Milagros: (To herself, highly surprised) What? How did she call me? Right then, a red light flew over her hometown. Milagros: Oh, no! Not now...! She turned back and found her guardian dog, Tameme. Tameme: No Cihuanton, hold on... Milagros: Tameme, what´s happening? Tameme: The others went to find it out. You must rest... Milagros: (Weakly) No. Tameme: What? Milagros: (Looking through the window) My friends are already facing whatever is happening, and I... I have a bad feeling about this. (Turns back to Tameme) If something is gonna happen to my friends, well... it´s gonna happen to me too. TamemE: But you are too weak, No Cihuaton... It would be... Milagros: (Holds her medallion with closed eyes, and let´s itself scan for the moon) TO NANTZIN...! Tameme: NO CIHUANTON!! She stopped. Milagros: What´s up now? Tameme: Are you absolutely sure? Shouldn't you eat something at least? Milagros: I'll do it right after we all come back. I promise. Tameme: Why did you change your mind so suddenly? Why are you so anxious now? Milagros: Well... (She blushes and looks outside) Maybe I just noticed I'm not the only one feeling in need of redemption. I don't know yet which my mistake was, but I want to find it out... but I guess you know it better than me, ain't you? Tameme: (Feeling terribly guilty) No Cihuaton... please, don't make me feel worse. I can't... Milagros: (Pathing his head) Don't worry. I know it, pal. (Breaths deep and returns to her transformation) TO NANTZIN METZTLI, OLLIN! Once changed up, Yoacihuatl Coyolxauhqui held the Nahuiollin with both hands, and placed her left knee on the floor. Tameme: No Cihuanton... please, don't go. I will! Coyolxauhqui: (Smiling tiredly) I know you'll come anyway. I'll wait you over there. Nahuiollin, lead me to my friends! (Closes her eyes and concentrates) XIMO! =========================================== Yaocihuatl Coyolxauhqui's Codex Amoxtli Ce: The Long Way to Redemption. Amatl Mahtlactli uan Nahui (Chapter 14): A Kiss in Fear. By: Mahtlactli Atl. ============================================ The light covering Coyolxauhqui for teleporting slowly faded, but even before she was able to open her eyes, she felt how she was pulled by one of her wrists. Itzpapalotl: GET OUTTA THERE!! Coyolxauhqui: Aaaaaaaaiiiieeeeee!! She went flying, falling over her four friends. Mayahuel: What are you doing here?! Chalchiuhtlicue: We asked Tameme to not let you come! You're too weak! Itzpapalotl: Save it for later, will ya?? LOOK OOOUUUTTT!! In the nick of time, they jumped away from a fist smashing brutally on the place they were. In front of them was a gigantic demon, looking like a Sumo Wrestler, but probably more than 10 feet in height. Coyolxauhqui: Aaaaaaaiiiiieeeeee! What's this?? Demon: BWAHAHAHAAAAAA!! I'm Mictlatomahuac, and my Lord Mictlantecuhtli commands me to destroy you all! Coyolxauhqui: (To Tlazolteotl, but unable to stop looking to the demon) Tla- Tla-Tlazolteotl, have you been unable to nulify its powers? Tlazolteotl: (Denying) That thing just don't throws any energy. Itzpapalotl: (Exasperated) And with that size, do you thing it has any need of it? Demon: (Throwing a hit with all of his might) It's all over! Kyyyyyyyyaaaaaaa! Coyolxauhqui: (Covering herself and closing her eyes) Aaaaaaaiiiiieeeee! Mayahuel: (Stepping forward resolutely) METEPAMEH, INTLACPAC! She raised her arms to generate her protective walls just on time. They took the giant's hit, but she grunted a bit, like feeling somehow affected by the impact. Coyolxauhqui: Mayahuel! Are you alright? But she stood quiet. She just crossed her arms in front of herself and bent backwards, turning her walls into a dome. Demon: HAHAHAHAAAAAA! Do you really think something like this can hold me back? TAKE THIS! Mictlatomahuac then began to smash the dome savagely. It walls holding the attack, but Mayahuel's pain was growing with each hit. She was obviously getting some of the punishment. Coyolxauhqui: Mayahuel! Stop it, please! Chalchiuhtlicue: She'll not be able to stand this any longer (She looks upside) Itzpapalotl! Throw me up right when I tell you! Itzpapalotl: What? Are you planning to face that monster? Chalchiuhtlicue: Sooner than later, we'll have no other choice. Mayahuel! I know you must keep concentrated, but I need that you turn the dome back into a box right when I ask you! Did you hear me? She answered with a slight nod. Chalchiuhtlicue: OK. (Raises her left fist, offering her wrist to Itzpapalotl) Are you ready? Itzpapalotl: (Surrounding Chalchiuhtlicue's wrist with her red ribbon) I'm done! Chalchiuhtlicue: READY?! She awaited for the demon to throw two more hits, with the end of the second one, she shouted: Chalchiuhtlicue: NOW!!!! Itzpapalotl threw her upward, right after Mayahuel raised back her arms, in a perfectly synchronized action. Chalchiuhtlicue flew spinning her right hand over her extended arm, collecting the water in the air. When she surpassed the energy barrier, she shouted: Chalchiuhtlicue: ATLANCAN, AXCAN! Her attack went right to the Demon's eyes, blinding it for a few seconds. Itzpapalotl: I'm right with you, "pal"! She tied her red ribbon on a nearby treem while Mayahuel lowered her arms to delete the barrier. Itzpapalotl jumped an caught Chalchiuhtlicue in mid-air. Mayahuel: Tlazolteotl, take Coyolxauhqui away from here! go! Coyolxauhqui: Please, don't... Mayahuel: Go away now!! But right then, the recovered demon slapped Mayahuel wildly, who went flying to crash in a nearby wall. Tlazolteotl: Mayahuel! Itzpapalotl: Damn! Come dance with me, you ugly brat! (Jumps in the hair while shouting) TEO ITZMITL, EHUA! Two energy arrows landed on demon's back, but it answered with a hit right to her jaw. Itzpapalotl flew by her own momentum into a nearby bush. Coyolxauhqui: Oh, no. Please, cut it off! Chalchiuhtlicue: (Getting ready for a counter-attack) ATLANC-AAAIIEEEE! With a lighting fast reaction, the monster threw another punch, and Chalchiuhtlicue felt unconscious too. Demon: (To Tlazolteotl and Coyolxauhqui) He, he! Only two left. Surprisingly, Tlazolteotl pushed Coyolxauhqui into a bush, then facing the Youma resolutely. Demon: Well, well. It seems you want to fall first. For an answer, Tlazolteotl raised her hands in front her face's black triangle. Tlazolteotl: TEO CHIPAHUAC, MOTECH POHUI! A light sphere covered her, but she knew quite well it would not stand for long the demon's strenght. Demon: No, no, no. I had something else for you. The monster lifted the thin warrior, and hugged her increasingly hard. She tried not to shout at first, but pretty soon her pain and lack of air were too much to stand. Tlazolteotl: Aaaa-aaaaaa-aaaaaaaaaahhh...! Coyolxauhqui: Tlazol... Purita!! Leave her down! Please, don't! Voice: Leave her down! The demon was turning his head, surprised, but immediately, got a hard hit in the cheek. When falling, he had to left Tlazolteotl, already unconscious. The shadow caught her, and landed a few steps from Coyolxauhqui. Coyolxauhqui: Eagle Cavalier!! But this time, the warrior was lacking the self-confidence he displayed in many previous times. There was an unknown worry in his eyes... the same one Milagros was looking lately in her nightmares. After silently looking at her a moment, and handing her Tlazolteotl, he faced the demon. Cavalier: I see your masters are sending their best stuff already. Demon: (Giggling sinisterly) hu, hu, hu! There{s no long for Tlilcoatl's descent, and you know it better than nobody! You have not yet the power to hold back my masters, and the seven Yaocihuameh will never be together on time! Victory is for my Lord Mictlantecuhtli, and you better take your destiny! Cavalier: NO!! Chicuazentonatiuh will not be a new kingdom for Tezcatlipoca! I'll die before accepting it! Demon: Nice choice, but is the only one you have... DIE!! The demon charged over the Cavalier, and he was barely able to jump aside. A new punch was reaching her while falling, but he raised his curved maze and blocked on time. Demon: What? It can't be!! How can you stop my punch with that toy? Cavalier: The Ehecatepuztli will never surrender to Tezcatlipoca! The demon kept punching, and the Cavalier kept blocking every block with his weapon. Finally he found a chance to counter-attack, and connected right into the monster's jaw. While he was falling, the Cavalier shouted: Cavalier: TEO TOQUIEHECOATL, YE! His wind attack threw the big monster a few more meters away. Cavalier: Coyolxauhqui! Run away! Coyolxauhqui: (Running to him) No, I won't! Cavalier: (Struggling to keep his attack) You must! You are the only hope for Macuiltonatiuh! Right then, the monster jumped over the wind attack, and got ready to slam the pair. Coyolxauhqui saw in terror the incoming strike, but the Cavalier pushed her aside and took all of the impact on his back. With fixed eyes, Coyolxauhqui saw Mictlatomahuac getting ready to kick the defenseless warrior. Demon: Ha, ha, haa! Mi Lord Mictlantecuhtli will reward my for this! DIE!!! Coyolxauhqui: TEOCENTZON MIMIXCOA!!! Coyolxauhqui{s attack hit right on the monster{s foot, forcing him to fall backward, shouting in pain. Then she, showing no emotion, took the Nahuiollin in front of her body, closed her eyes and concentrated, faster than ever before, the Nahuiollin collected the required energy, and she shouted: Coyolxauhqui: COCHIQUETZALMETZTLI, AXCAN! The beam of energy finished fast with the demon, leaving a heart crystal flying in the air. When the jewerl recovered its size and color, Coyolxauhqui loose conciousness, falling heavily to the ground. She never knew how many time she was unconscious. When she finally awoke, she was in Cavalier's arms, while Mayahuel was shaking her shoulders and Tameme was licking her face, trying to awake her, while her other three friends and Cicitl were looking anxiously. Mayahuel: Mily! Mily! Are you OK? Tlazolteotl: (Blessing herself on her knees) Holy Lord! She's reacting. Chalchiuhtlicue: How are you? Coyolxauhqui didn't answered. She just held closely into the Cavalier, and began to cry weakly. Itzpapalotl: (Trying to keep unnoticed her wipping of a tear) You really scared us, gal! Cavalier: Thank you all. I'm glad everything's fine. Now I must... But Coyolxauhqui held stronger on his disguise. Coyolxauhqui: Please, don't go. I'm scared! Cavalier: (Holding gently her chin to make her look into his eyes) Me too. Our time is running away. Coyolxauhqui: That isn't what I mean... This time... this time was so different. I've never felt before so much rage, so much anger inside of me. Why is all of this happening?! (She buried her face back into Cavalier's chest) Why me? The Cavalier kept looking at her, speechless. Then, he made a decision. Cavalier: Come with me. Coyolxauhqui: What? Cavalier: We must talk now. Is the least we all owe you. Both stood up. Mayahuel: Wait! What are you doing? Cavalier: OHTLIEHECATL, TI NITZ! After this, the Cavalier and Coyolxauhqui vanished in a blur. Chalchiuhtlicue: Hey, where are you...? Tameme: LET 'EM GO! The girls turned to Tameme and Cicitl. Mayahuel: What's happening, Tameme? Tameme: He... He's right, (Lowers his head) This is the least we owe No Cihuanton. For an answer, Cicitl licked his cheek. Coyolxauhqui and the Cavalier reappeared on top of a nearby hill. Coyolxauhqui: Not far from where we were. Look! There's your home. Coyolxauhqui looked to where he was pointing, and recognized her hometown, but immediately looked back to him. Coyolxauhqui: Not long... I mean, since all of this began, I'm suffering weird nightmares... and not long ago, you began to appear in them, You had the same sad look you have now. When she was near to touch his shoulder, he walked a bit forward, offering his back. Cavalier: Long, long ago, there was a "guardians" cast for this side of the world. With our guideance, the people in this continent grew and built up a magnificent empire which would have surprised the rest of the world if the chance could have arised. But... well... Ends never met, and Tezcatlipoca won before it became possible... Coyolxauhqui: But who is Tezcatlipoca? What it all has to do with me?? Cavalier: Coyolxauhqui, I... I am one of the leaders of such cast. I'm... Yaotecatl Quetzalcoatl. Coyolxauhqui stood freezed. Maybe Milagros Tuchmetztli ain't knew all she would like to know about prehispanic history, but she remembered the name of Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Snake, for sure. Coyolxauhqui: Quet... Quetzalcoatl?? Quetzalcoatl: Yes. The one destined to fight against Tezcatlipoca, to keep the sun moving in the sky; the one who lost the fight for the fifth sun (sits on the ground) And now... and now I feel so useless!! He then punched the ground. Slowly, Coyolxauhqui walked to him and put her hands over his shoulders. Coyolxauhqui: Why do you say this? Qutzalcoatl: Because that's true. There's no way to find the other Yaotecameh on time, The Yoacihuameh will have to face first a demon as strong as Tezcatlipoca. The Cavallier stood up and wiped his face with an arm. It was obvious he had cried a bit. Quetzalcoatl: Coyolxauhqui, you were destinated to end the eternal struggle of the sun against the moon prevalent of the previous suns. Our parents Ometecuhtli and Omecihuatl had planned it that way, but Tezcatlipoca ruined everything, and took control of the Macuiltonatiuh. Coyolxauhqui: What do you mean? I...? Quetzalcoatl: I would have gave everything I got to don't let you ever know about this, to let you keep your normal living! But as that monster said, or time is running out. Coyolxauhqui: So, what's that thing... how does he named it... Quetzalcoatl: Do you mean "Tlilcoatl"? That's the day of the "Black Snake". Was in a moment like that when Tezcatlipoca took control of the fifth sun, and it will soon repeat. In that precise moment. Tezcatlipoca can gather all of the power to end with our current world, at least in our continent, and to provoke a cataclism which may allow him to create the Chicuazentonatiuh, the Sixth Sun, under his rule. Coyolxauhqui: What would happened if he ruled the sixth sun? Quetzalcoatl: (Looking at her sadly) Maybe Tezcatlipoca was right, but I truly don't think so. I never believed in human sacrifice. I always thought it was love, and not blood, the feed of Gods, but he won and convinced our people of the opposite, and it's true, the empire was a glorious one, but, well, maybe I was too humble, but... (he looks up to the sky) I KNOW we would have acheived a better kingdom by my way. Such is my fear, if Tezcatlipoca wins, that the few survivors of the holocaust may support his thirast for blood. Coyolxauhqui: Do you mean my parents... my friends... will all die? Quetzalcoatl: Quite probably. If not, surely they'll be turmed into his slaves. Coyolxauhqui: And only we five... I mean, six with you, can stop him? Quetzalcoatl: No. I'll have to fight in other place when the moment comes, but the Yaocihuameh are the ones destined to do the final battle against Tezcatlipoca. Coyolxauhqui: But why me? Why now? Look at me! I'm only fifteen!! Quetzalcoatl: I don't know! Idon't know why the hell Tlilcoatl had to come so soon, but it will happen for sure!! (New tears went down his cheeks) Oh, God! If I just were seven years older! If just I can have some more experience! (He sits back, with clenched fists in front of his eyes). Coyolxauhqui stood there, just looking the despair of the young warrior, not too older than herself, and... Coyolxauhqui: Oh, my God...! She slowly went to him, squatting, and slowly moved back the eagle head covering his head. He was so depressed and tired, he made no attempt to stop her. Coyolxauhqui: Do... Donají? Holy Virgin! But how? How long do you know it? Quetzalcoatl: Not long ago... Around a month before meeting you and Tameme at the football field. Coyolxauhqui: And you knew I was...? Quetzalcoatl: No, I had no idea then. I figured that day at the pool, when you and Mayahuel met Chalchiuhtlicue, and I confirmed it that day at the ball I invited you both. Coyolxauhqui: And that day, why ain't you told me? Quetzalcoatl: Mainly, because I was hoping to help you from the shadows, but I was sincere that day: I promised myself not to tell you my identity until I would became a real help for you. Male Voice: It's no surprise you quitted so fast. You've always been too soft. Both scanned for the voice surprised. Coyolxauhqui hugged Quetzalcoatl terrified, since she knew too much that voice. It was the same one in her nightmares! Quetzalcoatl: TEO TOQUIEHECOATL, YE! But the wind attack just passed through the man standing in front of them. He was an athletic man, undoubtedly handsome, with his face painted with black and white horizontal stripes. Striped-face: Tsk, tsk, tsk. Don't be so anxious, crying boy. Time hasn't come yet, but soon, pretty soon... Quetzalcoatl: You b**! Come right here and fight me! Striped-face: (Denying with his head and index finger) Ah-ah-ah. No, my friend. Everything must happen in its destined moment. Coyolxauhqui: Who are you? Why are you into my dreams?? Striped-face: (Mocked innocence) Who? Meeeee? Coyolxauhqui: I've heard your voice in my dreams! You've been pushing me to... to do... (A sob interrupts her). Striped-face: Me? I would never do something like that to you, my beloved child. Besides, "dreams" is a bad name for them... hmmm... "Memories" is a more fitting word... Coyolxauhqui: What do you...?! Striped-face: (Asking for silence) Sh-shh-shhhhhh! Is not time yet, my baby. Coyolxauhqui: I'M NOT YOUR BABY!! Striped-face: Of course you are! Even more (walks to her and whispers into her ear) I'm your destiny... Quetzalcoatl: DON'T YOU DARE TO TOUCH HER!! The Cavalier tried to push the man aside, but his hand just passed through his rival's body. The man stood slowly and faced him. Striped-face: And once you were so powerful... now you're just pathetic! The men sent a brutal punch to Quetzalcoatl's face, and he got it! The Eagle Cavalier heavily felt to the ground, his nose bleeding, and Coyolxauhqui quickly ran to help her. Coyolxauhqui: NO! How could you...? As gently as possible, Quetzalcoatl pushed Coyolxauhqui aside, stood and faced once again the painted-face man. Quetzalcoatl: (Wipping his nose) You can beat me down a thousand times, and a thousand and one I'll be back facing you! Striped-face: Well, well! Now you've got the guts you never had back then! It's a bit late for this, don't you think so? He threw another punch, and Quetzalcoatl felt heavily to the ground. Coyolxauhqui: (Facing the man) STOP THIS! The man saw Coyolxauhqui's cold stare, and smiled again. Striped-face: Good! That's couragem just like then... She stood quiet, facing him coldly. Striped-face: Keep this spirit for the moment you come back to me, my baby. Coyolxauhqui: Tell me who are you. Striped-face: For you, I'm "Telpochtli", the Endlessly-Young One. For the "macehual" people, I'm the supreme God of the Fifth and Sixth Sun. I'm known as Tezcatlipoca. She kept her stare at him, even when her eyes turned a bit wet. Tezcatlipoca: Well, now that we all know each other, I must leave for now. I'll see you later, my beloved girl. As soon as "Tlilcoatl" displays, we both will became supreme rulers of the Chicoazentonatiuh. Coyolxauhqui: Never... Tezcatlipoca: That's what you think now, my baby, but when you remember how marvelous power feels, you will be WILLING to stay next to me forever. Coyolxauhqui: (Denying while a tear rolled down her cheek) I said no! Tezcatlipoca: (Caressing her cheek) You are from the shadow side, just like me. You have no choice, my dear. Such is your destiny. Goodbye. And with this, Tezcatlipoca went away. Coyolxauhqui stood freezed in her place, speechless, until Quetzalcoatl talk to her. Quetzalcoatl: I'm sorry. I couldn't... She ran to him and hugged with all of her strenght. Coyolxauhqui: Don't leave me! Don't you ever leave me, please! Quetzalcoatl: (Slowly giving back the hug) Never. Coyolxauhqui: I'm afraid of that man! Quetzalcoatl: (Touching her hair) I know. My fear was to be unable to protect you when the final moment comes. Coyolxauhqui: Was? Quetzalcoatl: I just know that I'll fall before you. Coyolxauhqui: Don't say it, please! Quetzalcoatl: I want you to feel assured that you'll never be alone with this, ever. (Lifts her chin) You know it, don't you? She nodded, and then moved her head over his chest. Coyolxauhqui: Does this means you are my boyfriend? Quetzalcoatl: (Lifting her chin again) I would love it. Not just to make you feel better... but... most of all... (he blushes). Coyolxauhqui: Most of all...? Quetzalcoatl: Most of all... because I'm in love with you. She stood on her tiptoes, trying to kiss him, but suddenly stopped and touched her Yecapil. Coyolxauhqui: (Blushing) This this is always obstructing me. Quetzalcoatl whispered something into her ear. Coyolxauhqui: Metztli Yecapil, Ximo? (The noser softly felt on her hand. She stared at it and smiled, to then turn back to him) If I just had knew earlier it was so easy... She tippy-toed again, and then they finally kissed for the first time. In his hiding, Tezcatlipoca angrily punched the black mirror. Mictlantecuhtli (The man with the skull-painted face): Any problems? After a brief moment looking to his own fist, Tezcatlipoca smiled, Tezcatlipoca: Of course not. Quetzalcoatl has finally unmasked himself, so we must hurry things a bit, before the seven cihuateteo are gathered. Mictlantecuhtli: And what about my matter? Tezcatlipoca: Now, more than ever, we must find her. Mictlantecuhtli: Man! At long last, finally you decide to act seriously about it! After Mictlantecuhtli went out. Tezcatlipoca supported his arm over the mirror, and then his head. Tezcatlipoca: It's undeniable. If they find her before me, they'll just need another Yaocihuatl to face me. I cannot allow it to happen before "Tlilcoatl"! I must do something about it... All of the other girls were awaiting at Milagros' house. Ameyali: How can we explain her absence if her parents come back before her? Malinalli: She'll come in time, don't worry about it. I'm more worried about HOW she will be back. Barbara: I DO worry about time. She left with the "kid", remember? Malinalli: Yes, but she's not like you! Barbara: (Facefaulted) What do you mean with this? While the other were arguing, Purita kept her eyes closed and hands interlaced, praying silently. Then, they heard a shout outside. Tameme: No Cihuanton! Hurriedly, the four girls went out of the house, and looking above the fence, they saw Milagros and Donaji walking to the house, tenderly embraced, and Tameme and Cicitl running to them. Purita: (Blessing herself) Jesus, Maria and Jose! Then, it was him? Malinalli: (Putting her stump over Purita's shoulder) Don't worry. Everything looks fine. ============================== END OF CHAPTER 14.
