So, you're a webpage owner? Here's some tips for promoting and getting people to like your site!
Credits Pages
If you borrow ANYTHING from ANYBODY, make a credits page. DO NOT STEAL IDEAS OR IMAGES!! I got the idea for the mysteries from a fellow webpage owner. I asked if I could use the idea, then linked the original. I'm talking images like fanart, web graphics, etc. Stealing ideas comes most personal. Don't take something someone else thought of first, it'll ruin the person's day. Be nice, momma told ya not to steal, that applies for webpages too.
Appreciation
If you come to a site you really really like, take time to sign the guestbook and tell them that. Give them an award if you think it's necessary. So many great pages get so little feedback. The webmasters lose the need to update and continue if they feel their page isn't appreciated. Plus, if you do, it'll make their day. Send kind words to your fav sites, because if you don't, you can't guarantee someone else will. Next time your try to visit, it might not be there.
Winning awards!
Okay, this goes along with the above. Sign up for awards. It makes ya feel good if ya win. My suggestion though, sign up for the hardest one given and don't sign up for too many. Signing up for easiest is like forcing them to give you an award. Like the person is pitying your site. Plus, it makes you try to make your page better. A site with many easy awards seems to annoy me. A site with many hard awards impresses me a lot. Don't settle for the bronze when with a little work you could get the gold.
Giving awards
Don't give awards for pity. Make your awards pretty hard to win. Why should you give a site an award that you wouldn't bookmark? Awards are to praise sites. Don't praise one without liking the site. It's a bad reflection on your site itself. Sure, you're being nice. It's like the old preschool proverb "you can't bring candy unless everyone gets a piece". And always tell people why they didn't win. If they don't win awards and never find out what's wrong, how can they be expected to improve? Giving out empty awards gives no need to make better Sailor Moon webpages. Webmasters, it starts with you.
Promoting your site
Guestbooks
Sign guestbooks (starting with mine)! Nothing makes a fellow webmaster want to visit your site like signing in their guestbook. Tell them to sign yours to complete the circle. Be extremely nice and don't smash their page in the guestbook. That's common sense, but thought I'd mention that.
Link exchanges & Webrings
These things are great, but don't join too many. Most webrings require you to put their fragment on your main page. That can clutter it up. Stick to one or two. Choose relatively small ones (not like the Sailor Moon Ring of Power with a LOT of members). You're more likely to come up when the surfer presses the random button. Try ones with 50 members or around there.
Web searches
Register your website with all the major search engines based on what it's about. Also, be sure to register with specialized searches such as Anime Pitstop and Anime Turnpike. People looking for anime come there, plus they have less links in them than a search like Webcrawler or Yahoo, so they'll more likely pick your site
Asking fellow webmasters to link you
This is a great way. Most pages have very little links. Once people are done with the page they're at, they go to that page's links. Then they'll go to yours and be forever addicted ^_^ Also, be sure to link that person's page in return. Tell them that you'll link they're banner if they link yours (banners are more likely to get chosen than a text link)
Sister Sites
Get a site that is your "sister site". Basically, it's a link that you hold on your main page and suggest your visitors go there. Most people do this with a friend or a page which is similar to theirs. But what I think is a good idea is to make a totally different type of page your sister site. So all they need about Sailor Moon lies within your two pages. Such as if you have a multimedia site (sounds and movies) make your sister site a picture gallery. Also, only have ONE sister site. It sounds dumb if you have more than one
Banners & Buttons
Banners and buttons are both musts. Banners can be used in people's guestbooks for a more flashy guestbook entry. Buttons are good if a person wants to save space and memory in their link page when linking you. Using banners that are 400x60. Those are standard for many things. If you're reading this and want a banner, e-mail me. Since you've read this through (arigatou!), I'll make you a banner. Do not tell others that this is here. It's only for people who read my tips. Plus, I'll automatically link your site with the banner I make. This is a present for reading this. It's only for a limited time since a lot of people might read this ^_^ Who knows? Anyway, use banners with only one or two characters on it. Too many looks too busy. Only put your webpage title on it, the URL can crowd the banner too.
