Name: Subaru Ryoko
The tough chick and leader of the Aestivalis three.
Ryoko appears in the series in episode 4 as one of the three Aestivalis pilots for the Nadesico. A tad more sane than her counterparts Maki Izumi and Amano Hikaru, Ryoko is the leader of the bunch and very tough in battle. Her cockiness shines through in battle as she gets into the battle head first.
Her relationship with the others isn't very strained, but she is indeed somewhat the odd one out on a ship of cute girls because she doesn't flash herself as so. The only one that actively did not participate in the idol singer contest, she did not want to (feel like) showing off her femininity. Her power lies in being masculine and tough. She obviously glows as a warrior.
Outside the plug suit, she is a shy young woman. Even in her Aestivalis, she is porne to blushing under the taunts of her fellow pilots, Izumi and Hikaru.
The reason for these taunts: Tenkawa Akito. Saw that one coming, didn't you? Nah, since the beginning, Ryoko developed a habit of screaming out "Tenkawa!" whenever in battle, particularly when she needed backup. Almost instantly, her cockpit is filled with pop-up windows of Izumi and Hikaru, with lecherous looks in their eyes, mocking her. "Tenkawa...Tenkawa...."
She is always the first to yell at all of the others (Izumi, Hikaru, Akito, and Nagare) when upset, but this is only during battle. She also rather scary in her aggressive actions in battle, like in "Femininity is Scary", ep. 10 or so.
Outside the Aestivalis, she isn't the yelling spitfire she is fighting. She actually joins the chase for Akito in "Femininity is Scary" when, along with Yurika and Megumi, she made some really bad (but made with love) food for Akito to enjoy. She was hurt by Akito's comments of the beauty and femininity of the contestants of the idol contest, but by the end, he complements her concerning what she does have over the others, the ability to fight.
Just like the other runner-ups for Akito's heart, she realizes that
Yurika is for Akito and hopes they are happy. She agreed with Erina
that they never really had a chance.
