FASCINATION CASTS A SPELL

~Part 9~

All this is like deja vu, thought Darren. Yeah, just like that day. The day he was thinking about was barely a week ago, when everyone discovered Daniel's singing power. Daniel had remarked that he didn't feel like exploring his ability, and that he thought everyone was using him. He was far from wrong then.

Dammit, why didn't I realise it earlier? Darren thought angrily. He looked deep into Daniel's eyes and instead of sparkle and glee, he saw pools of sorrow, hatred and anger. He had never seen Daniel this...angry, this...mad. The overwhelming emotion in all this silence reminded him of a song he and Daniel wrote a while back...

"More than angry words, I hate this silence, it's getting so loud," sang Darren softly, getting Daniel's attention. "Well, I wanna scream, but bitterness has silenced these emotions, it's getting hard to breathe..." Indeed it was, as Darren was all choked up in tears.

"Darren, what's wrong?" asked a concerned Daniel, softly comforting Darren, who was resting on his shoulder.

"Everything!" replied Darren, trying in vain to stop crying. "The way you're feeling...the way I'm reacting...the way we're acting towards you...nothing seems to make sense anymore!"

"Don't worry Darren, it's not your fault," said Daniel. Darren shook his head in disagreement.

"It IS my fault!" said Darren. "You did say I treated you the worst...treating you as a slave...uncontrollable thinking...it's all my fault!"

"Look, Darren, I'm sorry I said that," said Daniel. "I didn't really mean it. I was just so angry all these images of rage took over my senses. I'm sorry."

"The one's who really sorry is all of us," replied Darren. "We're sorry. For using you. For making you feel that the only think we liked about you was your powers. For...for causing you all this trauma. Daniel, we're sorry. We really are. At least I am. Please...please forgive us...if not me, them...please!" This time it was Daniel's turn to be silent.

"Oh...oh all right, I forgive you," said Daniel, breaking the silence. "Will you forgive me for saying all those hateful words to you...and pushing you down this morning...and everything else?"

"Consider it done," replied Darren. "Are we still friends?"

"Whoever said we weren't?" said Daniel, smiling. "Here, let me give you a back rub." Darren refused at first - he didn't want Daniel to accuse him of using him again - but after a while (and loads of insistence by Daniel) he gave in. Darren slipped into total relaxation as he felt Daniel's soft hands flowing above his t-shirt-covered skin, like a feather.

"Oh, it's sure good to have a friend just like you," said Darren as he tried not to doze off.

"It sure is," agreed Daniel, who then gently kissed Darren's cheek, making him shoot up in surprise.

"Whoa, Daniel, what was that for?" asked Darren.

"For being a cool friend," replied Daniel. "Besides, I am trying to fulfill part of your daydream...too bad I ain't the most gorgeous girl on Earth!" Darren just smirked and pretended to punch Daniel.

"Oh shut up, Dan..."
