ARK ROYAL  CLASS BATTLE CARRIER

The Ark Royal class battle carrier is a powerful element in the fleets of the UN spacy. It is cost effective and  versatile because it is unable to transform into humanoid form. However this does not hinder it's many capabilities as it remains one of the most powerful combet vessels in the UN spacy fleet. The carriers are frequently used as flagships of UN spacy fleets on patrol assignments and of fleets that has no reqirement of the massive firepower of the Battle section of the New Macross class colony ships. It also has the ability to link onto civilian or non combat vessels and thereby acting as the command node for the combined starship and thus providing valuable defense and offensive capabilities as well as a range of optionsfor it's utility.

True to the form of aircarft carriers, it's main offence and defence weapons are it's variable fighter squadrons. It can carry approximately 400 variable fighters and is fitted with superior communications and sensor network which provides an ideal command and communications centre for a fleet of UN spacy ships. It can easily plot and direct its own fighter squadrons onto hostile forces and this ability can easily extend to include a proportion of the fleets fighters allowing for co-ordinated attack and defence. It's only weakness is it's lack of long range and powerful weapons.  It has the usual compliment of missile launchers (heavy & medium) and point defense lasers, and these weapons are only suitable for use against enemy mecha. The pinpoint barrier system provide a formidable defense against attack enabling the carrier to survive for a period of time in a melee battle. Should the carriers find themselves without their fighter squadrons for a long time it would prove difficult for them to escape destruction.
