Chapter Two: The fall of the holy city, the mazoku attack!

Amelia awoke to the cry’s of battle. She blinked a few time’s before realizing it wasn’t a dream, but her worst nightmare...had come true. She sat up quickly, gasping, holding the covelet to her chest, while she listened to the sound’s of shouting men, sword’s clanking together, cannon’s blasting, arrow’s snapping into the air, and the crackling of fire.

“Oh no, Daddy...”

Amelia climbed from bed and ran to the open balcony. She gasped at the view below her. Huge, ugly monster’s...by the thousand’s, slaughtering every being in it’s path. Scream’s of agony rose from the throat’s of the guard’s man who were trying to block the Mazoku’s from entering the kingdom, to no avail. Blood and human bodies covered the holy ground of Saillune. The sky was engulfed in a terrible red flame. Amelia looked to the East wing of the castle, that was in flame’s. The hot wind whipped her raven lock’s around her face, ad tear’s spilled over her cheek’s.

“N-no...”

Amelia quickly ran back into her dark room, lighted only by the flame’s outside. She rapidly dressed into her usual tunic. She headed towards the door, she suddenly stopped and ran back to her dresser and opened the drawer, she reached in and pulled out her amulet bracelet’s. She quickly ran into the empty hall’s off the palace.

“Give me courage, Mother...”

“Oh, my...perhaps we shouldn’t have stopped for that last meal...” Xelloss mocked, floating mid air next to the running group. Pointing to the smoke that filled the sky.

“Lina, we’re too late!” Gourry gasped, picking up the pace.

“Oh no...Hold on Amelia, please hold on.” Lina echoed in her mind.

“Come on!” Zelgadis shouted, picking up Lina and throwing her over his shoulder, using his chimera speed to good use.

“Xelloss, grab Gourry and hurry the hell up!”

“Will do!” Xelloss chuckled , grabbing Gourry by the ankle and summoning a ray wing to follow swiftly behind Zelgadis. <> “Ahhhhhhhh! Liiiiina!”

“ Zeeeeeeeel Put me doooooooown!”

Zelgadis ignored Lina, feeling fear trickle through his vein’s, as Saillune came into view, blazing with red flames. Lina stopped pummeling her fist’s on Zel’s shoulder’s as she also noticed the setting.

“By the god’s, Zel...”

“Let’s go...”

Zelgadis set Lina down and dashed to the entrance of Saillune, Lina, Xelloss, and Gourry close behind.

“Daddy!? Daddy where are you!?” Amelia cried, running through the deserted hall way’s within the palace. Amelia panted, reaching the ball room. It was so eerie. So silent and dark. Amelia fell to her knee’s and sobbed.

“My kingdom....My home...”

“There, there little one...don’t cry...” A comforting voice came from the shadow’s. Amelia gasped and jumped to her feet.

“Who are you!?”

A clawed beast stepped forward grinning as blood leaked onto the floor from it’s clenched hand. He tossed the limp body of a slaughtered maiden servant before her feet. Amelia screamed and backed away.

“You...MONSTER!”

“Why thank you, Princess...” The Mazoku chuckled, raising his blood soaked hand to pint to Amelia, stepping forward.

“It’s your turn, my dear...”

Amelia frowned and positioned her hand’s to attack.

“There’s no way I can beat him, I can’t defeat Mazoku’s. Not with out the help of Zelgadis, or Lina... What can I do but...run?” Amelia thought, panicked and frightened. She summoned a flare arrow, as it crackled with energy between her finger’s. The mazoku snickered moving forward.

“You really don’t think you can beat me with that, do you?”

“No, I don’t! But I can do this!”

Amelia released the arrow as it exploded against the stone wall of the palace. Amelia took a quick dash and jumped through the hole. The Mazoku coughed waving the smoke from his eye’s.

“Huh...?! Where’d she go!? Very clever precious...” The mazoku giggled and faded from view.

“...DRAGON SLAAAAAAVE!...” Lina cried, sending the fierce red beam towards a group of feasting Mazoku’s. Sending the shocked demon’s into the pit’s of the 9 hell’s.

“Astral Vine!” Zelgadis shouted slinging his blade through the monster before him.

“Ergh, there’s no way in hell we can take them all out!”

“Light come forth!” Gourry cried, standing back to back to Lina.

“What are we going to do Lina, and where did Xelloss go?”

“I-I’ve never seen so many Mmazoku’s in my life. They’re EVERYWHERE!”

Zelgadis snorted, trying to avoid the hundred’s of dead Saillune soldier’s in the way.

“Better grab Amelia and Phil, and run for it...”

“Run for it, Lina? That’s not like you.” Zelgadis commented. Lina sighed, gazing into the endless slaughter and war.

“I know, but we have no choice! This truly is...the fall of Saillune...”

Zelgadis shot a piercing gaze to Lina, as Gourry gasped.

“C’mon we gotta find Amelia, and don’t get killed!”

“Yeah, like it’s that simple!” Gourry whined.

“JUST C’MON!”

Lina began summoning spell’s and releasing them at any Mazoku in sight, Gourry closely beside her, preparing to protect her at any coast’s. Zelgadis dodged and fired simultaneous spell’s through the massacre of Demon’s.

Amelia choked back from the stench of human remains covered the floor. She ran through the battle, searching for her father.

“Daddy, where are you!?” Amelia sobbed, feeling dizzy and overwhelmed, as the heated breeze wrestled her cape behind her.

“Raa Tilt!”

Amelia gasped hearing a familiar voice. She blinked around, seeing a rather large Mazoku radiate in blue flames, screaming in pain as his body disappeared, revealing Zelgadis before her. Amelia squealed with joy and reached out to embrace him. Zelgadis blinked to see Amelia, unharmed and safe. He felt himself smile with relief. He suddenly gasped, his eye’s grew wide as the clawed Mazoku appeared behind her.

“AMELIA! WATCH OUT!” Zelgadis shouted, Amelia quickly turned around, only to find herself being impaled by the demon’s clawed hand. She gasped, feeling his claws tear through her flesh. Her body jerked upward, blood spilling from her lip’s as she screamed in agony, never leaving Zelgadis’ eye’s. Zelgadis gritted his teeth and narrowed his eye’s.

“Bastard!” He screamed, Unleashing his fury on the Mazoku with a powerful Raa Tilt. Amelia’s body grew limp, as she slid from the claw of the Screaming Mazoku who dissolved before her. She fell to the ground, eye’s tightly shut, tear’s continuing to spill over her child like face.

Zelgadis quickly ran to her and cradled her broken body in his arm’s. He cringed feeling her blood soaked through his fawn colored tunic.

“Lina! LINA!” He cried. Holding Amelia to his chest protectively. Amelia gasped and choked blood from her lip’s.

“Hold on Amelia, Lina is coming...” Zelgadis said softly, running his hand across her cheek.

“By the god’s! Amelia, Zel!?” Lina shouted running to them, Gourry, stood beside Zel, looking terrified at Amelia. He held his arm, leaking with blood. Lina pushed Zelgadis Away and laid her on the floor. She began casting recovery. Amelia winced, groaning in pain.

“Hold on Amelia, hold on...”

“Miss....Miss. Lina?”

“Yeah, we’re all here...”

“Miss. Lina....Saillune...”

“Shhh...I know...”

“I’m scared, Lina...”

Zelgadis stood and swung Gourry’s lame arm around his neck, holding him up. As they both watched Amelia, and Lina’s slow progress of healing. Silvery streak’s of tear’s trickled down Amelia’s face, as she blinked, looking as if she was completely out of it.

“Don’t worry, we’re all here...Me...Zel, and Gourry.” Lina said softly, stroking Amelia’s hair from her face. Feeling tear’s sting her eye’s. Lina knew her magic was extremely low, and she may not be able to finish the spell. Fear slid it’s way through her petite body.

“L-lina...I can’t find Daddy...”

Lina winced as Amelia choked, and blood overflowed her mouth. Zelgadis looked away, and looked towards Gourry, who’s eye’s glistened with tear’s.

“Lina...I’m...I’m...afraid...it’s dark...I...I....I...” Amelia gasped, her body grew rigid, then frighteningly limp. She sighed softly. The light from Lina’s healing hand’s faded. Lina choked.

“Amelia? Amelia?! NO!”

Lina gathered Amelia’s still body, she nudged her several time’s.

“Amelia!? No, NO!”

Tear’s flowed from her Ruby eye’s, clouding her vision. Gourry gasped as he doubled over half in pain, half in grief. Zelgadis held him up, as he gritted his teeth and looked away.

“Oh my...Poor little imp, this isn’t well at all.”

Xelloss appeared before the mourning companions. He looked down at Amelia’s still body, letting his eye’s slide open to examine the surround’s. He smacked his lip’s devouring the delicious meal of pain, fear, and grief. He smirked as usual. Zelgadis clenched his fist, knowing the Mazoku was hiding something. He sighed as a single tear rolled down his chiseled face, hanging on his chin, and delicately dropping to the blood soaked ground.

“Stop playing innocent, you bastard!”

“Mooooi?” Xelloss responded with a giggle. He suddenly dropped the act and raised his staff, his voice was unusually deep and cold.

“Let’s cut the crap, I do believe I will be needing her.” The mazoku responded, as Amelia’s pale body faded from Lina and reappeared in Xelloss’ arm’s. Lina gasped, and turned her tear soaked eye’s. Zelgadis snarled and un sheathed his sword.

“So, I will be taking her off of your hand’s, you’ve been most useful, Ja!” Xelloss chuckled and faded from view, along with Amelia’s dead body.

“Xelloss!” Lina cried, slamming her fist into the ground. Zelgadis growled, sheathing his sword and blinking towards Lina. Gourry walked beside her, resting his palm on hr shoulder.

“What now Lina?”

“We have to get her back...Xelloss is going to resurrect her no doubt...”

“But, for what?” Zelgadis interrupted.

“I have no idea...right now, we have to save what’s left of Saillune.” Lina stood , brushing the tails of tear’s from her face.

“For Amelia!” Lina cried, as they rushed back into battle, for better or for worse...
