Zelgadis leant up against a rock. His ever alert senses watching, waiting.
Nearby, his companions slept. It had been a long day adventuring and
they
were exhausted. However, darkness fell before an inn could be located.
So
now Lina, Gourry and Amelia were roughing it. All the while Zel kept
watch.

However it was all quiet - Quiet apart from the snoring coming from
Gourry
and Lina. In the moonlight, Zel could just make out both their recumbent
forms. Obviously, Lina was sticking close to Gourry because she wants
the
Sword of Light. Zel couldn't help smiling as he reflected on Lina constantly
persuading Gourry to hand the sword over.
And then there was Amelia.

Amelia was sleeping so peacefully. She was nearest to Zel but some distance
from Gourry and Lina. Odd, thought Zel, Why was she sleeping so far
away
from Lina and Gourry? Wouldn't she be better off protected if she was
nearer
to them? Didn't she feel safe near them?
Was it because she felt safer if she was nearer to Zel then Lina and
Gourry?
Was she relying on me to watch over her?

Of course, that must be it. Zel slowly got to his feet and made his
way over
to Amelia. Once there, he knelt by her side.

Gently, Zel picked up Amelia and rested her in his arms. Undisturbed,
Amelia
continued sleeping. Zel looked down into her face, and was moved by
her
beauty, her smooth complexion, her delicate features. Zel reached down
and
brushed her face with his hand.

"We're alone." Zel whispered in her ear.
Zel wasn't certain of she could her him but he continued unperturbed.
"You really do have a crush on me don't you? Despite my freakish appearance?"
Zel paused momentarily before continuing
"I've waited for a moment like this, when we are alone, and you are
in my arms…"
"Of course I will protect you. Not because I am one third rock golem
But
because I…I.."
Zel stopped. He couldn't do it. Words seemed futile. He then leant
forward
and, in a moment of passion, their lips touched

Zel raised his head and gazed upwards at the heavens. He felt so alone,
He
felt as if he and Amelia were the only people left in the world. Suddenly
his eyes widened. A shooting star whizzed past. Make a wish? Zel chuckled.
He didn't know what could be better now. Looking down, he noticed that
Amelia wore a little smile on her lips.
"Sweet dreams" Zel whispered
