Here are some of the things that interest me:
- Reading - I have always loved reading, thanks to my parents. From short stories to novels to texts, plays, and poetry. I usually go for science fiction, fantasy, techno-thrillers, mystery, as well as nonfiction.
- Poetry - With regards to poetry, I am awed by the way poets like Longfellow and Byron capture and distill the essence of an experience or emotion. Here are some examples of the richness and sheer imagery of that experience.
- Music - I usually listen to jazz, R&B, pop, and songs that were hits before I was even thought of. I believe in the idea that jazz broadens one's mind and classical music helps too.
- The Environment - I am an environmentalist (or so I call myself) with a genuine love for the Earth. I have always enjoyed walking through trees or a garden which gives me a refreshing feeling of calmness. Not many people are aware that one doesn't have to be an influential person or a public official to make a difference for the environment. Whatever one does affects the environment which ultimately will affect everybody whether good or bad. Eventually, one will realize that we are all in this together and the time to act is now.
- Sports - The sport I engage in nowadays is badminton. I own a mountain bike but it has been a while since I last used it. I do play table tennis, volleyball, and bowling but it has been quite some time since I have done so. I also like chess but I guess my "look ahead" isn't quite far enough. I never could see those gambits and combinations until too late. I am a novice hiker and have gone on hikes with friends and have camped overnight on several occasions in the mountains here.
- Programming - I got into programming as a pastime during college. Now, I program for a living using the Visual C++ programming language.
- BattleTech - Several years ago, my friend gave me a starter set of the Battletech CCG (Wizards of the Coast) as a present. Since then I have followed the development of the game through all its expansions. I guess you could say I know something about it. I have joined the DCI-sanctioned tournaments here although they weren't that many. I am sad that WotC decided to kill the game despite its following.
- Photography - I got myself an SLR camera and now trying to shoot a few good ones. I also have a digital camera for taking snapshots. I hope I can bag one soon.
