Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne

My favorite chapter of Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne is number 16 (the second chapter featuring Zen). First, some background info! Jeanne, the reincarnation of Joan of Arc, is actually Maron transformed. Sinbad is actually Chiaki, who happens to love Maron. Both of them are trying to trap evil demons into chess pieces but Jeanne works for Light and Sinbad works for Darkness. It just so happens that Zen, Maron's friend, is possessed. Chapter 16 starts off with Sinbad trying to defeat Jeanne in order to "Checkmate" Zen.

Jeanne uses her ribbon to slice a row of Sinbad's pins, then smacks him in the face with a fan. As they continue to battle, Noir (the Dark Knight who loves Jeanne only because she is the reincarnation of Joan of Arc) casts a spell over Zen in order to control his soul. Zen wakes up... "super-possessed." (his eyes are freaky!) Jeanne screams for Sinbad to stop and at that moment, Finn (Jeanne's little angel friend) warns her to look out behind. Zen shoots some energy balls at her, then blasts her into the wall! She's halfway knocked out, bloody and crying on the floor as Sinbad readies a pin to "Checkmate" Zen.

Right before the pin hits its mark, Jeanne moves in the way splattering blood all over the floor. Zen remembers all the times Maron helped him and breaks out of the spell... he calls out for her and she turns to him. At that moment, Sinbad (that bastard!) throws another pin and yells "Checkmate!" He hurriedly escapes and Jeanne is left screaming for Zen. In great pain, Zen kisses her and tells her how much she means to him.... and with his last breath begs her to let him see her smile on more time. Jeanne removes the ribbon from her hair, and the last thing Zen sees is Maron smiling above him like and angel. The next scenes is Chiaki in the shower realizing he had lost the one girl he truly loved... The chapter ends with Maron crying in the rain, then fainting into darkness.

The images that accompany the chapter explanation are my property, but they are based on images from the Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne manga by Arina Tanemura. The chapter explanation is in my own words (that's why it sounds so... weird) 1
