Darren just couldn't take life without your father. Your father was like a soulmate to Darren...his best friend, his confidant, his musical partner. Darren was virtually grieving.
All was quiet at Darren's home in California. It's been a month since Daniel left, and Darren had received no word from him. He was all alone im his room - until Leonie walked in.
"Darren, are you all right?" asked Leonie, gently rubbing Darren's shoulders. Darren merely shook his head.
"Daniel's been gone for ages...God, I miss him so..." said Darren. The memory of Daniel still lingered on in his mind. "I wonder what he's doing now..."
"He's probably getting ready for his wedding," said Leonie. She herself didn't know what Daniel and her sister were up to.
"They're probably married by now," replied Darren. "He and Chardina are probably on their honeymoon right now, at some resort at some obsure island in the Pacific ocean...boy are they lucky..."
"They can't be married if they didn't invite us to their wedding!" retorted Leonie. "Look, I'm Chardina's sister, I should know when she's getting married. Now I have no idea what's going on with her!"
"They probably forgot all about us by now," replied Darren. "Daniel's happy with his new life - why should he care about US anymore?" Leonie could sense that Darren was unhappy.
"Look, Darren, I know you miss Daniel a lot - I do too," conforted Leonie. "Why don't you talk about it, with me?" Darren was hesitant at first, but soon poured his heart out on Leonie.
"Gosh, Daniel was such a great guy," said Darren, lying on Leonie's lap. "He's the one who gave me my big break...if it wasn't for him, I might not be speaking to you today..."
"You guys gave me my big break as well," said Leonie. "If you weren't around, I won't have anyone to publicise - I might still be Mr. Woodruff's secretary!"
"Always glad to help," replied Darren, smiling. "You know, that Daniel helped me get through rough times...like the time I was in a car accident...and when me and Colby separated...he was there for me to cry on..."
"He was there for me too," continued Leonie. "Oh, of all the countless times he has helped me through my adversity...he truly is an angel..." Darren nodded in agreement.
"I know this might make me sound like I'm gay - which I'm not," said Darren, "but I love Daniel. I really do. He's my best friend. He's everything anyone could wish for. No-one else can outdo him, not ever."
"I love him too," said Leonie. "If only he was back..."
"Back with Savage Garden," said Darren. "All the fans know our second album was our last. They're depressed, Leonie, all of them. It's just so unfair!"
"Life never was fair, Darren," said Leonie. "Maybe it's just God's way of making us appreciate what we have...you did say you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye!"
"So I did," said Darren, rising from Leonie's lap. "Thanks for talking to me, Leonie - I really needed it." He gave Leonie a big hug and softly kissed her lips, much to Leonie's surprise.
"Always glad to help," said Leonie, walking away from Darren's room. Darren sat quietly on his bed, reminiscing about the days of Savage Garden's glory.
"Oh Daniel...please come back..."
Darren did love your father - a lot. Everyday he would think about him...what he did, the moments together, the fun times with Savage Garden...it made me feel so guilty knowing I've stolen something from Darren.
