DARRLINA: It's night-time...time to pull out the old diary! (pulls out drawer and removes diary and pen) (reads out while writing) "Dear Diary, today was my first day at Santa Monica. It was also my first day out of Australia. I had a tour of Santa Monica this afternoon and I must say it was very beautiful. The people here are rather quiet but I'm sure to find some new friends here." DARRLINA: "As I was walking through the streets, I noticed that most of the shops were playing the same song on their radios. I asked one shopkeeper what it was and he told me that it was their town's unofficial anthem. The song was titled `Santa Monica` and it's by Savage Garden. I have heard of Savage Garden before - they're a huge hit back home in Australia. `Santa Monica` was a good song and lucky for me the same shopkeeper taught me the words. I now have it playing in my head over and over." (sings `Santa Monica` while writing down lyrics in diary) DARRLINA: "Tomorrow is my first day at school. It's named Future Of Earthly Delites and it's just a short bus ride from here. I am an off-campus student - I don't stay at the school hostel. My cousin managed to get me an apartment here and I live my life with my scholarship money. I can't wait for school to start - wonder who I'll meet there? Until next time, Darrlina." (puts back diary and pen) Well, gotta get up early for tomorrow...can't wait to see how my college looks like! (lies down on bed and goes to sleep)
(alarm bell goes off)DARRLINA:(wakes up drowsily and looks at clock) Oh my...8 o'clock ALREADY? Aargh! I'm almost late! (gets up from bed, grabs school bag and rushes out from apartment towards bus stop)

DARRLINA:(gets off bus, looks at watch) Thank god I'm early...(looks up) Wow...it's so beautiful! But I'll better hurry for the orientation lecture at 8.30...(enters college)

DARRLINA:(leafing through pamphlets) Hmm...the lecture is at the meeting room...but where's that? There's no map here...hey, maybe someone can help! (sees Danielle and runs up to her) DARRLINA: Excuse me, where is the meeting room? DANIELLE: Meeting room? Oh, just turn left and keep on walking until you see a door with a picture of Julius Caesar on it. That's the meeting room. DARRLINA: Julius Caesar? DANIELLE: Yeah...you know, `friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears`...but why do you want to go there? According to what I heard, there's nothing going on there today! DARRLINA: Well, I'm a new student actually...I'm supposed to be there in about 5 minutes for the orientation lecture...what's it about anyway? DANIELLE: New student? (Darrlina nods) Oh no wonder! Well, the lecture is more about where everything in the school is, which classes you're going to, the rules, that kind of thing. Well, you'll better get going - they don't like latecomers! DARRLINA: Okay, thank you...err, what's your name? DANIELLE: Danielle. Welcome to FOED, by the way! DARRLINA: FOED? DANIELLE: Our nick for the college...Future Of Earthly Delites. What's your name? CLASS: Hi Darrlina! Nice to meet you! STUDENT 1: Welcome to the English Language and Literature class of FOED! DARRLINA: Thank you! Nice to meet you too! (laughs) DANIELLE: Our class consists of a wacky bunch of people...(to class) But who's the wackiest? CLASS: STANLEY!!! STANLEY: Did anyone call me? DANIELLE: We did! Come here and introduce yourself! STANLEY: Introduce myself? To who? You? (class laughs) DANIELLE: No, silly, to our new member of the E Class! Stanley, meet Darrlina all the way from Australia! STANLEY: Why hello, Darrlina...you have SUCH a beautiful name, darr-lin... DARRLINA:(giggles) Why, thank you! DANIELLE:(to Darrlina) That Stanley...everyday he's a different character! I remember once he got us all into thinking he was a witch doctor and went `oo ee oo aa aa` all day for no reason! You should have seen the professor when he walked in...he thought he was in the wrong class! DARRLINA: Oh my...speaking of professors, who's ours? DANIELLE: Hmm...his name is Ben Carey, we call him Sir Carey...he's a cool sort of teacher...he can be a bit blur though! DARRLINA: Is he strict? DANIELLE: Nah, not really but he can get tired of our jokes sometimes! That's why we don't fool around so much! Oh and he likes to appear into our class unexpectedly so we usually employ Stanley as our lookout... STANLEY:(interrupting) (shouting) PROF ALERT! PROF ALERT! EVERYONE GET READY! (everyone rushes to their place and hurriedly place books on table) DARRLINA: But...but where do I sit? DANIELLE:(pulls Darrlina's arm) You sit between me and Stanley! Come on, the prof doesn't like an unprepared class! (Darrlina, Danielle & Stanley run to place. Professor appears) SIR CAREY: Good morning class! CLASS:(all rise) Good morning Sir Carey! (all sit) SIR CAREY:(scans class) Well, I see that there's an extra person here...according to my records it should be a...Darrlina Haylinne Hayes, am I correct? DARRLINA:(stands) Yes, Sir. It's me. DANIELLE: Whew, some class, wasn't it? DARRLINA: I guess so...especially since the prof was talking in such a break-neck speed! STANLEY: You call that break-neck? Hmph! Compared to ME, he's a slow-mo! DARRLINA: Prove it! STANLEY: Okay! (speaks a whole string of words so fast, it's not understandable what he said) DARRLINA: Whoa, you really are fast! DANIELLE: He sure is...but the most annoying thing about it is that Stanley always tries to show off! Once he spoke so fast he lost his breath and collapsed! DARRLINA: Oh dear! What happened next? STANLEY: Well, I had to be sent to the sickroom and stayed there for about half an hour! DANIELLE: When Stanley woke up, he couldn't remember what happened until we told him! You should have seen his face...it's like someone told him his obituary! (Stanley blushes) STANLEY: Hey, hey, enough of me already... DANIELLE: Oh all right! Hey Darrlina, are you free tomorrow? DARRLINA: Tomorrow? What time? DANIELLE: Hmm...about 4 in the afternoon... DARRLINA: Yeah, why? DANIELLE: Oh good, coz I thought maybe you could accompany me to church tomorrow. DARRLINA: Tomorrow? But tomorrow is a Saturday, not a Sunday! DANIELLE: I know but tomorrow the church choir's practising, so...would you like to come? DARRLINA: Oh sure! But what about Stanley? DARRLINA:(looks around) Hey Danielle, where's the church choir? DANIELLE: Them? Oh, Father Lewis just told me that they're currently at the Old Folks' Home as part of their charity work and won't be back until 15 minutes later. Sorry to drag you in so early! DARRLINA: Oh, that's okay...so, your church choir does charity work as well...interesting! Considering our church back at Oz doesn't do that! DANIELLE: They don't? (Darrlina nods) Then what DO they do for charity? DARRLINA: Just collect donations...boring, huh? DANIELLE: Well, I don't want to judge...(church is quiet for a few minutes. Darrlina thinks) DARRLINA: Hey Danielle, have you ever wondered about something? DANIELLE: Wondered about what? DARRLINA: You know, what would happen if Jesus Christ was still alive right now? DANIELLE: Hmm, I don't know really...why? DARRLINA: Well, I've been thinking for a while...and I think if Jesus Christ was still here, well, I'll bet he was cool! DANIELLE: Really? DARRLINA: Yeah, I think so...(sings `I'll Bet He Was Cool` with Danielle singing the lines which are more like questions, i.e. `What would he wear? Would he wear Tommy Hilfiger?`, etc. and Darrlina singing the rest of the song) DANIELLE: Wow, I never thought of that...interesting! FATHER LEWIS:(suddenly appearing from out of nowhere) I think so too! DARRLINA & DANIELLE:(turns around)(in surprise) FATHER LEWIS??? FATHER LEWIS: Yes, my child, it is me. And I think that song you sang was rather nice, actually! DARRLINA: It was? Why, thanks! (smiles) CHOIR MEMBER 1: Hey Father, why don't we use this song for tomorrow? CHOIR MEMBER 2: Yeah, it's kinda cool actually! Lucky for me I recorded it all! FATHER LEWIS:(thinks) Well...all right, we shall sing this song! CHOIR: Yay! As I understand, we have one new member? DANIELLE: Yes, Prez! She's right here! (pointing to Darrlina who's sitting beside her) PREZ: Ah, yes. Introduce yourself, please. DARRLINA:(stands) Hi everyone, my name is Darrlina Haylinne Hayes, call me Darrlina, I'm originally from Australia and I'm taking the English Language and Literature course here at Future Of Earthly Delites. (sits) V-PREZ: Okay, so that was Darrlina, from Australia, taking the English Language and Literature course...everyone give a huge round of applause for Darrlina! (everyone applauds) MEMBER 1: Hey, isn't she the one Father Lewis introduced at church yesterday for teaching the church choir `I'll Bet He Was Cool`? DARRLINA: Yes, that's me! PREZ: Well, Darrlina, do you know that you've got loads of admirers already? MEMBER 2: Yeah, in my Biology class, everyone - including the prof - was talking about you! MEMBER 3: You'd better watch your back... STANLEY: Yeah, or else everyone will be coming up to you asking you for autographs! (all laugh) PREZ: Hey, I have an idea! Since today's meeting was about our monthly magazine, why don't we put Darrlina on the front cover? DARRLINA: Me? But I've only been here 4 days! PREZ: Never mind that! Everyone's bound to have known you by now - so what difference does it make? V-PREZ: Good idea! So who approves of putting Darrlina in the front cover? DARRLINA: Well, okay...(walks over to Danielle & Stanley's table) DANIELLE: Well, well, you're becoming quite the celebrity, Darrlina? STANLEY: Yeah, ever since the E Club Zine came out this morning, everyone's been rushing to get one! (sips milkshake) STUDENT 1:(walks over to Darrlina) Excuse me, Darrlina, is that you? DARRLINA:(kind voice) Yes, can I help you? STUDENT 1:(shyly) Err, I liked that article about you in the zine...I think you're kinda cool...would you please sign my zine? (produces zine and pen) DARRLINA:(smiling) Oh sure! (signs zine) Thank you! STUDENT 1: Thank you too! (to pals at other table) Told you I could do it! STANLEY: See? My prediction at last week's meeting came true after all! People ARE coming up to you for autographs! DARRLINA: Yeah, but too bad it was only a dare! DANIELLE: Hey Stanley, didn't we hear a song just now that we wanted to sing to Darrlina? STANLEY: Oh yeah, we did! DARRLINA: What song? STANLEY: You see, a while before you arrived, they were playing this song on the radio and we thought it was kinda interesting. DANIELLE: And it sounded kinda appropriate since it is about celebrity... DARRLINA: That's interesting...can I hear it? STANLEY:(to Danielle) Whaddya say? Let's sing it for her, okay? DANIELLE: Okay! You know, Darren and Darrlina, Daniel and Dani-ELLE...as it is, you guys share their last names - Hayes and Jones! DANIELLE: And our interests are alike to our Gardener partners! I love water-skiing while Darrlina's getting to be quite the journalist! DARRLINA: I guess we are a bit like Savage Garden! DARRLINA: Oh, nothing...nothing at all... DANIELLE: Come on, tell me the truth...usually you aren't as `mopy` as this! What happened? DARRLINA: Oh all right! I'm under a lot of pressure right now, Danielle...you know... DANIELLE: No, I don't know, Darrlina! DARRLINA:(moans) I've got loads of coursework to do, the lessons are getting more confusing and my `celeb` status has gone too far! DANIELLE: What do you mean? DARRLINA: Well, everyone's been racing to me telling me very stupid things...some guys were even trying to harass me...oh, if only I could live like animals for at least a moment! DANIELLE: Animals? DARRLINA: Yes, Danielle, animals...(sings `The Animal Song`) Get my point? DANIELLE: Do I ever! But, hey, I think I can help! DARRLINA: Oh yeah? How? DANIELLE: Just listen to me for a moment, will ya? Okay, imagine your life right now is a computer game. Come on, tell me, what's your problem? STANLEY: Well, I was sleeping one night when I dreamt about this girl I fancied... DANIELLE: Ooh, a girl you FANCY...who's she? STANLEY: Can't tell you...secret...(Stanley blushes) DANIELLE: Oh well, what was your dream about? STANLEY: Well, I was in this violet-coloured disco, see, and suddenly she walks in. She looked so beautiful! Then the DJ played a song which I knew the words to, so I sang the song to her. DANIELLE: Hmm...do you remember the song you sang? STANLEY: Amazingly, I still do! Want me to sing it for you? (Danielle nods) Okay then...ahem! (sings `Violet`) What's funny is that the song itself has a few lines which go `I've got a DREAM to take you over`...just what I'll like to say to that dream girl! You see, ever since I met Stanley in my Language & Literature class, I've had this, erm, attraction for him. The thing is, I'm not sure if he wants me because he hasn't even made a pass at me yet. All this life I've never had a boyfriend, so I'm hoping that Stanley becomes...well...my first. I'm worried that if I tell this to him, he may reject me. He may think I'm stupid or something. If that happens, I'm surely going to cry tears of pearls...(sings `Tears Of Pearls`) You see? DARRLINA: Yeah, I know...but then everyone's either got a date or is too shy...sigh...as it is I've never had a boyfriend! DANIELLE: You haven't? (students applaud) As you all know, the theme for this year's End Of Orientation Prom is `The Horror House` and everyone's really into this theme...there are some vampires around, one person's dressed up as a mummy, some decided to be Frankenstein...yes, ladies and gentlemen, this college has really turned into a horror house! (students laugh) DARRLINA:(walks over to Danielle's table holding Stanley's arm) Hi Danielle! STANLEY: Hey, are we late? DANIELLE: You're just it time! The MC just greeted everyone. Nice costumes you two have...vampires, woo...(hums horror tune) DARRLINA: Oh shut up, Danielle! We're gonna get enough of that from the DJ! STANLEY:(puzzled) Hey Danielle, what's that you're wearing? DANIELLE: This? Oh, it's my `half-woman-half-man` costume...I got it from the local costume shop two days ago... DARRLINA: Where's your brother? DANIELLE: Oh, he just went to apply a little more makeup...he's going to be the scientist that made me into this mess! (laughs) MC: All right, everyone, the first song of this prom is our theme tune. It's `Carry On Dancing` by the one and only Savage Garden. The same group which gave us our anthem `Santa Monica` and gave the college this name after they performed here not too long ago! For the new students, this college used to be named College of Savage Town before Savage Garden came here and changed everything, especially since they were impressed with the name of this town! This song is a moderately fast rhumba, so get your date and dance! STANLEY:(holds Darrlina's hand) Will thy fair lady give me the honour of having the first dance of the day? DARRLINA: Oh certainly! (both rise to the dance floor and dance while `Carry On Dancing` is played) MC:(after `Carry On Dancing` is done playing) Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that was `Carry On Dancing` by Savage Garden, a song which, according to the guys themselves, is based on vampires. What a appropriate song for the End Of Orientation Prom this year, isn't it? Now I'll like to remind you that we'll be giving out awards at the end of this prom, which include Best Dressed Couple, Best Dressed Person and the prestigious Prom Prince And Princess award. Now is the moment we've all been waiting for - the moment where all your votes have been counted and the awards given. Okay, for the first award, Best Dressed Couple, the award goes to...Lee Novak and Anna-Maria LaSpina as the Phantom and `Phantomette` Of The Opera! (students cheer) LEE:(goes up on stage with partner and accepts award) I'll like to stay thanks to everyone who helped...it took us days to create this costume... ANNA-MARIA: And multiple times of watching `The Phantom Of The Opera` just to see what the characters actually wear! LEE: Once again, thank you! (both go down stage. Students cheer) MC: Secondly, the award for Best Dressed Person tonight goes out to...Danielle Jones with her `half-man-half-woman` costume! DANIELLE:(surprised) Oh my goodness! I won! DARRLINA: Congratulations, Danielle! (Danielle goes up on stage to accept award) DANIELLE: Well, I'll like to thank Violet Costumers for this costume, my brother for agreeing to be the mad scientist (students laugh) and well, just about everyone who voted for me! (orchestra does drumroll) DANIELLE: Oh my god, who's going to win? DARRLINA: God, I'm so scared! STUDENT 1: So am I! MC: And tonight's Prom Prince and Princess are...Darrlina Haylinne Hayes and Stanley McIntyre! Congratulations! (students cheering loudly. Spotlight shines on Darrlina & Stanley) DARRLINA:(screaming) Oh my gawsh! We won, Stanley, we won! STANLEY: So we did! I can't believe it! DANIELLE: Congratulations you two! MC: Will Darrlina and Stanley please come up here onto the stage to be crowned the newest Prom Prince and Princess? (Darrlina & Stanley go up stage) Thank you! (music plays while Darrlina & Stanley sit on their thrones, have crowns placed on their heads and are given a small staff each) STANLEY: Oh gosh...this is so amazing...I, I just can't believe it! Well, I'll like to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for me, and of course to my leading lady, Darrlina... STUDENTS: Woo! DARRLINA: Well, I'll also like to say thanks to just about everyone...this is my first prom, actually, and I guess I'm rather lucky today...this, this is just amazing! Thank you! (students applaud) STUDENT 2: Hey MC, what about the challenge we give the Prom Prince and Princess every year? STUDENTS: Yeah, come on, give 'em the challenge! DARRLINA:(puzzled) Challenge? (Darrlina, Danielle & Stanley arrive at The Promenade) DANIELLE: Well, here we are... DARRLINA:(amazed) Wow, it's so...beautiful! STANLEY: It sure is! Come on, let's find a place to sit! (all 3 sit at a table next to the window) WAITER:(walks up to trio) Excuse me, what would you like to have for tonight? DANIELLE: I'll like a chica-cherry-cola - erm, make that 3 chica-cherry-colas - and some fries on the side with a cherry on top, please? DARRLINA: Some salmon sushi for me please! STANLEY: And I'll like the Savage Garden Salad Special, please! WAITER: Okay, that'll be 3 chica-cherry-colas, some fries on the side with a cherry on top, some salmon sushi and one Savage Garden Salad Special. That'll be 10 dollars, please. DANIELLE:(pays $10) Here you go! WAITER: Thank you and enjoy your meal! (waiter leaves) (after 10 minutes, the food arrives) DANIELLE:(eating fries) Yum, they've made it even tastier than ever! DARRLINA: Hey, this sushi is good! Too bad they don't have wasabi! DANIELLE & STANLEY: Whazzat? DARRLINA: Hot Japanese sauce they usually serve with sushi... STANLEY: So THAT's what made this salad so spicy all of a sudden! Sorry, Darrlina...(gives wasabi to Darrlina) I thought it was some sort of salad dressing! DARRLINA:(laughs) Oh that's okay...(tastes wasabi) My, it's SPI-CEE! (sips chica-cherry-cola) Goodness, Stanley, don't you taste anything hot? Especially since you ate a little of the wasabi... STANLEY:(gulping down chica-cherry-cola) What do you think I'm trying to do? Drown myself? (Darrlina & Danielle laugh) (After a while...) STANLEY: Sigh...but whoever said V-Day had to be on February the 14th? DARRLINA:(puzzled & cautious) Eh, Stanley, what are you getting at? STANLEY: What do you mean? DARRLINA: Well, you've been acting a bit weird lately...if it was Valentines season, I would understand but this is WAY past February...is there something you want to tell me? STANLEY:(thinks) Hmm...actually there is one thing I want to let you know... DARRLINA: What is it? Come on, tell me... STANLEY: Promise you won't laugh at me? DARRLINA:(getting excited) Promise! DARRLINA: I guess so...actually when you weren't around a minute ago, all the guys have been trying to approach me! STANLEY: What? And steal you from me? (Darrlina nods, scared) Well, no one takes MY Darrlina! STUDENT 1:(passing by from behind) So the rumour's true after all...you and Darrlina, ATTACHED! (everyone else laugh) STUDENT 2: Ooh, I wonder what you do when you're alone...heh heh heh! STANLEY: Oh shut up! STUDENT 3: Oh why should we, lover boy? DARRLINA: Good news or bad news? STANLEY: Erm, it depends on which side you look at it...I think, bad news. DARRLINA: Oh my...tell me anyway. STANLEY: Err, don't scold me for this, okay? (Darrlina nods) I, well, I've been posted to the other side of the country for about two months so I don't think I'll be able to see you for sometime... DARRLINA: Posted? Why? STANLEY: Sir Carey wants me to represent FOED for the national student exchange. I'm going to be at New York while someone from there comes to FOED. She's taking some other course, though. DARRLINA: New York...hmm...do those under the student exchange get to choose where they want to go? STANLEY: No, why? DARRLINA: Oh, nothing...just thought since Darren Hayes was there, you'll want to go to NY to see him! After all, his middle name IS Stanley! STANLEY:(laughs) Yeah right...as if I'll ever bump into anyone famous! The only famous person I know is you! DARRLINA: Oh good grief! I'm not THAT famous! DARRLINA: I hope you're right! DANIELLE: Hey, why don't you listen to Elated Wisdom radio on 80.5 FM? They're having a request program doing on now...maybe Stanley's sent you a dedication! (Danielle hurriedly runs up to Stanley) STANLEY: Hey, Danielle, calm down...what happened? DANIELLE: Listen carefully to what I have to say next, Stanley...it's the whole truth about Darrlina...(Sings `To The Moon & Back`) Stanley, a lot of things have been going on in Darrlina's life. Her parents have just divorced, her cousin disappeared, she's been failing... STANLEY: Oh my goodness! DANIELLE: There's more, Stanley...she says she still loves you...I just didn't want to tell you coz I was mad at her for wrongly accusing me as the person who created that rumour about you...(crying) Oh, forgive me, Stanley... STANLEY: Well...where's Darrlina? DANIELLE: In her apartment...come on, let's hurry! (pulls Stanley's arm and leads him to Darrlina's apartment)

DARRLINA: I'm going away...back to where I belong...(tears slowly flow out her eyes) DANIELLE: Darrlina, don't do anything stupid! DARRLINA: I'm not, Danielle...this is the smartest thing I've ever done...guys, sorry for anything bad I've done or said to you...goodbye...(stabs herself. Darrlina falls to the floor) STANLEY:(runs to Darrlina's body) Darrlina...Darrlina, are you okay? Darrlina, answer me! (kisses Darrlina) DANIELLE:(checks Darrlina's pulse and breathing) It's no use, Stanley. She's dead. STANLEY: NO!!! (holds Darrlina's body close to himself) Darrlina, you mustn't go! Not yet! DANIELLE: Come on, Stanley. We can't do anything...she's already gone... STANLEY: Oh Darrlina...why...(Stanley & Danielle cry) STANLEY & DANIELLE: WHY???
