Come on, you!

Episode-by-Episode Nadesico

Episode One

Basic Plot:
The Nadesico, one year after the 1st major assault on Mars, is ready to be launch out of its underwater hanger (where else are you going to keep a heavy starship during construction?).  Its parent company, Negral (hint: Babylonian god of fire), send out Prospector and Gort Holy to gather up the "loons" (a term that is used here with love, I assure you) that will commandeer this vessel.  Once the first crewmembers are assembled, the battleship arises from its liquid home to stop the Jovian Lizards trying to get at it first.

Loony Scenes:
-Akito's several encounters with Yurika's luggage and underwear
-Hell, EVERY encounter with Yurika should be labeled as potential laughter fodder, such as Yurika's constant implications that Akito loves her, despite of Akito's protests and dismay.
-Admiral Misumaru's pride over Yurika's physical development is too much...
-Gai and his utter fanaticism with Genkigander III (which is also the cause of his broken leg so early into the show)

Scenes to Remember (such as, real cool, real important to plot, firsts in the storyline, and other things to keep in mind as you make your way through the series):
-Ruri, when "recuited" by Negral, was not asked.  The people Prospector showed the suitcase (full of cash) controlled Ruri's life.  Ruri was "bought", to put it rather bluntly, thus making her more like a piece of "hardware" to be hooked up with the ship's computer, Omoikane (hint: Big Money).
-Remeber Ai, the little girl Akito knew on Mars.  Akito does.  She is the reason why Akito doesn't want to fight anymore.
-The old admiral, Jin Futube, on the ship is also the one at Mars one year before.  Don't forget!
-Seiya did not read the contract, remember?  He just wants to leave his home so that his wife would stop henpecking him.  I thought she was rather nice despite the fact Seiya was constructing an illegal robot in the garage.  Not reading the contract, however, will come to haunt him.

Episode Two: Entrust Green Earth to Us

Basic Plot:
The Nadesico did an excellent job in getting rid of a huge chunk of Jovian Lizards in its first battle.  So impressive was its strength, in fact, that the Earth Forces (a.k.a. the REAL military) wants the Nadesico for its purposes and attacks it.  Meanwhile, Akito tells Yurika that his parents died on Mars years back.  Yurika, once the chance opens up, head to Misumaru (Dad), who is in charge of taking the Nadesico.  The battleship, of course, doesn't change hands because it is owned by a civilian (Negral) and once again shows its might by blowing up a Tulip from the inside.

Loony Scenes:
-The Nadesico is turned on and off with a wind-up key.
-Yurika's belief of what Akito means by "killing her" (hint: sleazy and lustful...?)
-Gai forcing Akito to cry out the name of their maneuver (Cross Crash?)
-Akito being whacked by a skillet
-Yurika walking in on Akito as he's trying to put on his underwear
-Gai's and Akito's total enthusiasm while watching Genkigander III while the rest fend off sleep.

Scenes to Remember:
-Akito's flashback of his parent's death is an important thing to remember, so keep it in the back of your mind.  His parents were scientists and the death was pretty violent.  Also remember how Ad. Misumaru hesitated (and did not say anything about the incident) when his daughter asked him about the incident.
-The Nadesico's main goal is to go to Mars and fight the Lizards there.  This is the main cause of bad blood between them and the military.  One must also include that fact that a civilian/corporation, and not the military, has the most advance weapon to use against the bad guys.  Bad blood is not good.

Episode Three-Too Early for Goodbye

Basic Plot:
The Nadesico now finds itself up against the EF.  Why?  Because they want to get on their way, but the military, in order to protect against Tulips and stuff getting to Earth every minute, has set up something called "Big Barrier", which lets nothing in.  When the military refuses to let Big Barrier down for kimonoed Yurika and th Nadesico, well, they'll just have to make it come down, even if it means fighting and blasting through even a former ally.

Loony Scenes:
-Gai's switcheroo plan drawn out in crayon
-Gai being surrounded by the enemy (they looked like sharks right then), all the while laughing at the situation.
-Seiya's cold-shoulder treatment on one who ignores others (Gai)
-Yurika addressing the EF for permission to let down the "Big Barrier".  She calls them "gaijin" (foreigners) and claims that all they would want is a pretty girl in a kimono, for goodness sake.
-Gai's happiness in placing Genkigander seals on his mecha for each bad guy he took down
-Akito's and Gai's cry-fest when they watch together ep. 27 of Genkigander III

Scenes to Remember:
-The way Jun acted because of his love for Yurika was, like, wow.  First he wanted to fight in order to make sure she stays on Earth, where its safe, then he is more than willing to sacrifice his life to save her.  I want him just because of this episode.  He truly loves that ditz.
-Also, Akito's and Jun's reconciliation is touching.  Their heart-to-heart during and after the fight gives some insight in both of their motives for fighting, as well as Jun's affection for Yurika.  Too bad she doesn't get it, right?
-Ep. 27 of Genkigander III plays in the background (as sound) or is replayed through the end of the Ep. 3 of Nadesico, in particular, when Gai gets shot.  The fact that they show Joe's (from Genkigander) death scene as Gai himself dies is heart-wrenching in a way.  Watch for more times when a particular episode that a Nadesico crewmember watches has some connection to the action in Nadesico.  Gai!!!!  Joe!!!!!  Oh, oh, what's more (insight here!!!), there's a rule of three here.  Gai is only with us (living) for three episodes.  His big moment (battle-wise) is when the Nadesico reachs the 3rd defense line.  And, of course, there's Genkigander III, of which ep. 27 (or 3x9, or 3x3x3x3) is an important element.
-More bad blood between the military and the Nadesico.  The military really doesn't like them, do they?
-The mecha crews where hovering around a poster board labelled "Beauty Contest" in one shot during the episode.  Although it only contained four faces (Minato, Megumi, Yurika, and Ruri), it will grow as more ladies join the crew and will finally come to a climax in the episode surrounding the idol singer contest.

Episode Four: Longing in Aqua Colored Space

Basic Plot:
After the death of Gai, Akito becomes the only one that feels upset over the entire thing.  Sure, Yurika tries to console him, but she didn't have much luck with that.  Megumi also becomes rather upset when the Nadesico was making contact with a space station where they were to pick up the other three pilots, Ryoko, Hikaru, and Izumi, as well as the Zero-G frames for the Aestivalis.  She was to one to hear the radio controller just as the enemy attacked, thus making her blue.  Despite his sorrow and his utter lack of knowledge when it came to flying the space version of the mecha, he saves the day again, and, much Yurika's sadness, celebrates with a kiss with Megumi.

Loony Scenes:
-The new pilots-Ryoko, Hikaru, and Izumi.  The first is a hard-core fighter, the second a "proffessional otaku" complete with her own fanzine, and the third lives for puns, word-plays and really bad jokes.  More nuts for the barrel.
-Hikaru falling down on Akito, crying over Joe's death part of the time, giggling and bouncing all anime-like the rest of the time.
-Izumi.  'nuff said.
-Akito floating and zooming through space like a "baka".
-Yurika trying to discuss her dilemna to Seiya and How Mei, how are really not paying attention.

Scenes to Remember:
-Akito's and Megumi's tender moments together are but the beginning of the expansion of our little love polygon.  To recap: Yurika loves Akito.  Jun love Yurika.  Megumi loves Akito.  Yurika claims Akito loves her.  Akito just want to be left alone by Yurika and has connected with Megumi.  He loves them both.
-Here's another addition-the three lady pilots.  Izumi is, of course, out of the running for Akito.  She, like Minato, is too old for it all.  Besides, she's a little off her rocker to begin with.  Hikaru, although super-nice, isn't interested in Akito either.  Her heart heads another way.  Ryoko, however, ends up as another contender for Akito.  She first develops respect for him, of course.  A few more episodes to go before she actually enters the running.
