Not
quite clear on what this Ranma 1/2 stuff is, read on and find out what
all the buzz is about:
Ranma
1/2 is by Rumiko Takahashi, also known for other works as Urusei Yatsura
and Masion Ikkoku.
Ranma 1/2 starts out simple enough. A panda is chasing a red-haired
pig-tailed girl a down the street in the rain. Is it a pet? Wild animal
attack? Nope, it's his father. That panda and girl
are really father and son. It seems the two took an unfortunate dunk in
the cursed springs of Jusenkyo. Ranma, the boy who can turn into a red
haired pig-tailed girl, fell in the Nyannichuan, the spring of drowned
girl. His father, Genma Saotome, can now turn into a panda because he fell
in Shonmaoniichuan, spring of drowned panda. You see Jusenkyo is full of
these springs where something has drowned. So, if you fall in one you will
turn into whatever drowned there by simply getting splashed with cold water.
Hot water turns you back to normal. Such is the case with Ranma and Genma.
But Ranma's problems don't stop there. His father, who won't be winning
any father of the year awards, has gotten him a fiancee. Ranma's been engaged,
without his consent, to Akane Tendo, the youngest daughter of Genma's old
friend, Soun Tendo. He thinks Akane is an uncute, short-tempered, and a
total tomboy. Akane is also against the engagement. She thinks Ranma is
immature, idiotic, and a pervert. Poor Ranma, an uncute fiancee and turning
into a girl at the slightest splash of cold water. I guess he could handle
it if he didn't have girls and guys trying to kill him and kiss him. But
if he didn't it just wouldn't be as fun.
So far I've just given you a snippet of Ranma 1/2. I can't possibly summarize
the whole anime or manga. I tried and I got about eight pages written.
If you haven't seen it, go out and rent it. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
