Amatl Ome (Chapter 2): More than Just a School Dancer (II). By: Mahtlactli Atl. Milagros was delighted at the middle of the school yard, dancing in front of a big crowd, with the tipical Veracruz´s music. Milagros: (Thinking) I´m so happy! Everything is perfect. Hey, Mom, Dad, look at me! I'm a success! (She starts to worry) Where are you? I can't see you. Whom I'm dancing with? I can´t see his face. She tries to identifiy her mate, increasingly worried. Suddenly begins to rain. Everybody runs for coverage, but she can't stop dancing. Milagros: What's happening? Mister López? (She passes a hand over her face, trying to dry it) Mr. López, where are you? I can't stop! HELP ME!... Oh, my God!... My dress! M-my dress is shrinking!! (Suddenly, her dress gives way to her Coyolxauahqui's fuku). Oh, no, not this! Somebody help me, PLEAAASSSe....! Slowly she recovered her conciuosness, while Tameme licked her face. Tameme: Come on, girl, wake up!, WAKE UP!, What a kind of a hero I found... Go up, girl!! Milagros: What... is... happening...? Tameme: (Aparting itself a little) Heewh, I thought you had a heart attack. As I told you, we have no time to loose! Milagros: Oh, holy... You are still talking!! (Slowly, she puts a hand on her noser). I... I still have this thing on my nose!! (She gets up quickly, and looks at herself on the mirror) I-I-I still have these clothes on! Tameme: Do you believe me now? She threw water on her face, desperately trying to believe that she is still dreaming. When sees no result, she punches the lavatory. Milagros: WHYYYYY??!! WHY THE HELL MEEE???!!! Tameme: Come on girl, don't feel so worried, this is your destiny. Besides, I'll be with you. When Milagros turned to see him, Tameme knew it was the worst thing he could have said. Milagros: You, flea-ridden piece of... Tameme: (facefaulted) C-calm down, No Ziuantontzin... Milagros: Turn-me-back-to-nor-mal... Tameme: (Heading slowly to the bathroom door) I'll tell you how, b-but keep calm. Milagros: ...And-get-out-of-my life... Tameme: (Now terrified). Oh, I rememeber I left the beans on the stove... I´ll be back!! (He runs upstairs). Milagros: Come back, you...!!! For a moment, you can only hear crashing noises upstairs. Then Tameme returns to the main floor and desperately tries to open the front door, while Milly is trying to free herself from one of her dancing dresses, which now she has over her head. Milagros: Come back here, you...! Tameme: (Finally opens the door) I'll return when you calm down. (He exits) Milagros: Oh, no! You don't... Then she looked at the dog from the open door. Without thinking, she raised her right hand, as in the end of her transformation sequence. Milagros: Stop there!... TEOCENTZON HUITZNAHUAC, AXCAN!! Immediately, a purple ray seems to come from her hand, producing a huge explosion in the middle of the yard! For a moment, Milagros looked at the dust cloud produced. Terrified and face- faulted, she gave a shout as loud as the one she made in the bathroom, and ran full-speed to her room. She was almost crying when she closed the door of her room behind herself. Slowly, she took her right hand with her left, and lifted it. Milagros: Oh, no,... I killed the dog.... I KILLED THE DOOG!! (crying) PLEASE, SOMEBODY HELP MEEE!! As if she was listened, she heard heavy knocks at the front door. She bitted her hand to stop shouting. No one should see her dressed that way! She tried to compose herself, and went downstairs as quiet as possible. Voice: (While knocking) Milagros?, girl Milagros?, Are you fine? Milagros: (She recognizes the neighbor, and tries to fake a yawn) Wh-who?... Oh, is it you, ne-neighbor? I'm fine... fine... Voice: I heard a blow around here, and it seemed that you were shouting? Are you OK? Milagros: Y-yeah, yeah... I sup-suppose I was having a nightmare... He, he... (sweatdrops). Voice: There's a big black hole on your yard. Milagros: Really...? oh, well... he, he... you-you know the kind of "cuetes" (*fireworks*) the kids like to use nowadays... Voice: Surely are you fine? May I get inside? Milagros: NO!!! (she tries to control herself) I-I mean, no, no... I am... I am... Voice: Are you...? Milagros: NAKED!, Yes, yes, I took a bath before sleep, and I´m naked now! Voice: So? Milagros: I'll be really ashamed... you know... Voice: (Not too convinced) Well, as you wish. But are you really fine? Milagros: Yes, yes, don't worry, Madam. Thank you very much! Voice: OK, but you have my phone number if something is wrong. Milagros: Alright, alright, thank you. (She puts the ear on the door, trying to be sure that the woman is going away). Hewwwh!! Now, What do I do? (She slowly goes to the bathroom, looks at the mirror and touches again the noser). How can I take from me all this stuff? Tameme: You managed well. Milagros shouted and jumped to the floor, leaving a huge break on it and falling heavily to the ground. With a big ptach on her head, she turned back to see the dog behind the shower, calmly sitted. Milagros: How you came in? Tameme: I also have some tricks under my sleeve, but, how do you remembered it? Milagros: What? Tameme: The southern stars energy power. Milagros: You mean that... Oh, I´m so sorry... are you fine? Tameme: You almost killed me, No Ziuantontzin. but I´m happy to see that you are better now. Milagros: Well, not completely but... (looking tenderly to him) Please, tell me how can I change. Tameme: Easy. Just put your hands over the brooch... No, right hand first... OK... Close your eyes... And now say "Tlazohkamatih". Milagros: Tlazohkamatih... A bright light filled all the room, and when it turned of, Milagros was again in her civilian clothes (her football uniform). Tameme: Easy, isn't it? Milagros: Yes, thank you, but, why me? Tameme: Why you what? Milagros: Why I´m that Coyo... Coyo... Tameme: Coyolxauhqui? Milagros: Yes. Why do you think I'm her? Why not Lola, or any other member of the team? Tameme: I was your pet in the past, and I remember you very well. Besides, your mother was pretty clear about it: "She will look as you remember her, but also you'll find on her the sign of the Moon Rabbit", she said. Milagros: The Sign of the Moon Rabbit? What does it mean? I've got something on me? Tameme: Yes, your last name: Tuchmetztli means "Rabbit of the Moon". Milagros: Yes, but any of my cousins or sister would have it. Tameme: Let's see: Do you have any sister? Milagros: No... Tameme: Any female cousin? Milagros: N-No... Tameme: Any uncle by your father's side? Milagros: No. My father is a single child. Tameme: You see? This is another sign. You are my owner Coyolxauhqui, the one I'm looking for. Milagros: Why now? How do you know my brother will not have a daughter, and she will became her? Tameme: The time is now. If Tezcatlipoca wins, neither your brother or anyone else will have any daughter at all. He must be stopped right now. Milagros: But how? What can I do about it? Tameme: As you just saw, you aren't a normal girl. Suddenly, Milagros' face enlighted. Milagros: Are you saying I'm some kind of Sailor Senshi? Tameme: (sweatdropping) You're a what!? Milagros: (Turning to the mirror and looking herself again, but now happily) A Sailor Senshi. Come on! Haven´t you heard about the japanese girls? The fighters of love and justice? (Looking again to the mirror) Wow, I´m a Sailor... Tameme: No, and I don't care. You are a Yaocihuatl... Milagros: (Interrumpting) A Sailor... Tameme: A Yaocihuatl... Milagros: (Lifting her right hand) A Sailor... Tameme: (Retreating quickly behind the shower). OK, OK, You are whatever you wish!, but put that hand down, will you? Milagros: (notices what she is doing, and quickly moves down her hand, holding it on her back) So-sorry... Tameme: Well, I guess we better go to sleep. It´s round midnight. Milagros: OK. (She yawns) Where will you sleep? I can't let you sleep inside until I talk to my parents. Tameme: Don't worry. I'll be outside. I've done this many times in the past days. Milagros: (While going to the front door) Alright, but don't go. I need to talk with you tomorrow. Tameme: So do I. Good night, No Ziuatontzin. Milagros: (She opens the door as the dog leaves) You have said that many times tonight. What does it mean? Tameme: "My holy girl". Milagros: Oh! It's beautiful... Good night, bonito... Voice: Milagros.... Milagros... Wake up! It's time! Milagros: (very sleepy) Mo...Mom? Mother: I'm sorry to wake you up, but it's almost noon. Milagros: What time you all came back? Mother: Around four o'clock. You should have seen your brother. He amazed everyone... Milagros: (Turning on her bed) You know I hate violence against animals, no matter how brave they look. Mother: You also know I don't like it too, but that's what your brother wants to do, and we must support him. Milagros: If you think so... (Yawning) Where is Dad? Mother: Fixing the car for your brother. He signed for a cartel in Tulancingo, and will bullfight there next saturday. Milagros: (Stretching on the bed) Good for him... Mother: By the way, I´ve never seen before that beautiful brooch on your boudoir. Is a Dolores' gift? Milagros: WHAT!?!? (She fell from the bed, went all-fours to the boudoir, and grabbed the nahuiollin) (To herself). Oh, my...! It wasn't a dream... (To her mother) Mom, do you saw a gray dog outside? Mother: What? Milagros: A gray dog, almost this high (she signals with her hand). Mother: Yes, there was a gray dog, but your brother scared it away... Milagros: What? Why the hell he did it! Mother: You know he hates pets, and... why are you so interested? Milagros: (Quickly goes to the window and moves away the curtains. She starts to look for the dog) He did not returned... Mother: No, your brother said the dog-pound caught it. Milagros: WHAAT!? (She quickly begins to dress, putting on her football jersey and the first jeans she finds) I must find him. Mother: Baby, what is so important about that dog? Milagros: It's a long story, Mom, but I must find him. Mother: But your father and brother don´t want... Milagros: I'll take care of them later. I must find Tameme. Mother: "Tameme"? Milagros: (Finishing to get dressed and hair-dressing herself a little) That's his name. Mother: But what were you doing yesterday? Milagros: We'll talk later, Mom, OK? I'll go to the antirrabic center to see if I can find him. Bye. (She goes out quickly) Mother: Hey, will you not take breakfast? Milagros quickly took the brooch and guarded it on her purse. On her way out, she found her father. Father: Hello, sleeping beauty. Milagros: (Running to him) Hi, Dad! (Kisses him) I must go to Ecatepec. Father: Now? Milagros: Yes. Voice: You see, father, she can't even awake properly. Milagros: (Going to the person who is no one else than her brother). And you, Mister "Mataor", before you scare an animal from our yard, ask me first, OK? Brother: What are you talking about? Milagros: I have no time now. (She goes to the street). Father: Hey! Come back, young lady! Milagros: Sorry, Dad, but this is too important for me. (She runs away). Father: What the hell happens to her? Mother: (from the front door) I don't know. She was worried about the gray dog Servando scared last night. Father & Brother: ... Three hours later Milly had arrived to Tultepec, but she hadn't find any sign of the dog. Milagros: He isn't here either. What can I do now? (She looks at her purse) How the hell can I find the moon without him? (She stands there, walking without a defined way, and suddenly she stops) I must try. I owe it to him. But, where? where can I transform? (She looked everywhere, trying to find a safe place, and the she saw the small mountain, known as "Xahuento"). I'm sorry, Dad, but this is what I call an emergency. A little later, she was climbing the mountain, and when she reached a lonely place she said: Milagros: OK, na... na... whatever, please help me. (She took the amulet on front, as Tameme teached her, and closed her eyes, wishing the nahuiollin can find itself the moon. Some time passed and nothing seemed to happen). Milagros: Come on, come on, please. Tameme needs us. (Nothing happened yet, and the she said unadvertedly) Ximo (*Please*). And right then, it began to turn her to the right, approximately 60 degrees and pointing a little lower. She opened her eyes. Milagros: Is it there? Please, be there! (Breathing heavily) OK, here we go! Tonantzin Metztli, Ollin! Then her transformation sequence began, and a little later she was Sailor Coyolxauhqui. Coyolxauhqui: (Increasingly excited) I remembered it? Thank God, I remembered it! Ha, ha, ha...! (suddenly stops and talks to herself) Wait, wait, you haven't found Tameme yet. Nauiollin, can you find my dog? Please, guide me! She closed her eyes tightly and kneeled, and then her view became bright orange, as when you turn to the sun with your eyes closed. When she reopened her eyes, she was inside the Ecatepec's anti-rabic center. Coyolxauhqui: Is he in here? I started searching here! Then she heard some crashing noises behind a door, and a groar she recognized from the football field. "Tameme!", she thought. She ran to the door and opened it. She saw the dog from the back of a wall, aparently prepared to attack something... or someone. She then noticed that his nose was not black, but bright red. Coyolxauhqui: Tameme... Tameme: Sorry, No Ziaunton, but you'll have to start your mission sooner than I wished. Coyolxauhqui: (Don't knowing to whom she was saying it) Stop right there, whatever you are. I'm Sailor Coyolxauhqui, Goddess of the Moon, and to reach my redemption and protect the Macuiltonatiuh, I'll stop you! Then a man looked from the other side of the wall, and he really scared her, because his eyes were also red. His clothes were shattered, as a signal that Tameme had some time fighting against him. Coyolxauhqui. But what the...? Tameme: He is possesed by a Mictlacatecolotl. Coyolxauhqui: What is it? Tameme: A servant of Mictlantecuhtli. You must fight him! The man began to climb the stairs slowly. Coyolxauhqui: But how? Tell me quickly! I don't like how he's looking at me! Tameme: OK, I'll give you something. Distract him. (He starts to run in circles). Coyolxauhqui: WHAT!! HOLY...! (She runs out and closes the door behind) GET HURRY, YOU LITTLE...!! (but the dog-catcher easily pushed her away. She starts to retreat to a desk) Wait right there, p-pal. You better stop, or I'll... (He lifted his arms for her), or I'll... SCREEEAAAMMM! She quickly ran to him, trying to elude to his left, but he quickly grabbed one of her feet make her fall. She desperately kicked him, trying to get free). NO, NOO, LET ME GO!! Suddenly. The man flied in the air, as if he had received an upper-cut. From the floor, Coyolxauhqui looked up to see a man standing and pointing the demon with a weird looking stick. He was dressed in the style of the ancient Eagle- Cavaliers. Man: Retreat. Mictlacatecolotl, and leave this soul in peace. Coyolxauhqui: Who, who are...? Man: (Not paying attention to her). I said let him free!. Then the Warrior grabbed the stick with both hands and screamed: "Teo Toquiaehecoatl, Ye!", and a small string of air, like a concentrated tornado, flew to the man's chest, liberating his heart crystal (As in Sailor Moon S). But it didn't looked red, but black. Then the black colour left the crystal in a cloud, and grew to take the form of a human-owl. Owl: How do you dare to go against our lords' plans. Coyolxauhqui: What's that thing? Man: I don't have power yet to stop him. You must do it. Coyolxauhqui: But how? Then the man grabbed her form the back, and took the nahuiollin. Milagros face blushed. Coyolxauhqui: (Lowly) What are you...? Man: Now take the nahuiollin (She does). Look at him on the eyes. And say... But in that moment, the owl send some feathers over them. They barely avoided the attack, and the feathers nailed on the wall and the door! Coyolxauhqui: Wwaaaahhh! They're like knifes! Man: I'll try to hold him, be prepared. Coyolxauhqui. What should I say? Man: "Cochiquetzalmetztli, Axcan" Coyolxauhqui: What? He was about to answer, when the owl threw more feathers, which he trapped with his stick. Man: Do it! Coyolxauhqui: OK! He smiled, and then ran to the owl-man. Owl: My lord Tezcatlipoca commands me to destroy you! Man: (Avoiding more feathers) But I say no! (The he connects the owl at the jaw, and turns to Coyolxauhqui). Do it now! Coyolxauhqui: I´m ready. Che closed her eyes and concentrated on the Nahuiollin, which began to send an orange light, and grew almost two times its original size. The owl started to awake, and when he looked to the girl, she opened her eyes and looked at his. Then she screamed: Coyolxauhqui: Cochiquetzalmetztli, Axcan! Then the nahuiollin threw the orange energy to the demon, which evaporated with an ugly scream. Coyolxauhqui stood for a moment, looking confused. Man: You did it very well. We'll meet later. Coyolxauhqui: Wait! Who are you? Man: Is not time yet for you to know it. We'll have time to talk later. But your mother believes in you, and now me too. So long! (Then he ran to the front door and exited). Coyolxauhqui: Wait! (She ran after him and scaned through a window in the door, but there was no sign of him. She blushed again. Tameme: (Opening the back door violently) To Ziuanton, are you... (He stops, and notices the dog-catcher on the floor, apparently depossesed. Then he talks to the girl.) I'm sorry, but I cannot make it appear. Probably is not time yet. (But Milagros keeps looking outside). Is all over? Coyolxauhqui: (Lowly) I don't think so... I don't think so... In a small niche on top of a piramid, two black-dressed figures are looking into a big black mirror. One of them has horizontal black and white stripes on his face. The other one's face is painted as a skull. Skulled face: My servant failed. Striped face: Don't worry. We are just beginning. Quetzalcoatl has finally showed himself. Skulled: What about the woman. Stripped: Nothing can worry me fewer. Sooner or later she'll return to me. That's her destiny. (To himself) as I'm doing with you. Skulled: Don't forget we also must find my woman. Striped: Of course. She will be with us two. (He walks closely to the skulled man, and puts a hand on his shoulder) Don't worry, my friend. As soon as the Chicuazentonatiuh arises, the world will became what we made it sometime... What it must be... (He laughs lowly). Later, Milagros was returning to her home, leading Tameme with her belt as a necklace. Tameme: I feel as a clown... Milagros: We're not in your epoch, doggie. I had to convince the dog catcher that I forgot your licence, and we can't take risks with another one. Tameme: Heewwwh! I guess you're right! Milagros: Home at last! I'm starving... Oh, oh... She said this because her father was waiting for her, looking angry. Father: Where have you been? Milagros: Well, well... Father: It's almost seven o'clock. Milagros: I-I had to find the dog. Brother: (Getting out from behind his father) Why? Milagros: Because, because... (Then she looked her mother and her friend Dolores coming from behind) ...Because he is the team's mascot!, isn't it, Lola? Lola: Wha...? Oh, yeah, yeah, he is... Is he...? Mother: And what is it doing here? Milagros: We saved him from a dog gang, and I offered to keep him here last night. Brother: You did it, now you can take it to the team's clubhouse. Milagros: But I want to keep him with me! May I, Dad? Mom? Brother: No, you... Milagros: I'm asking our parents! Father: Stop, both of you. (Looking at the dog) Where will you keep him? Milagros: I'll keep him at my room, or outside, as you wish. Please, Dad! Father: What do you think, Tere? Mother: (To Milagros) Do you promise to take care of him yourself. Milagros: Yes, Mom! Mother: And that it will not distract you from your duties? Milagros: Yes. Mother: And to clean your room daily? Milagros: (Big sweatdrop) Well... (Tameme scratches the back of her leg) OK, I'll do it, I'll do it. Mother: Even the dog knows it's impossible you can follow that promise, but... He's cute. Alright, you can keep him. Brother: (Angrily) Great, great. (Pointing menacingly to his sister) But if that thing enters its nose in my room, you can say goodbye to it! I made myself clear? Milagros: Don't you dare to menace me, "Capea". Mother: Alright, cut it off. Now you both must come to eat... to dinner, I mean... Milagros: I´m sorry, mom. I'll never do it again. Mother: Come in. I hope your dog likes the rests of the food. Milagros: I'm sure he'll stand it, or not? Tameme: (Thinking facefaulted) What else can I do?... ============================================================ END OF CHAPTER 2
