Tony Leung Chiu Wai was born in Hong Kong June 27th 1962. He joined the TVB Actor Training Class at the age of 19. A few month after, he made his first appearance in a tv series "Young Heroes" as a Shaolin Monk. In 1981, he became part of the children show "430 Spaceshuttle" and also acted in some other series. In 1984, he signed a five year contract with Tvb. In 1985 he started his first film called "Young Cops". In 1986 his performance in "The Lunatics" was highly praised. Later on, he was nominated for the Best Actor Award of the Hong Kong Film Awards for "Love Unto Waste". In 1987, he recieved the Best Supporting Actor Award for "People's Hero". In 1988, he played a role in "I love Maria". He recieved the Best Supporting Actor Award again in 1989 for his performance in "My Heart is That Eternal". In the same year he was nominated the Best Supporting Actor of the Golden Horse Awards for "Seven Warriors" and "City of Sadness". In 1991, he participated in 7 films among which the results of "A Chinese Ghost Story 3" was the best. In 1992, he acted in two films "Hard Boiled" and "Days of Being Dumb". In 1993, he played roles in 8 films and made five music records in Taiwan. In 1994, he acted in five films. His performance in "Chung King Express","Doctor Mack" and "Heaven Can't Wait" attracted much more attention. He acted in only two films in 1996 and three films in 1997 including "Happy Together" by which Wong Kar Wai won the Best Director Award in Cannes. Tony was nominated The Best Actor Award of Cannes for this film. 1
