"Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Jones - you have just become parents to a bouncing baby boy!"
Chardina and Daniel were elated. The newly-weds have always wanted to start a family, and this was their dream come true. The baby boy was so angelic...so sweet...everything a parent could wish for. But, for every good thing there is a price to pay, and the price for this baby wasn't very affordable.
"Mrs. Jones, you do know there's a possibility of...death...don't you?" asked the doctor, slightly hesitant. "There were complications in your pregnancy."
"I do know, Doc," replied Chardina. "But I'm willing to risk my life just as long as this baby lives...I have lived a long life, his has just started...he deserves to live more than I do..." Tears fell from her eyes, lovingly wiped away by Daniel's soft hands. Daniel, though, couldn't stop crying himself.
"Well, I'll leave you with the baby - I'll be back for a medical examination on the mother," said the doctor, and left. Chardina couldn't stop but admire her newborn child.
"Chardina...my love...are you really going to die?" asked Daniel. He couldn't believe his beloved wife would leave this world soon.
"It's a fact I can't deny," replied Chardina. "It has become my turn...my time...I am so sorry, Daniel..."
"It wasn't your fault," said Daniel, barely holding back his tears. "Any last wishes, my love?"
"Just two," replied Chardina. "Promise me you would name our child Darren..."
"I promise," said Daniel. "What would be the other one?" Chardina reached over to her bedside table and pulled out a bunch of envelopes.
"Give these one by one to Darren on his birthday," said Chardina, giving the envelopes to Daniel. "Give the last one on his eighth birthday...please, promise me this..."
"I promise, from the bottom of my heart," said Daniel. Chardina smiled and slumped back onto her bed, making Daniel worried.
"Chardina? CHARDINA! Wake up!" said Daniel worriedly, shaking his beloved wife. He pressed the 'Emergency' button over his wife's bed - soon the doctor came running. After a few tests, the doctor came up with the morose results.
"I'm sorry Mr. Jones...she just died of heart problems...I'm really sorry..."
