ROTU stands for Reserved Officer Training Unit, or more commonly known as PALAPES. ROTU's objectives are to train and nurture young army officers among universities and institutes under graduates. ROTU's members are called Cadet Officers and they are devided into 3 levels and those are Junior Company, Intermediate Company and Senior Company.

Every cadets will and must undergo military training . Above all, if one is to survive in ROTU one must have a tough mental and patience. All cadets are trained under termendous amount of pressure. Those who survive until the senior level will be honoured and commisioned by the Yang Di Pertuan Agong as 2nd Leutenant in the "Regimen Askar Wataniah" and more commonly known as Young Officer.

ROTU trains cadets to maintain discipline and order at all time. Cadets are also trained to make appreciations (fast or well-planned) and to give and maintain orders to their subordinates. In addition, cadets are trained to minimize their resources, optimize their opportunities, do it once and do it right.

All together there are 7 universities and 1 institution that offer ROTU program to their students and the number of applicants are increasing every year. Military knowledge is important not only for discipline but it could also be applied in both jobs and studies.
