. I want you to do your best.
As he turned the last corner to enter the dojo, he saw the source of the power. A man just a little taller than him was leaving the dojo. He was taking off the gui top and walking out of the place. Goten stood in the doorway of the dojo with his arms crossed. He's not that strong. I can take him if he starts up, Goten thought as the stranger walked past him.
Shon walked past the young man at the door and got a spark. He stopped and looked at Goten. "Will you be in the Budoukai?"
Goten turned to face him. Sizing him up, this guy looked like he could handle himself. Still, Goten knew he could take him. "Wouldn't miss it," he replied with a confident smile on his face. "I'll see you there then. These people here can't hope to match me." Shon sized up the youngster. Incredibly strong for his size, could he be one of the masters? Cracking his Knuckles, Shon looked back at the crowd of students and the Sensei. "Maybe we can have a little match if the sensei will allow it."
"Goten!" Kaji ran up to his friend and Shon. "Hey, Kaji. What's up?" Goten replied, his eyes never left Shon's.
Sensing the tension between the two, Kaji pulled Goten away from Shon to talk to him. "Excuse us."
Kaji began to talk low so Shon couldn't hear him. "This guy is good. He whooped Dai like he stole something and it was fast." "That's nothing new my four year old niece could beat him, literally."
"Yeah but I think he give you a run for your money." "Really," he looked back at Shon who was waiting at he gate for an answer to his challenge, "well we'll just have to see then wont we."
He walked back to the gate past the waiting challenger. "Nao, can I spar with this guy?" Finally, a challenge for Shon, this should be interesting. "Be all means."
Kuririn was lying in a hammock resting after playing with his daughter. No.18 sat leaning against the tree reading a book listening to their daughter play with the huge dog that was given to her on her fifth birthday.
"Kuririn, are you going to enter the Budoukai this year?"
" Not if Gokou is entering. You know when he enters Vegeta will enter and I can't compete with them. I never could. Besides you and Picolo are the only ones that have a chance of competing against them. Goten and Trunks are easy to beat but Gokou and Vegeta are a whole different thing all together."
"But Gokou would be disappointed of you didn't compete. Right, Gokou?"
"Gokou!?" Kuririn opened his eyes and sat up too fast and rolled out of the hammock right onto his face. He sat up to see his old friend standing there chuckling. "Hiya!" Gokou greeted his childhood friend and his wife. "How long were you standing here?"
"Long enough. What's the good word?"
"Rest."
They both laughed. "I take it you are entering the Budoukai this year, huh?" "Well, that's a given isn't it? I enter every time it comes around but this time I won't leave. Ubuu is competing and knows how to use his power now, so it will be fun to bee just how good he has gotten since I trained him. Gohan isn't going to let pan defend her title seeing that she has started school. Chi-Chi and Videl both want her to grow up like a normal little girl but I think that is going to be hard for her. Seeing that she's a Saiyajin and she still doesn't know how to hide her power. The children might be scared of her. I think she should stay at home until she is at least eight. But the women both think that it's unhealthy for her to not have friends at an early age."
"Well, that about Bra?" No. 18 inquired, not looking up from her book. "That's what I said. But they said that she needs more than one friend and that may be true, she needs to learn to hide her power. Both Gohan and Videl are too busy to train her and I have been training Goten. I can train them both but Chi-Chi wants her to learn to be a little girl."
"I see her point," Kuririn commented. "How's Goten's training coming along?"
"Fine, but he's preoccupied and lazy. I don't think he'll beat Trunks this time around if he doesn't get serious and train. You know Vegeta isn't slacking up on his training. Speaking of Goten, he should be here in a little while. He went into town to visit a few friends."
No. 18 looked up from her book towards the town. Both Kuririn and Gokou were stopped in mid thought.
They sensed high ki levels. Gokou concentrated and to see if he recognized the ki patterns.
One of them is Goten, who is the other one?
